  1. I received a gift card to use on my upcoming cruise. Do I bring the card on the ship or do I call NCL prior to boarding. Thanks

    Hi there,

we had 5 ($100 dollar) gift cards.. we used 4 of them. Bring the cards with you and boring them to the customer service desk anytime before the end of your cruse and the amount will be deducted. We enjoyed having them. They can be used for anything from massages to dining. No restrictions.

    Enjoy!

  2. We're currently booked in a deck 10 aft penthouse on a cruise to Bermuda and I've been watching prices, seeing them go down on the two forward suites with two balconies on deck 9. Anyone out there having experienced both suites? If it's only a few hundred dollars difference, would you do it? I think those suites get the 3 bottles of alcohol, so that would kind of cover the difference in price. Not a lot of OBC to be lost if I can get one of the forward suites, and I might pick up a similar amount booking a higher category suite. Any enablers out there?

    Oh, and Happy Father's Day!

    Hi there,

I just returned from the Dawn in an OS; if you can do it, then upgrade. The owners suites are the only ones that offer the 3 bottles of liquor. If you do choose to do this, pre-order your bottles; they will be in your room waiting. Oh, by the way, you will have all the mixers you choose. In addition, the OS category also comes with unlimited soda and water (including Pelligro, speaking water).

I have been in an aft suite and I loves these suites. With the OS two balconies, the front balcony may not be usable during sea days if it is windy; you would have to use the side balcony.

I loved the experience of the OS, but is does come with a price!

  3. LISA WE ARE LEAVING THE 20TH TILL 27TH AND SOMEONE TREATED US TO THE DINNER PACKAGE. We want to plan our dinners around the entertainment.Any way you can post the dailies it would be much apreciated.....regards gary

    Hi there,

Our group tried to make plans for our activities , come to find out that the dailies that someone posted two weeks before us we very different. For example, I saw that the martini tasting was on a Wednesday well this was much different, this was on Tuesday at four. Also, at here was supposed to be a rum tasting, this never occurred. So posting the dailies would not help. Apparently, they change weekly.

  4. Let's start with introductions. I am a 40 -something woman who travels extensively. I have been all over Europe, to even more far-flung places like China, India, Singapore, Japan and Australia and have been to the Bahamas and Jamaica, Antigua, St Lucia, Turks & Caicos, Puerto Rico in the Caribbean. I have done two NCL cruises (Europe on the Epic, Egypt/Turkey/Greece on the Jade), six 3 or 4 nt Disney cruises and two Princess Cruises (Mexico, Alaska). I tend to stick to AI resorts in the Caribbean and we are big fans of the Sandals/Beaches chain where we have 20+ trips under our belts. In all those travels, I had never been to Bermuda!

About 30 days before, I booked a studio cabin with the idea that I was going to surprise my parents who had booked a balcony cabin a few months earlier to celebrate my dad's 70th birthday. It was really hard to keep it a secret, I was so excited but I pulled it off.

    The Big Day Finally Arrives!

I live about 15 miles west of NYC so it would have been an easy train trip for me but I was bringing a large suitcase and a suitcase with some beach items like foldable chairs, towels, snorkel equipment, etc so my DH offered to drive me. We left our house at around 9:30am and he dropped me off at the pier right in front of the check-in doors on level 2 at around 10:15am. TIP: if dropping off at the Pier, come West across 55th street. You can go straight across there, into the ramp entrance to Pier 88. We came up the West Side Hwy and there was a bit of a wait to make the left turn at 55th St. The Pier itself wasn't really crowded at all, it was just that left turn where only 2-3 cars made each light.

The porters took my luggage right from the car and after a quick kiss goodbye to DH (who couldn't come because of work), I was walking into the terminal with just a large purse. I was one of the first there and walked right up to the xray machines and then right up to a check-in counter. Painless and done in less than 5 minutes.

They had a dining counter in the terminal so you could book dinner reservations and pay for the various beverage packages and receive your sticker. I booked our three specialty meals at this desk (glad we did- most times/days were completely gone by the time we got on the ship. More on that in the dining section of my review). And I decided to try the UBP just to see what it was like to have it. Paid for that there and got the sticker on my card.

I knew my parents weren't arriving until around 12pm so I decided to board the ship first and then surprise them by seeing them board and being there in the area where you get on. Or if that failed, I was going to put a note on their cabin door.

They started boarding around 11:15. This process wasn't all that smooth. Depending on where you were standing, it was hard to hear what was being called. I think they were trying to have even decks board in one area and odd another but I don't think that was working out very well. I had boarding group 5 and at around 11:30am, I just got on line and boarded. The line was a little long and it took about 10 minutes. I went right to O'Sheehans area to wait and got my first drink- a very good mojito. At around 12:15pm, I walked over to the gangway ramp that was entering by the theater and there they were! They saw me and they were so excited, they started to tear up! "Are you really coming with us?!?"

We then went to eat lunch at Savor.

    More soon...

First let me start off by saying, you are one lucky person and your parents are lucky to have you…. oh and I am jealous of all of the traveling…

I have tears in my eyes…..

  5. I am most interested in this type of query on CC... I am always fascinated by how many people are focussed on knowing who their butler/concierge will be for their particular suite. Staff move around from section of the ship to another, move to other ships, take holidays, get sick, quit their job. There are no guarantees as to who you will get.

Just my opinion, I think the best way to "connect" with the butler is to introduce yourself on the first day (and not have any pre-conceived ideas based on what others have said on CC) and let them know who YOU are and what your needs may be on this cruise. The job of the butler is to get to know you and your "quirks" so that they can best serve you. That's the beauty of having this level of suite - It isn't our job to "figure" them out - they are trained to pay attention to you. (At least that is the goal!). All you have to do is enjoy your cruise.

I hope you have a fabulous experience and happy sailing! :)

You are 100% right!!! thank you everyone for your input…

    I appreciate it…

  6. Good morning,

I have looked every where, there used to be a thread on here regarding this information.

Does anyone know the current price for cruise parking at the Black Falcon Pier?

I remember two years ago it was $14/day and at the end in order to cash out you could use a credit card or cash. But if you use cash, it can't be anything higher than a $20. We tried to used $50 and a $100 bill and the attendant had to make change, which took forever..

any insight into this would be great.

    thank you

    Lisa

  7. Good morning,

I am wondering if anyone who recently has sailed on the Dawn had this OS cabin…. I also ask to see who the butler is for this end of the suites. I like to know their quirks, their personality, ect… this way we can "connect" right away.

Any suggestions act would be great..

thank you. I sail this coming Friday. I have been on the Dawn before but not in this type of Suite.

  8. Just returned from my first cruise on NCL...had a wonderful time on the beautiful Pearl.

After several cruises on Carnival..I was looking forward to a change. I'm sure someone will post an extensive review...so I'll just say..that if the itinerary and price suit me..then I''ll definitely sail on NCL again.

What's even sweeter is...I paid less for the 10 day to Glacier Bay..than an 8 day on Carnival!icon10.gif

Looking into this for next year… have you written a review yet?

Looking for the type of room you had, did you fly and from where, the food, ect…

    thank you

  9. Just wondering where the helicopter landing area is on the Jewel. I just heard from someone currently on the Jewel that because of a medical emergency someone had to be airlifted off yesterday. Does anyone know where the helicopter lands?

    Hi,

My parents so I thought were on the Jewel and got nervous.. so I texted them, they are on the Pearl, but this is where the helicopter took the passenger, she does not know any details.

  10. Can anyone recently back from the Dawn sailing from Boston tell me how was the embarcation process this year? We've been twice and once was easy flow however, in 2012 it was bottleneck right from the start leaving your luggage with the porters and it was lined up right up the stairs and slow.

    Good Morning,

I have been on 8 NCL cruisers and I have to say that many people seem to arrive either right at 12 or at 2. I seem to get there around 1130 and never waited more than 15-20 minutes for the porter. Then it seems we wait another 20 mins just to get to register.

I think it is a "crap shoot" I have not waited in lines and then I have waited in lines. I would get there just before the embarkation boarding time.

Hope all goes well for you

  11. Hello fellow cruisers. mrsgreenacres was kind enough to scan in and email me the Freestyle Dailies from her trip on the Dawn to Bermuda at the beginning of the month.

I've gone ahead and combined them into pdfs - one for each day of the trip along with the "Welcome Aboard" documents they leave in your stateroom.

They are in a shared folder in googledocs - I hope this works, and if not, I'll repost.

Thanks again, mrsgreenacres!! We are so excited for our trip on the Dawn. We've never been to Bermuda nor have we been on the Dawn (but have sailed on her sister ship, the Gem).

Thank you so much for all who have contributed….. I have an idea to what is ahead..

  12. I think you will be fine. I've sailed from Boston to Bermuda 3 times in the past (going again in 3 weeks - June 6!) and one thing that always amazes me is how quickly into the cruise the Boston area weather becomes irrelevant. Hopefully you will sail into nice weather - the forecast for Bermuda Friday and for the next several days looks beautiful!!!

    Have a great trip!

    Hi Corgidog,

I am sailing on the same cruise… come and join our roll call, we have many activities planned.

As far as sailing on inclement weather, one never knows. I have been on this cruise 9 times and have encountered rough waters when the sun was out… it all depends on what is brewing in the Atlantic.

No matter, you will have fun…. guaranteed

  13. Good Morning,

I will be traveling to Bermuda in about 3 weeks on the Dawn. I am trying to get people together for a cabin crawl, but wanted to know if anyone has recent dallies for the Dawn. I am more interested in when the martini and rum tastings are.

    thank you

    Lisa

    Does anyone have any insight?

  14. Sorry to piggyback Kurukthemal, but I'm curious too This is my first time in a suite - SF on Dawn in July. Should I be expecting this letter too? Does it come snail mail or email? Would this be an appropriate time to request certain afternoon snacks from the butler? I am SOOOO excited. My first real vacation in years.

    Hi everyone,

I received my letter a few weeks ago (I sail June 6th). I am staying in an OS for the first time.. I order my bottles of liquor (with the OS), my pillow selection and even an extension cord for my DH cpap machine. They responded very quickly via email. The original email came "snail" mail with all of the information on it. I was very impressed.

  16. I just missed you! I was cruise staff on the Majesty, Boston to Bermuda run in 1999!! I see you started sailing there in 2000. :)

I loved Bermuda. :) Really want to go back as pax.

We have sailed since 2002 with our children and now we are sailing alone. My children were always in the kids clubs; we never even knew they were with us!!! That being said; we have sailed in all months including november. We loved the November cruise, Bermuda in the high 70s. no one around, the air was cool, but we enjoyed traveling through Bermuda, very quite.

Anyway, we have sailed only out of Boston so we have experienced the small ships. I remember when the Dawn first came to Boston, we thought she was a big ship (it is funny, she is consider a small ship now) times have changed.

Bermuda is a fun place to go!

  17. A random pic of my baby girl. Don't tell her I said that. "Mooommm, I am not a baby, I am 14! Quit saying that!" This was taken on our first sea day.

Thank you so much for your review; I loved every piece of it… I am going in 30 days and staying in a OS for the first time. Your pictures were great, thank you for taking the time; we all appreciate it.

Do you happen to have any of the dailies?

    Lisa

  18.

Deck 10 has the largest balconies by a long shoot. Our personal fav route is 10226 which is the corner suite but if you see any SF's on Deck 10 grab it ASAP. We book AFT suites and book as soon as the itineraries are released since there are only 4 SF's on Deck 10. Directly above you is the eelaxarion room for the spa and it 's very quiet.

Next 3 cruises all Deck 10 SF suites...

I myself stayed in this very same cabin. I would agree that all balcony rooms on deck 10 have larger balconies
