Glad to help. I would take a jacket it could get a bit cool. Also if you have any other questions let know and I will be glad to answer to the best of my ability. My favorite port to cruise out of is NOLA and was on the Triumph about 6 months ago.
January in NOLA can range from below freezing to 80+ degrees. Check the weather before you leave so you know what to pack. Even going down the river, there is a swift breeze so keep that in mind.

While I most assuredly think RammerJammer is being overly dramatic and unreasonable, I have to ask: where you on the ship? If not, do you have information not available to the general public direct from Carnival
If not, you don't know what happened. If it was an act of violence, you don't know who was injured. You don't know who committed the apparent crime. You don't know where on the ship the act occurred.
Given all those things that you don't know...how do you know they were never in danger?
I get that you like Carnival...but really...
I have worked in the industry for many years. I never said I knew what happened, just what the protocol normally is depending on the situation. Since people were reported taken off in handcuffs by that point any threat was over.
And believe it or not, I am not that big of a fan of Carnival.

When nefarious things happen on a cruise ship, the company takes great pains in keeping the other passengers in the dark. If someone was stabbed, it is possible that it was a crew member. If that is the case, the person(s) never would have entered the passenger areas (save the medical area) thus there would be no reason to restrict passenger movement. If it were a passenger, it would have likely taken place in the cabin where security likely would have been posted or the room locked until an investigation was done. The offenders would have been placed in the ships brig with security posted. You weren't in any danger after the fact so again, there was no reason to restrict movement in those cases.

What does it mean if the schedule for the week of your cruise says it is one person's last week as CD and another person's first week (they overlap by that week)? Who does the CD duty for that week?
In the past, they usually overlapped by a week to make a smooth transition.

I didn't see the other posts on the subject either. Other than someone having their life hand in the balance that would almost be my dream cruise, all sea days. I do hope the affected passenger recovers.

I would take a cab. I drive that area five days a week and there is a small stretch that I wouldn't feel safe walking.

I thought they tasted better up at blue iquanas did you try them there?
I haven't been on a ship that had Blue Iguanas yet. I am looking forward to trying them and comparing.

I loved the huevos rancheros. It is the thing I am most looking forward to when I cruise in January. The tomato soup was pretty fantastic also.

I make sure I bring a watch. I don't normally wear one but I don't bring my phone out of the safe once we sail.

My kids didn't really like to hang out at the kids club either. We sailed on the Elation with a 10, 14, and 16 year old. At night, the kids enjoyed night time swimming. The pools only had a few families and there was still bar service. They also liked to go to the shows in the main lounge. One night, they stayed in the cabin to order room service and watch the incabin movie together and we went to the adult comedy show. If they wanted to do something together, we would have but they were excited because it was a movie they were dying to see. (cant remember what it was). All in all, the kids found things to do and they had a great time. It was their first cruise though. Make sure to give them a heads up before you go so they have their expectations in the right place. I love the Fantasy class ships myself.

My absolute favorite is huevos rancheros at seaday brunch
MDR Dinner: I love the pumpkin soup, spring rolls, and the flat iron steak was delicious. I was surprised.

It takes closer to 8 hours to get to the mouth of the river. It happens close to midnight on a 4:00 departure. The ships move at a pretty decent clip. There is 68 miles between the Port of New Orleans and Pilotown. Not sure if that is a the crow flies or accounts for all the bends in the river.

For me, bigger isn't better. Give me a smaller ship any day. I personally thought the Holiday, Jubilee, and Celebration were the perfect size. When the Fantasy class first came out, they were almost too big. I am about to sail on the Triumph but only because of where it ports.

HAL... well, I was considering them but then looked at a youtube video ship tour and decided I'm not ready yet. The ship is gorgeous. My aunt loved her cruise but she is in bed by 9pm and that's pushing it. She is also a very quiet, read a book on deck all day type person. I still want to try them for an Alaska cruise on day but I will wait until my gray hair finishes coming in.

So the ice is just in your room? I have to ask for it.
That has been my experience. I may have just been lucky. I have only been on two cruise and just booked my third. I say that to say I don't have the same number of cruises under my belt as some people do. I am not opposed to asking if I need to, just haven't had to yet.

I like the leggings/tunic look on other people. If you are comfortable then wear it. If you are not, don't. I say that because when people look uncomfortable it shows.

I have tended towards the starboard side. No rhyme or reason. The only time I am interested in the view is at sea and it doesn't matter which side I'm on for that. Sometimes we see the port, sometimes not. I am happy either way. Pet seems more popular as there are usually more starboard side rooms available when I book. I suspect that has more to do with odd vs. even numbers though.

It has never occurred to me ask for anything before we set sail. On my previous cruises they have kept the ice full, made the beds, left towel animals. I do the tip when I book and I do bring an extra $20 to tip at the end if I like the service. Haven't had a cruise where I didn't give the extra $20 on the last day.

On the Destiny (and I assume the other like ships) the doors on the bow enter right into some of the crew sleeping quarters.

Yes. Mainly because I was a camp counselor 20+ years ago so I know just how appreciated the tips were. They are never expected though. It is a nice gesture if you can but it is okay if you can't.

He was fine. No complaints here.

My kids are 10, 14, and 16. My 16 year old went to a dance party but mostly avoided going to anything. He did have a good time but he slept though most of the cruise. We didn't find out until after we got off that he had been infected with a tick born illness while camping out of state two weeks earlier.
I just thought he was going through a growth spurt because he was eating or sleeping. Glad I didn't know though or I would have freaked out.
The 14 year old enjoyed dodge ball. He avoided the dance parties and opted to attend after those were over. I went by a few times and the kids that went were having fun. He really liked that the activities ran late into the night. He seemed to make a couple good friends from the cruise.
The 10 year old liked video game time and goofy balloon games the best. He also really enjoyed bingo. He stayed for Night Owls once, his request but I think he stayed just over an hour because we picked him up to bring him to the deck party.
Hope this helps a little.
who would sacrifice their money right now.

We rebooked our cancelled cruise for September. If that one gets cancelled, I will request a refund and wait it out before we try booking again. I am okay with either scenario playing out. I’m glad there are people willing to go first. After a couple weeks of sailings (if they do, indeed sail in August) we should have a general idea of how it is going. I am okay with losing a few hundred dollars to back out if I don’t like what I am seeing.
