I can only comment on the 8 - 12 group and I can say my kids love it. We have been on several different lines and by far HAL is their favorite. They both prefer the smaller number of other kids on board and think they get to do more.

My first HAL cruise was in 2011 on the Eurodam

I can't speak for solo cruising. However, DH and I are in the 30 - 40 age group and we LOVE HAL. We have sailed PCL, RCCL, CCL and HAL before. Our go to is always HAL. Although we are usually on the younger end on most cruises, we still have a wonderful time and find plenty of things to do. From what it sounds like I believe you will enjoy your HAL cruise.

I got a new picture on this last cruise as they said I look younger now. DH got a new picture as well. However, both my parents kept their last picture and did not have a new one taken.

If the ship TV picks up sportsnet, your DH can watch the men's qualifiers for World Cup 2018. Womens is also being carried on CTV in Canada. So maybe if you are on an Alaska cruise?
We are on an Alaskan cruise. He's watching all the women's games so far and doesn't want to miss any.

My DH loves watching soccer and has been watching the world cup. Does anyone know if they are showing the World Cup in the cabins or in public areas on HAL?
Thanks!

I'm really enjoying the review as we will be on the Noordam later in the season. The chocolate bombs look wonderful!
I had one question about the power strip. Is it common to have these taken away when leaving from Vancouver? Is it okay if it's surge protected power strip or are all power strips commonly taken?
Thanks so much! I look forward to the rest of the review.

I have to say HAL is my children's favorite line. We have been on RCI, Princess and Carnival as well and if given the option they will both pick HAL every time. DS loves to spend his time in kids club from the moment it opens till he must leave. DD picks and chooses when she wants to go.
I really think each family is different on which line that they prefer. Which is why each line is a little different from the rest.
My personal opinion is to at least try HAL once. You never know your kids could end up loving it.

Thank you so much! Since I booked with a TA that explains why I can't find it. I'll contact my TA and see if I can get a copy.
Thanks again!

I recently booked a cruise on HAL and was given OBC, but cannot find it under my account or my reservation or my booking. Can someone advise where or how you can view it on the HAL website?
Thanks!

I would love to have more options in the summer and LOVE to have the option of a HAL ship in the Caribbean in the summer.
I also live in the south and very used to the heat. For me it is cooler on many of the islands than it is at home.

Does anyone have any information on sailing Princess and being Gluten Free? I know you can update your cruise personalizer and my understanding this will update the Matire 'D but other than that. How do you go about finding GF food when your not eating in the main dining room? Do they have gluten free pizza? What about desserts?
Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciate.
Thanks!
Gluten Free and Room Service
in Holland America Line
Posted
DD and I are both Gluten Free. I've contacted HAL and sent in my GF form for both of us. However, I wanted to find out how room service works. I'm especially interested in the morning breakfast. Previously we just check the little boxes for what we want hang the door hanger and it appears the next morning.
For breakfast, how do we identify what items we need to be gluten free such as waffles or muffins?
Anything special we need to do when order room service for other meals to identify items we need to be gluten free?
As a note DH does not need GF and can eat anything.
Thanks!!!
