There's no other free specialty dining on the first night..

Thank you! I meant for suites passengers but I forgot to mention it. We will be in a suite and would love to enjoy that perks

Also I docked on Sunday and they had everyone off the ship ahead of schedule if this helps to calm your nerves.

Very efficient in fact I don't even remember having to show anyone my passport🤔

We just walked through the arrival hall and out to the Taxis/Uber.

I have also been on many flights to the USA through Heathrow. One memorable time my connecting flight was delayed by more than hour and I only had an hour to get to my flight in terminal 5. I ran all the way and I made, I didn't have priority or anything 😅.

With travelling upper with Virgin I think you will have a smooth journey through the airport 😊✈️

Tank you and that is reassuring.  I hope our sailing's disembarkation will be also as smooth!

Yes, I am glad we will be traveling upper class with Virgin this time!

  3. I do not even know where to begin but I basically made a very dumb decision of booking a 1135am flight flying out of Heathrow on our disembarkation day (price was better than the later flight@130pm).  Our ship Anthem of the Seas will dock at 530am on Sunday 8/2.  We will be flying Virgin Atlantic Upper class and based on what I read, they have a curbside service that will help get you checked in and such quickly (not sure how much they could help with going through security).  I am thinking of booking a 7am private transfer with a reputable company from Southampton and using the self disembarkation.  I hope that should give us enough time.

I have always taken pride of being prepared and taking extra precautions with all our travel arrangements.  With all the previous cruises we were on, I had never booked a flight before 1pm whether domestic or international.  This was my lapse of judgement.  We have been very fortunate with all our previous cruises that we always got to the airport with more than plenty of time to spare.  Now the more I think about this, the more worried I am.  What if this is the one time that we will hit bad traffic because of a bad accident?  Or what if the ship does not get clearance til much later? 😫

Anyone with experience docking in Southampton and heading to Heathrow on a Sunday morning?  I might end up changing the flight to 130pm and pay the change fees (hubby won't be too happy but I guess it is much better than missing the flight!).  I would like to hear others' opinion before making my final decision.

  4. I am sorry but you will not manage to do all that is just 8 hours. Especially not Drottningholm.

I also don't think that you would be able to do both City Hall and Millesgården

The most appropriate order would be:

    Either:

    1. Wasa

    2. Royal Palace

    3. City Hall

    4. Östermalmshallen

    5. Back to the ship

    or

    1. Wasa

    2. Royal Palace

    3. Östermalmshallen

    4. Millesgården

    5. Back to the ship.

Thank you for the advice. We will be on the same cruise with Carole. I prefer option one and will skip Ostermalmshallen if it is too rushed. Can you please suggest which mode of transportation would be the best for all these places under suggestion#1? Thank you!

  5. You will have more than enough time to see all the sights listed. The Onofrio fountain will only be a couple of minutes and you can then buy the tickets for the walls opposite. You can do just the sea side of the walls and enjoy the sights and descend at Saint John where you will find the Maritime Museum. You must remember Dubrovnik is a small town, especially the old part and most of our sights are very close together. May I also suggest you do not miss the opportunity to visit the Rupe Museum, it is a history of our culture from the early days and a lovely place to end your limited time in Dubrovnik.

That is a great suggestion. I will add that into our itinerary. Thanks!

  6. We were there in early July so it was in the mid to upper 80's when we were there! Remember however that Dubrovnik is on the coast so the heat wasn't nearly as bad as Italy or Tunisia. Also, there are ample opportunities to cool off: getting drinks or fruit at the market, splashing water at the fountain, getting gelato on a side street, or taking a dip in the Adriatic at nearby Banje Beach! If the beach is of interest, have your son wear his swimsuit and bring sandals/water shoes and a towel!

And as Carol and I have already said, the city is very small, sights are all close together and easily walkable. Enjoy!

    Thank you!

  7. If your 8 yo son has half the energy of mine, you will easily be able to do all this. In fact, we walked the wall in a little over an hour, saw most of the sights in town, had a long lunch, and then spent two hours at Banje Beach.

Yes, he is very energetic except that if it gets too hot, it wears him down quickly. It looks like some of these sights are pretty close to each other?

    Where did you have lunch?

  8. I have been doing research on what to do at Dubrovnik when we are there next June. Our DS will be 8 yo by then. We are definitely going to walk the wall but are not planning to finish the whole walk if it gets too hot. We are scheduled to be in port from 10am-6pm. The following are the few sights that we plan to visit.

    1) Rector's Palace

    2) Big Onofrio's Fountain

    3) Church of St Blaise & the Cathedral

    4) Franciscan Church & Monastery

We would like to have lunch at Orhan restaurant and possibly go to Buza Cafe for a drink if time allows. Given we have a young one in tow, do you think we are too ambitious? Thanks.

  9. I am sure people have asked this questions more than once. I tried searching but did not seem to find the answer I needed. We are planning to stay at the Acta Atrium Palace hotel pre-cruise which is pretty close to Las Ramblas. We will definitely take a taxi from there to the cruise terminal. There will be 3 of us with three 29" suitcases. I like to know approximately how much it will cost us? I assume 25-30 Euros should do it?

In addition to that, I think coming from airport to the hotel would cost us about 30-35 Euros?

    Thank you in advance!!

  10. :(We did the Murano glass factory "tour" two years ago. What a joke. It's a scam to get you in their showroom. You see about two minutes of "demonstration", then the tour consists of the showroom filled with the thousands of dollar pieces. I bought a picture frame, which was no bargain, and they treated me like scum ! I shopped their "bargain basement", then they dump you on the street, and you get back to your hotel on your own, with no assistance from your "tour guide". It was a huge rip off, not just my opinion but out friends' as well. But if you want to see Murano, go.

Wow what a bad experience!! Thanks for sharing and sorry to hear about this. So you were touring with a small group?

  11. Hi all,

We are interested in going to a glass making factory in Murano but not sure if it is worth the visit. We had seen one glass making factory in Japan and thought it was cute and interesting. For those of you have done this, how was it for you? Did you end up buying some of the products? Thanks!
