  1. Elevator Roulette. Not in the Piazza per se but by the Panorama elevators. It's dumb. I know. But I think it's really funny.

Please expound. What is Elevator Roulette? Even the name is fascinating.

  2. I will post a few when I post my summary. I just wanted to see how to to it.

I actually got up at 4:00 to get the sun rising over Denali, it was worth it.

I would say so. The lighting in that shot is magnificent.

  3. Thank you all for confirming that asking to get a better pricing is okay. Sorry for the original confusing post, as my head was spinning with the prices among the initial saving, updated pricing, and the complexity that comes with the latest Princess sale.

So I got in touch with my TA. They talked to Princess and now have gotten me just an incredible overall saving. My agent definitely is a keeper. Thanks again to you all as well.

We all know that CC does not allow endorsements of TA's, and I'm not asking for one.

Could you share how you found your TA? So far I only have a handful of darts and the yellow pages.

  4. While some have had good experience's with PVP's the ones (3) that we have had contact us have only lasted for a few weeks each before they quit of went to other departments.

Our upcoming Cruisetour is our first experience with Princess or their CVPs. We went the route of using a CVP because we'd had a good experience with a similar role at a different line. Our experience at Princess has been mixed.

Our first CVP was on the earliest shift, Pacific time, and was difficult for us to reach from Eastern time after work. We then switched to a different CVP who would be available to us in the evening. A few weeks later she changed shifts and became less available. Not that she was easily reachable any time of the day. Every phone call that we made to her went to voicemail, and was not answered for several hours. Emails were dependable, but not exactly prompt. I also got the impression that she was not very knowledgeable.

Our previous experience with the other line was just the opposite. Their representative was always (during his working hours) available by phone or email and was very knowledgeable.

  5. Sailing on a Alaskan cruise May 13 via the Pacific Princess from Vancouver. Just reading some of the fine print and I'm a bit confused with the information on "For Free: T&C's - Free Specialty Dining and Reduced Deposit" It basically states that Princess will make on your behave a reservation for a complimentary dinner for 2 at a specialty restaurant. One offer per stateroom. That I understand. The last line of the information states " Reduced deposit of $100.00 per person applies to all passengers in the stateroom" That I do not understand. Actually, I do understand. They want $100.00 per person in the stateroom. What I don't understand is; for what is this deposit??

We have the same deal. That is a deposit of only $100 per person when you book, rather than the normal higher deposit of $??? My first time on Princess so I don't know what the normal deposit is, except that it is more.

  6. My brain will not interpret those "from the side" pocket maps and wall maps. I got the Shipmate app (it works on computers, Android phones/tablets, and iphones/tablets). It gives and "overhead" view of each level of the ship, so you can see exactly where your cabin is located, restaurants, shops, restrooms, etc.

It also has your itinerary, excursion lists, a ship locator, the deck cams and more. And it is FREE.

    Excellent app, get it!!

How well does this app work when internet is not available?

  7. There's a link on the top right called "Documents". Once you click that, you can see, download and print all documents (boarding passes, luggage tags, travel summaryand more). The "travel summary" itemizes everything: booking info, celebrations, excursions, OBC's, travel/air, etc.

Your access to the Cruise Personalizer is otherwise frozen 5 days out from sailing. DO NOT CALL Princess. This is normal.

Thanks. I'm guessing then that it is not available until 75 days before the cruise. ;)

Also, I just found out that means 75 days before the cruise, not 75 days before the land portion of a cruisetour. :(

  8. Your Personalizer is "frozen" five days from sailing. No changes or modifications online. You can call Princess but you should see a link to a PDF file, "Travel Summary." Download that and if you want, print it out. It'll have everything to do with your booking, including any excursion reservations.

Where would one find that link, and when should it be available?

  9. Hi Isobel,

    Loved Princess' land tour!

I used a tote bag ,with a zipper, close to the size of the Eagle Creek day pack.

The bus was a glass observation tour bus, so no overhead storage. Your bag had to fit under the seat or stay in your lap.

The train is also an observation car. There was no under the seat storage, so the bag is at your feet for the ride. On our observation car we sat at a table of four with a bench seat for two on each side. Not too much room under the table. That is when we realized why a size limit was given. Have fun!!

Has anyone had any luck (good or bad) with using a small/medium backpack and just not jamming it full? An example would be http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/79241?feat=1098-GN2&page=l-l-bean-continental-rucksack which just happens to be what I own and I'm hoping to take to Alaska in June.

  10. For $39/pp, you board the ship for the day until Muster. It includes lunch in the dining room with wine or any other beverage, a photo, and a $39 credit on your Captain's Circle account to be used for a future booking made within a few months. I never remember how long you have to book as my TA has been able to get the $39 applied to a booking already made for the three BVE's I've taken. If you live near a port where the BVE is done, it's a fun few hours spent on the ship. I did it on the Sapphire in San Pedro a couple of weeks ago. You need to call Princess or check with your TA on ports and availability. You are the first to board the ship, before the passengers.

Big help. Thank you. We won't be able to do it this year as we are on a land-first Alaska Cruise tour.

  11. Coastals (FKA "Repositioning" cruises) are one way.

We did a 1-day as well between Seattle and Vancouver; that counted as a cruise...Of course, we've also done our fair share of 10 and 15-day cruises as well.

We did make Elite by # of cruises, not days although it only sped up the process by 2 cruises. After our upcoming trip to Hawaii, we'll have it by both days and cruises.

Thanks. That helps. I was also wondering if the Princess Charge Card was what they were talking about.

  12. DW and I will be celebrating our 30th on the land part of our Cruisetour this June. Is there anything Princes will do for us there? How do I tell them about it? I can't use the "Special Occasions" section of the Personalizer for events on land since only the Cruise part is in the date drop-down.

  13. The card has 15 punches. If you want extra shots, it uses more than one punch, but the basic latte, mocha, etc is just one punch, for either the small or large size (or your own mug)

Any number of people can share the card to purchase drinks. It's not politically correct to share for the free brewed coffee but some people do.

Sorry, I never look at the prices for the coffee, so that part I can't answer. I think the cheapest is around $2.75 but I always order a larger size.

So, does this mean that plain coffee is not free unless one has a card?

  14. I need a little help from Cruise Critic veterans.

Is there an appropriate place on these boards for discussion of the land portion of a Princess Cruisetour? Is it also possible to have a roll call page for a specific tour?

  15. The policy does not change based on iteniary.

I appreciate that the policy does not change and I expected nothing else. However, my question concerned the reality.

In other words, what do people really do and how does the crew react? How strictly is it implemented?

My expectation is that people that come from a week of trekking around the interior of Alaska and had to pack for that, probably don't have much room in their 50 pounds of airline approved luggage for a tux or even a pair of formal shoes for that matter.

I've read and understand the policy. But, policy and the implementation there of do not always match. Have you ever exceeded a speed limit and not gotten a ticket?

I want to fit in, but I have been on a cruise where the guys in tuxes were a very small minority. On that cruise, about the same number of guys were tieless as the number in tuxes. I think that tieless was definitely NOT in the spirit of a formal night.

This is all about not being out of place.
