  1. Hello! Please help a panicked mom out! We have booked a cruise on Getaway leaving in under 2 weeks. We have sailed previously but only with RC. And this is our first time with a six year old.  I would be really grateful to receive any nuggets of information about the getaway you may have. What's in the balcony cabins ? Is there a retractable drying line in the shower? Is there complimentary soft serve ice cream and drinks for kids in the buffet? Many thanks, cath

  2. Thank you all for your replies. Whether parents decide to sterilise their baby equipment is completely an individual choice and I choose to follow the guidelines of our health service executive. Boiled water (at least 70C ) is required to make up the formula to kill any bacteria present.

Of course baby would be over 6 months when cruising and yes breast feeding would be most convenient but it's hardly possible to just decide to start breastfeeding then :)

  3. So we are considering cruising with our baby. Have only cruised RCI in the past. As they do not have kettles in staterooms ( interior or window) how do you make up formula ? Which cruise lines have kettles in all staterooms ?

  4. Hi Ladies

Thank you for your concern and well wishes. Unfortunately we had to make the decision to cancel our cruise in July, I have an ongoing illness which meant I really would not have been comfortable or been able to make the most of the cruise. Hopefully next Summer things will be better and we will be able to cruise again even if it has to be at a slower pace!

As you can imagine I was devastated when it became obvious that we would have to cancel and I have really been avoiding this website - but Stef I will get back to reading your review soon.

Hoping you are all well and happy,

Thanks again for the kind words,

    Catherine

  5. So glad you're back Cath! Those photos are fabulous!! Just what we've come to expect from you. We're going on the Splendour out of Venice Sept. 19th and Kotor is our 1st stop. After reading your review, we can't wait.

    Judi

oh Judi you lucky duck, you will love Kotor and just know that the sail away is worth missing dinner over! Remember to come back and write a review for us :)

  6. I think it safe to say that I have kept you in suspense for long enough (hey it’s only been about two months) so I won’t keep you waiting any longer. By the skin of our teeth we miraculously managed to manoeuvre our way out of the maze of Kotor old town and jumped into the last tender back to the ship (with about 60 seconds to spare, gulp). By the time we got back on board it was 8.45 so we went straight up to Windjammer. Dinner was finishing up so we grabbed a big plate of antipasti between us and sat out the back to watch the sail away from one of our new favourite places.

Missing dinner in the main dining room had never been more worth it. The town looked just spectacular lit up with hundreds of lights and then suddenly I think the most wonderful thing of the entire trip happened. Darkness fell almost instantly and then the moon just seemed to shoot up from behind the mountain in a matter of moments. Again, I’m sure my pictures won’t do this justice but here goes....

    Hello Mr Moon.

  7. :(:(:(sitting here crying about the violent deaths of the MSC cruise passengers in Tunis yesterday. No new posts today out of respect for the dead. Sending out good wishes to all those still being treated in the local hospitals and to all the family members and friends out there, who are suffering either a horrible loss or are still praying for injured or unaccounted for loved ones. :(:(:(

I have just found your new review today when I came on the boards to check for any update about this tragic tragic event. I don't think it matters whether we are loyal to one particular cruise line or not - today we are all one cruising family and our hearts are all with MSC. May they rest in peace.

  8. please excuse my ignorance but i have read through the threads but am slightly confused. i understand individual drink prices have increased dramatically but have drink packages increased in price also?

also can any one provide a list of 2015 wine prices with regards to what wines might be included in the select package?

and is it also true that you can order a glass of different varieties of house wines at the bars for under 8 dollars?

  9. my parents are booked on a cruise in June from southampton ,but looking at their itenary they are now wishing they had booked a different one. A month later. They have only paid a deposit up to now ( they are still over 90 days out) could they change cruise to another higher priced one and how much money would they lose. They are from uk so terms may be different to usa rules.

Were in a similar situation in the past ( we're in Ireland but I believe the T&C's are identical as the Uk). There is no option to change itinerary. They will have to cancel and re book and unfortunately when you cancel you loose the booking fee which is €330 per couple ( euro in Ireland). We availed of the recent promotion where booking deposit was just €60 each but if we were to cancel for any reason they would want the full €330 (€165 each).

It sucks really that you can't change your mind!

  10. Hey Cath,

:Dno worries.... I`m not offended in the least .... lol, we DID miss it afterall:D.

Better not listen to my advice toooo literally ... but thanks for the praise anyhow:rolleyes:.

But that`s not the reason I post today ... I just miss your writing and the pictures... please... we`re not done yet are we? A little more? I`m willing to wait... no problem ... the last wait was oh so worth it. Just please tell me it isn`t over yet, will ya?

    Stef

    Ah hello Stef,

Shouldn't you be busy packing - not long left for you now how exciting.

No we are definitely not done with this review, I seem to have bursts and starts and then of course long stops!

ANNNNDDDD Unfortunately you won't be hearing from me for another few days as we are going to ROME tomorrow ( happy dance).

Hey, maybe I will throw in some Rome pics to make up for the delay when I get back.

    Catherine :)

  11. Time was pressing on as we left the bar and continued to stroll along. It was now after 7p.m and I wanted to do a little more shopping. We didn't have much luck and all we could find was some nice pieces of local pottery. We bought some bowls for the kitchen and a candle holder for the bathroom. They were of course all little in size as if you remember we were very tight on luggage space

You will notice from the following pictures that the sun was now much lower in the sky and the streets almost empty. Everyone had disappeared it seemed.

I knew that this was St Nicholas' Church and that this meant we were still far from the main gate. It was now 8p.m so we had just 30 mins 'til all aboard - considering we had no idea how to find the main gate - this was a very sobering realization.

  12. Harry,

I have spent waaaay too long today reading your review to the detriment of lots of other things ( including continuing with my own review). I have no plans ( rather unfortunately ) to either sail this ship or itinerary and I am following along purely for the entertainment value. You are an absolute hoot and from your pictures it looks like you and your family had a really great time. I look forward to reading the rest of it later.
