@sdsseattle currently on Serenade with John Blair.   He’s not my top choice of CD’s.  Gets the job done, but to me something is missing….

I have to second that John Blair is the worst CD Ever. Fake just as much with all the Botox on his forehead. My personal experience with him I was on Jewel of the seas California costal cruise. In my early 30s and a Diamond member. I was in line for the C&A tier party he was outside the lounge shaking every body’s hand when it was my turn he completely ignored me like I didn’t exist. It was completely rude and disrespectful. I am loyal to Royal but to be treated like that was so unprofessional.

  2. Wow, very mature

It’s victor mature. You don’t know how great it feels for being right. So many years you guys have been putting me down saying it was a dumb idea for a quantum class in Alaska. (If you don’t know what victor mature means. Listen to the Woody show on iheart media.

  3. Currently on Explorer of the seas. Wouldn't recommend this ship to Alaska. Too big. Too many people. Not enjoy viewing area. Pool deck way to cold to stay out. Radiance ship is way better with the indoor solarium and vast majority of windows facing outwards. Something's bigger isn't always better.

  4. If Royal really wants to stand out on the West coast they should bring Ovation from Australia for the summer season to sail alaska from San Francisco. North Star will be the selling point near the Golden Gate Bridge and any glaciers.

For all you folks that will say "it won't fit, it's too big". It's not big for Norwegian Bliss that will make alaska home.

  5. Alaska is about the views. Promenade style / inside focused newer ships seem like a poor fit to me. If there is more demand, it seems more appropriate to add another smaller ship with 360 outside views. I love the bigger ships, but I think keeping the ship size smaller in Alaska just makes more sense.

As far as The Mexican Riviera, that is a poor alternative to departures from gulf and east coast ports unless you are a drive in local. For a comparison, it used to be a popular 2 hour ride down to Laredo/ Nuevo Laredo from San Antonio where I live. We'd cross over the border for a day of shopping, dining, and entertainment. NOBODY I know ever does that anymore. EVER. It came to a grinding halt due to border issues and safety concerns. We stopped in Ensenada several years back for our token foreign port during a Princess Hawaii cruise and it was pretty much a waste of time unless you were looking to buy a Mexican Wrestler mask... Nuevo Laredo had much more to offer back in the day. Only reason to expand on the west coast is to offer something close for locals, and that demand has never proven adequate for RCI. West coast ports (excluding Alaska) are not attractive enough to me to get me to fly there since far better east/gulf coast cruise options are available.

Enough for now. Gotta go pack for my cruise tomorrow...

Alaska glaziers view from North Star. Now that's something I'll pay for.

  6. That's pretty much the meat and potatoes right there.

From what I remember, it wasn't just the violence in Mexico. The on-board spending from the West Coast departures was much lower then the rest of the fleet. It was primarily locals who didn't spend much onboard. Throw in the limitations of itineraries (just not that many places to go to in a weeks time), and it made it harder to make money there then elsewhere.

Now RCI is sending some of their newer ships to Asia (Quantum class, for example) while selling off some of the older, Vision class. It may be that they try a seasonal ship again sometime I guess.

Of course us Californian's didn't spend much onboard. Hell Bay Area family making 105k a year is now considered low income.
