  1. We had a connecting room on our last cruise, not traveling with them, and they were smokers and loud talkers. We heard and smelt it all. One night, they left their balcony door open and we heard a high pitched whistle all night from under the connecting door.

By no means did this ruin our vacation but we will avoid the connecting door in the future.

    Cheers!

  2. Lively thread. I agree with the posts about cash and a thank you note. However, last cruise, I thought about how hard the crew works and on their feet. Our room steward and favorite waiter were both women in their 50's much like myself and I wished that I could give them some Dr Scholls Gel Inserts for their shoes. Couldn't find them in any of our ports.

Just a thought of something useful to go with a cash tip.

  3. ?..Depending on wind direction and ship's speed, it can also cause a bit of "wind tunnel" whistling in the passageway, which can annoy neighbors. But, again, its your cruise, do as you please...

We had the wind tunnel effect on our last cruise. Our neighbor left their balcony door open one night and we had a closed connecting door between us. The small gap under that door caused a high pitched whistle all night. Luckily, they only did it one night so I didn't need to address the issue.

As quoted above "do as you please".

    Cheers!

  4. Not to be sarcastic, but has any of the posters been on the Splendor lately? I was on it in early February, and there was NOT a Mongolian Wok station. All they had was pre-made Mongolian dishes as part of the buffet. If indeed it was added after that: I apologize.

Lol...thanks for the update...problem solved...as Rosanne Rosannanana would say..."never mind".

    Cheers!

  5. We cruised the Splendor last May and heading out again this June and would like to know how to enjoy the wok without the grueling wait (bad knees). I tried it once and was only 5th in line but the folks in front of me were getting trays full of bowls-worth and it took at least a half hour for my turn. From your experiences, is there a good time or a trick to lessen the wait for this yummy food?

    Cheers!

  6. I was wondering if you are getting "days sailed" towards your next status upgrade on your free cruise. I would turn gold this next time if you do!

Yes. However, the days don't appear online until after the cruise. I am 3 days from gold and the Customer Service Rep assured me that my card will be gold on my upcoming cruise. Congrats!

  7. This post sounds like a FOX News gloom and doom report. Why concern yourself with things you cannot control? IMHO cruises are still the best vacation value.

  8. I'm a big fan of the mid week $25 wash and fold for a bag of laundry. My wife folds everything flat, rolls it and slides it into the bag. The bag was overflowing but it all fits. Last cruise on NCL ($27.99), the piece count was 40 items including jeans and it came back in a heaping basket. On our last cruise on the Splendor, it came back in 3 bags :)

Our upcoming cruise is in June so we won't need to pack winter clothes but we are taking the train to NYC and hauling the suitcases up to the luggage rack has been a challenge in the past so we are packing light and may need to use the laundry room to tide us over. I hear that it takes quarters and that detergent is available for $1.

    Cheers!

My Son & I had 7221 fwd stbd On Empress...we were just aft of the bridge and could see into the right side of it...we also had weed drifting by a few times and also smelled it in the hallway on 7 a couple of times...talk about a party cruise---we surmised they are not cracking down as much in the past...we found the same on the NCL Gem last Jan....perhaps the USA's relaxed attitude from state to state has had an effect----most of theses ships sail from foreign bases where pot is looked at askance

so the staff is not so interested? who knows?

Cool, that's just around the corner from the front row of cabins that we will be in during our June cruise. Did you go out to the forward deck at the end of the hall? Our window will look onto it and I'm intrigued by it based on what I have read.

    Cheers!

  10. We are self-proclaimed balcony snobs who happily booked one of these inside, yet has an obstructed view window, rooms in June when lured by the VIFP free cabin offer. We have sailed the Splendor before and know she is a big ship. A room all the way forward means it's going to be a workout.

Has anyone stayed in one of these rooms and have any insight to share? I read that the window overlooks a little used deck and that fact intrigues me and I would love to hear more about it. Is it too windy to enjoy our morning coffee or evening cocktail out there? Is there seating? Lighting?

    Thank you for your consideration.

    Cheers!

  11. ?..They also have ironing rooms on Decks 2. 6. 7. 8....didn't use those either!!

Sounds like you know how to relax...way to go! Thanks for the info. We like taking the train to the city but struggle heaving the suitcases up to the luggage rack and have promised ourselves to go light this time around.

    Cheers!

  12. We got one and booked it quick. Notified by mail, via phone call from Carnival and found on our Carnival.com account under VIPF deals. Had to choose interior room from their list of cruises between now and end of June. We chose 8 day Splendor for $315 in tax and port fees total for 2 people. Will pay the gratuities later.

    Feeling Lucky.

  13. Sully, Thanks for asking the question.

Pam, Thanks for the answer. One more...did you take advantage of the mid week laundry special? Was it same day service and is it still $25 for as much as you can fit in the bag? We are trying to pack ultra light for our June cruise because we are taking the train to NYC.

    Cheers!

  14. Gee, those are terrific crafts!! All I ever made were ribbon roses, origami boxes and something else I've totally forgotten. LOL

Now that you mentioned origami, it was listed in the Dailies one day that we were either hung over or heading out on an excursion. The other one that I read about was napkin folding which I thought would be interesting.

  15. The craft projects are free, easy, and fun. Lovey, the cruise director staff member running it explained that crafts are designed for people to socialize. There were more adults than kids but everyone enjoyed. Some of the ladies asked for extra materials to bring home for grand kids but that is rude IMHO. It put Lovey in an uncomfortable situation.

Hope you try crafts next cruise.
