  1. Different classes of ships have different things. I can tell you with 100% certainty that the Glory's aft pools and hot tubs are adults only. That was my favorite hangout. It's so nice to be right by the bar and pizza :D

Good to know! Thanks for correcting me. We recently (in the last couple weeks) booked the cruise that I am on tomorrow and were torn between the Conquest and Glory. We ultimately decided on Conquest due to itinerary. I was excited to learn that Conquest still had the adults only pool, because that was our favorite hang out on our Liberty cruises. We've sailed other ships with aft pools (that were not adults only) and Serenity decks since then, so I guess I just started associating having an adults only Serenity deck with no adults only aft pool

  2. Have done Glory 3 times, most recently last month. Conquest, twice most recently in January. I would take Glory hands down. While they both have 2.0 upgrades, Conquest does not have Serenity which I LOVE. Also Glory has the new menus which a lot of people say is nothing but cutbacks, but I enjoyed it. It's a lot of the old stuff, some with different names, but it was prepared much better IMHO than on Conquest. There will be plenty that disagree, but that's how I feel. In fact, when I book another one hopefully for this fall, 99% sure it will be back on Glory again. One vote for Glory.

That's a good point about the Serenity deck. However, I LOVE that Conquest still has the adults only aft pool. I would take that over the Serenity.

  3. I find it interesting to see how many people have seen this occur, because in all my cruises, I never have. I've seen lots of pier runners, but never known of anyone to actually miss the ship. One time, I saw them pull the gangway, but have to put it back out for a runner before the ship was untied.

On one such occasion, while watching runners, we got to talking to a Carnival employee on an open deck. He had been working for Carnival for 10+ years (I forget the amount). He told me that he had never seen or heard of any guests getting left behind on all the ships he was on. He told me that they mainly just say they won't wait in order to scare people to be on time. Of course, I know that is not true because I've heard of many people missing the ship.

Say, for example, the gangway is pulled and the ship is untied and beginning to pull away but still just a few feet from the pier when a runner come up. Would they pull back and let a runner on then?

  4. Not for cruising, it doesn't. Just bring the marriage cert to document the name change, as I posted earlier.

The passport with the maiden name is still valid. If you need to fly home, just buy a ticket in the maiden name.

Yes it is more convenient to have all docs in one name... but you are incorrect that it HAS to be that way.

I'm telling you all right now that when this happened to me, I would not have been going on the cruise if I hadn't had my birth certificate with me. I had both my passport in my maiden name and my marriage license and it was not enough. They wanted another supporting document--regardless of regulations, that is what happened.

So for the OP, if you aren't going to change your passport (which I totally understand, it's expensive) make sure you bring everything you can, JUST IN CASE!

  5. So if I bring my marriage certificate with me I should be fine? (Maybe bring my birth certificate too just to be safe?) I always carry me DL so that's not an issue.

The passport is just over the one year mark or I could have changed it for free, so basicall it doesn't expire for 10 years.

We are driving so I don't have to worry about flights (unless for emergency reasons).

I've tried this before and been grateful I had my birth certificate, as well. I would not have been permitted boarding, with a mismatched married name on reservation and maiden name on passport-- EVEN WITH MY MARRIAGE LICENSE. Either change your passport or don't travel with it.

  6. Anytime dining is still available on the cruise I am taking in 3 weeks. I was going to switch until I read "Parties of 10 or more may need to be seated at seperate tables." I just happen to have a party of 10.

    Anyone had experience with this??

If so, what was the wait, and did you have any problem getting seated together?

I understand I cant hold it against them if they can not seat us together, just wondering what the odds are.

I once used anytime dining with a group of 10. The very first night of the 7 night cruise we were seated at 2 round tables that were right by each other. Every night thereafter, we were seated at square tables pushed to accommodate 10. They will accommodate the 10 of you, but I would go in with the expectation of waiting for your table, even up to 30 minutes.

  7. Hi all!

My family has decided to book an 8 day cruise over during the week of Christmas. I noticed on Carnival's site that the price really shoots up that week. I'm assuming it's because kids are out of school and some people like the idea of cruising on Christmas.

Do prices generally stay the same at peak times like this or should I wait for the prices to drop? Any info or tips would be SO appreciated! This is only the 2nd cruise we've been on so we're not really familiar with trends in prices yet.

Also, can anyone recommend a travel agent who gets good deals from the cruise lines? The one we used this time booked it for the exact same rate as I would have been able to book it directly through Carnival.

    Thanks!

In response to your last question: I always book with Carnival. I price cruises all the time and I've never found a better deal than booking with a Carnival PVP or booking myself through the website. This might not be true for everyone, but I feel comfortable saying that if you book through Carnival you aren't really going to find a lower price through somewhere else.

As far as price drops go, I agree with the person who said either book now and pay the current price (Early Saver would make you eligible for price drops) or wait to book. I wouldn't advise this for everyone, but lately, I've been booking some last minute cruises. I've booked cruises anywhere from 3 days before sailing and gotten some great deals (and some EXCEPTIONAL deals!). I would never advise you wait that long, because during Christmastime it very possible you wouldn't get to sail at all. Just remember the prices are very fluid. I've been following prices a lot lately for the last minute cruise that we are booked on for Sunday and I've noticed that if there is a significant number of cabins available at approximately 1 month before sailing, the prices drop drastically. For example, the cruise I booked was over $300 more per person 6 months before the sail date than what I booked it at 3 weeks before the sail date (and for an interior room, at that!). But it all has to do with supply and demand, so if you do decide to wait, just realize you may not get what you want. If there is something specific you are looking at, I would just book now at the Early saver rate.

  8. We are sailing on Elation in October. It will be DH, I and our DD (3) in an inside room. I specifically asked for a bed with a rollaway/trundle, not an upper because DD cannot sleep on the upper bed, and DH and cannot really do so either. Our last cruise, DD slept with us but this time i want her to have her own bed (I do not want to bring back any bad habits). How are the rooms set up and what is the best way to arrange the bed. DH and I would rather have a king bed, but if it will make it so we cannot even walk in the room, we can separate the beds. If they are separate, what is the lay out? Is it in a "T" shape or parallel beds?

What is the cabin number? Does it say it has the upper bunks or does the description say trundle? When we were on a sister ship to the Elation, we had a trundle for our 12 year old. We were in an inside cabin, as well, and the head of the king bed (2 twins pushed together) was on the long wall of the cabin next to the desk and the trundle was at the foot of the bed, wedged between the bed and the other long wall. You couldn't really walk around to the other side of the bed where the tv and fake window are, but there was still space by the desk. I don't think any other configuration would really give you more room.

  9. Unless the screening is something totally new I would ignore it. I sailed on conquest in an itinerary that included Belize as recently as May 4th. I was on board the ship eating lunch before 12:30 and everybody was off the boat by 11 a.m.

Thanks for the advice. The issue is that the previous cruise (the one debarking on our embarkation day) will have been to Belize. Our itinerary does not stop at Belize. I wonder if the cruise prior to yours had also gone to Belize. Regardless, I think I am going to keep my travel plans the same. If I have to wait at the port (hopefully, inside the terminal), so be it! Who cares, I'm going on a cruise!!! :D

    Thanks again.

  10. I don't know which night still have things on because sometimes these change, but I was on the conquest May 4th and did the chefs table and everything was delicious. It was a nine course meal accompanied by various wines and a tour of the galley. Even had table magic. See pictures:

Thank you so much for taking the time to attach photos and for the Chef's Table recommendation. Your photos look wonderful!

  11. We're on this too! But I don't know which days are formal and which is chefs table. We did Chef's table last year on the Dream and I would definitely recommend it. Worth the money and all the food was good. Great time! Can't wait for HMC. I haven't been.

If you like beaches, you will love HMC. It is my ultimate beach and I've been to many Caribbean beaches! I'm glad to find others going on the cruise, as well. Thanks for the Chef's Table recommendation!

  12. I have absolutely no information for you :) Just wanted to say I'm jealous. We aren't leaving on the Conquest until the end of August. Enjoy your cruise!!

Aww, what a nice reply! I hope you have a wonderful cruise and that August gets here before you know it!

We actually just booked last week, so we really have not had a long wait at all. We had planning on booking all along for our anniversary, but just wanted to wait to book a last minute deal and it really worked out for us. Thanks again!

  13. Don't know about Chef's Table. But when we went on the Conquest last december the formal night's were on the monday (1st sea day) and thursday (mahogany bay).

    Hope this info helps.

    :)

Thanks for the response, but on Monday we are in HMC, so I wonder if it will be the same. I guess I'll find out soon enough!

  14. When we were ready to board the Valor in 2012 it just returned from a western itinerary (including Belize) too and there was a 'slightly' delay in boarding due to the extra document screening: they started boarding at 4:30/5:00PM and we left Miami 1 hour late... Maybe don't rush to the port and take your time to get there that day.

WOW! That is certainly something that I would not want to happen! Did everyone have to wait in the terminal? How did they accommodate all of that?

  15. We've discovered that the 'stated reason' emails are truly informative. Not like the generic email for crowd control.

I thought I had heard this too, like with the Health Department inspection emails. I just never had a "stated reason" email before, and only the crowd control type. I had never even heard of this particular reason, as I've been to Belize and never had an issue. Thanks for the advice!

  16. What's the rush? I say get there at 3pm. If there is no delay, you will walk right on the ship and your cabin will be ready for you. Arrive in the delay and your cruise starts out on a frustrating note.

Thanks for the input, and I would take your advice regarding not rushing to the port, however, due to flying in the day of the cruise and previously arranged transfers to the ship, we really don't have an option but to get there around 11:30. Even if I changed my transfers to pick up later, that just means I'm sitting in the airport longer. Waiting at either sound like no fun, so I guess I'll just keep everything set the way it is.
