  1. For my upcoming NCL cruise in Nov, I've also had problems with my PCC not returning voice messages nor responding to my e-mail (and I booked the cruise with him over the phone).

If you phone the toll free number for booked guests, and explain that you have an urgent matter and can't reach your PCC, they will transfer your call to another PCC who can pull up your file and deal with whatever your issue is. (For this upcoming cruise I've dealt with 3 different PCCs with regards to an upgrade, an upsell, and some OBC.)

  2. Don't know about NCL but I had the same situation with HAL last Nov. This may give you an idea of what to expect from NCL.

I booked a cruise online via HAL's website. Paid double the fare to travel solo in a partially obstructed oceanview. About 2 months out, a friend decided to join me after I had made final payment. I phoned HAL and was allowed to add a passenger (it's a win situation for them as they get one more passenger to spend money on board, which we all know is where the profits are for the cruise industry). But I had to pay the current rate for the exact same cabin. It was $227 more expensive (plus taxes/port fees for one more passenger). Don't know what they would've done if the price had gone down; maybe an upgrade or on board credit?

  3. I always book the shortest lay-over that the airline's booking site will allow as a valid connection. I can't imagine choosing to wait an extra 2 hrs in an airport.

When I travel to/from the US I often have to connect at YYZ. The shortest lay-over I can get is 1.5 hrs (so I assume this is the minimum valid lay-over that airlines will allow). I've never had major delays clearing customs, retrieving checked baggage, and going through security to board my domestic flight.

And I must say, I'm not usually concerned about delays coming back from a cruise. :)

  4. I booked La Quinta Tampa Bay Airport for one night pre-cruise in Nov. They offer free shuttle from the airport to the hotel.

I was quoted $10pp for a shuttle to the cruise port the next morning. I will be traveling solo, so the $10 shuttle service is much cheaper than a taxi.

Their military rate also applies to serving and retired Canadian military (ID required). That rate is slightly better than AAA/CAA.

  5. I was on the Eurodam last week. A large cafe latte was $3.15 +15% service charge. I got a 25% Mariner discount so I paid a total of $2.83 including the service charge. It was as good as any cafe latte I've had anywhere in North-America. (and they have cinnamon sticks to put in your coffee, not powder)

  6. Just got off the Eurodam yesterday in Fort-Lauderdale.

We flew in on embarkation day and had booked the HAL transfer from the airport to the port. Knowing that we would have no opportunity to buy wine before embarkation, we packed a 1-litre bottle in our checked luggage.

Once on board, I confirmed with Security that we can buy wine at ports-of-call and bring it on board for in-room consumption. We bought a couple of bottles at the CVS at the port in San-Juan.
