  1. Hi Thom. I didn't reply before because I'm missing a piece of information critical to your choice - namely, how much a taxi would charge you for that kind of tour.

Several years ago, before I'd ever done a land vacation on St. John, a group of us rented jeeps on St. Thomas and took them to St. John for the day on the car barge. From a strictly $$ point of view this would save you vs renting a car on St. John in two ways - the rental fee would be less and round trip car barge fare is a little less than round trip ferry for four.

If you decide that this might be a viable option then I'll be glad (as I'm sure will others) to help you chart a course to get the most out of your time on St. John.

    Hi,

My husband and I will be going to the Islands on a cruise for seven days. One of the stops is in St Thomas, I would love more information on how to rent the jeep and take the barge over to St John for the day.

    Thank you

  2. According to what I've put together based on Priceline's information, you should avoid the Fajardo/Rio Grande/Humacao and Ponce/Guanica regions if you're bidding for a resort, Fajardo/Rio Grande/Humacao for 4-stars, and anything's fair game with 3.5-stars. Can't say that it's been all that successful for me, but I'm about to change my bidding tactics.

    Thanks for the info.

  3. Here's a breakdown of 3.5 stars on Priceline:

    Sheraton Old San Juan

    Embassy Suites

    Verdanza Hotel

These are all in the San Juan area, and are the only 3.5 stars on the island. I'm hoping to get the Embassy Suites, only after deciding that paying less is more important than being pampered at a resort. The Embassy is as resorty as we need, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for it!

Thanks for all the help and information. I am ready to start bidding.

  4. The Sheraton in San Juan is a 3.5 *, so that should be checked off under the star level tab on Priceline but is no guarantee that you will get the Sheraton. We're still looking for a resort for mid January but still have not placed my bid as yet. Good Luck!

Do you know what are the other possible options I may get in addition to the Sheraton.

  5. I just got Sheraton in old san juan for $70 :D two rooms two nights post cruise. 2/14/2010 and 2/15/2010. Now I just have to find a precruise hotel.:D

Can you tell me what criteria you put on priceline in order to get the Sheraton in Old San Juan. I am trying to get a post cruise stay for one night. I already booked two nights pre cruise on priceline at the Marriott Stellaris at $123 +taxes per night.
