  1. Thanks all - We are vaccinated (triple) and both had COVID in January and have proctored PCR tests from then.

You are correct, the only thing the LoR gets us out of is the pre-boarding test.   But the letter is free and test is not 🙂

Having said that - we have antigen tests booked b/c the LoR is so new that I would be scared we did something wrong.

I will keep you posted - we board this weekend.  I am going to try with the LoR first, if there are any issues, I will have my antigen as well.

I was just curious if anybody had done it yet.

  2. With the recent policy change, my husband and I are thinking of travelling with our previous positive PCR test and a letter of recovery from our Dr instead of getting a test in advance (we are from Canada).   We are driving down so we don't need an antigen to cross the border either.

Is anybody else planning to use a letter of recovery or has anybody heard of anybody else doing it?  It just started this past weekend.....

    thx!

Just bear in mind that the following information must have been included in your positive molecular test result. If not, you may be out of luck using previous COVID as a means of bypassing another test.

    Providing proof of your result

When you arrive at the border, you must present an accepted negative molecular test result (paper or electronic proof) or proof of a previous positive molecular test result taken between 15 and 180 days (starting January 15, 2022, between 11 and 180 days ago) that includes:

    • traveller name and date of birth
    • name and civic address of the laboratory/clinic/facility that administered the test
    • the date on which the test was taken
    • the type of test taken
    • the test result

Luckily both of our tests have all this info 🙂

Where would be the best place to get a PCR test in AB if you recently tested positive with an antigen test?

Do you need to wait 10 days after a positive RAT before getting a travel PCR test?

I was able to get one through public health and my husband paid for his PCR test at a private clinic.  He waited 14 days after his positive RAT and was symptom free.

  5. Hi - some of you might remember I had to cancel my Jan 29 sailing because my husband and I tested positive.   We are planning on cruising again in March and will take an Antigen test from Shoppers in order to get on the boat but I am curious about coming home.  We both have positive PCR test results - do we need to test to come home?  Or is that sufficient?

    thanks in advance

We booked with Air Canada Vacations. Spent 5+ hours on hold. We were able to cancel our cruise for tomorrow 😥 and rebook for end of April. Once talking to an agent, it took over an hour to cancel and rebook everything. Didn't lose money or pay for an added fees.

I had the exact same situation.   But I opted for a full refund and will book the trip on my own next time. I was not impressed with ACV.

Did any of you who canceled your cruises rebook on a different cruise? Wondering how long it actually takes them to reinstate your cruise credit so you can use it for another cruise.

I didn’t get a FCC. I had a full refund.  We tested positive 8 days before the cruise 🙁

I don’t expect I will actually receive the refund for a couple of months….

Curious if your free PCR test has the information on it to use for re-entry back into Canada without having to test.

The PCR test must have the lab name and address that performed the test,

the type of test performed, your name, DOB and the results.

DH and I just tested positive this week and paid to have this PCR test done as the free one I got in December only emailed us the results.

Yes it has all the info needed for future travel.   It also had to have all that information in order for me to get the full refund from Royal.

I wonder if Monty Python is a close relative or if you've burst forth with a rousing rendition of 'Always look on the bright side of life'?

    You'll sail again,

lol - I'm not going to lie.  I'm super sad - especially when I see all the posts on the sailing FB group.... I don't have the heart to leave the group......

But I'm choosing to be positive - no point in being angry about something I can't control.  Like I said - hopefully in March 🙂

Were you able to get a PCR test?

Others have mentioned that is a big plus to getting Covid - less hassle when you finally do get back to cruising.

I was able to get a PCR test - it was the only way I could get a refund.  I was concerned that I would have to pay for one b/c of the testing restrictions - but public health gave me one - no hassles.  I was literally the only person in the testing centre - which is a giant arena.

  11. My husband and I have both tested positive so had to cancel our cruise.  We were supposed to leave next week for Miami and sail on Symphony on the 29th.   We are so disappointed but on the brightside - we tested positive before we got on the ship.  Also - after a 5 hour hold (!) with Air Canada Vacations,  and we received a 100% refund (air/cruise/pre-hotel).

We will try again in March!  Stay safe and healthy everyone 🙂

  12. Hi - Looks like we will be cancelling our Jan 29th cruise given hubby and I have both tested positive for COVID.  My question now is whether we are eligible for a refund or must take a FCC?  The policy says 'tested positive or exhibits COVID symptoms 14 days before'.  Does anybody have any experience trying to get a refund after testing positive?

    thx

I am not sure what cruise line you will be on, but we purchased RT-Lamp tests for $149 CAD from Switch when RCL announced they were no longer providing PCR tests for international cruisers after 1/5/22 and they were not providing info on costs etc for the in terminal testing.  RCL has since stated they will cover cost for cruisers through the end of January so we won’t need the RT-Lamp test for these cruises (we are on Oasis 1/2/22 then have a B2B on Odyssey 1/9/22 & 1/15/22) so we are going to save the RT Lamp ones for our next cruise.  The ones we got do not expire until July.  RCL has now said in terminal PCR tests will be $210 USD so we are going to concur using switch as long as their price stays lower

Hi. Thanks for posting your experience. We are going on an RCL cruise Jan 29 and I will purchase the RT-lamp for our return so we can test our last night on board.   I am a little concerned that once we disembark and test at the pier that we won’t be offered any assistance from RCL.  Maybe I’m overly paranoid 🙃
