  1. The thing about Amber Cove is that it is such a great area of the country, but a terrible port itself. I have spent lots of time in the DR and the Amber Coast is one of the prettiest sections. However, many Carnival Cruisers just get off their ship and go to the big pool, and completely miss the beautiful area surrounding them. Carnival tried to make another Mahogany Bay or Grand Turk, but without the beach strip, they really missed the ball. So, port wise, Amber Cove has been one of the least favorite physical ports. But in terms of activities, it's one of my favorites. I'm glad you ventured out and saw some of the beauty of the country!

I am helping my parents plan their day in Amber Cove. They are in their early 70's and quite active. What are your favorite activities in the area?

  2. If you like to drink the Bar Hop is fun. You get to see the East Side of the island which is beautiful. It is a very social group event with about 20 people. You'll have to gauge if its your type of thing. I went with a group of friends and loved it. My husband would hate it. http://cozumelbarhop.com/

Cooking with Josefina was one of our favorite excursions out of around 10 in Cozumel. You do much more than cook. The class takes place in her home, so you get a glimpse of the culture. She takes you on a great tour of the market where you buy your ingredients. I think she has a maximum of 8 or 10 people so it is very personal and authentic. The feast at the end is amazing, and served with freshly made margaritas!

Also, the Amazing Cozumel is a lot of fun and a little more active. There is one part where you snorkel, but only one of you has to do it, so you could do it. You will see parts of Cozumel that you would never see otherwise. We also really enjoyed lunch after the race at a local restaurant that we would have never found on our own. I highly recommend this one too. https://amazingcozumelrace.com/

  3. Is there plenty to do at Harvest Caye without booking an excursion? How much are the drinks at the pool? It the beach nice? If you brought your own snorkeling gear would there be a good place to snorkel? Do they have rafts to float on and do you have to rent them?

  4. We are booking a cruise with friends for April and trying to decide between Norwegian Dawn and RCCL Liberty of the Seas. We are very interested in the nightlife offerings. We enjoy that RCCL has a wide range of offerings like acoustic guitar and piano music plus live bands in several venues. It's been a while since we have sailed NCL, so I am wondering what type of live music we will find there at night. Price is about the same. The pros for NCL are that New Orleans is closer to home, and we like the extra stop in Costa Maya. Would love to hear from someone who has been on both ships.

  5. Definitely book with cavetubing.bz. Meeting them is very easy. They run a very professional operation. We have tubed with them twice and would definitely use them again. We much prefer the personal service offered to the ship's cattle call excursions. Better service for half the price-it's a no brainer!
