  1. Hi:

A fellow cruiser posted an article that there was a call for a national transit strike for July 24th and 26th.  This article is from June 26th. http://www.ansa.it/english/news/general_news/2019/06/26/national-transport-strike-july-24-and-26_ad32334d-5d78-4d91-9078-f74f8c9ade5c.html

I tried to do some research, and according to www.cgsse.it the latest scheduled strike is on July 16-18.

Anyone can confirm on this, and also if the Campania Express is affected in case of a transportation strike.

    Thanks

To the best of my knowledge, she's still in Barcelona.  She went out on a test run last night, did a couple of loops and returned to port.  I heard she got up to 23 knots...but I haven't confirmed that.

According to a couple of tracking sites, she went out and reached close to 23 knots (posts 222 and 223).  Most important, when docking the Pearl attempted a difficult maneuver to dock next to one of the Disney cruises, which seems to confirm that everything went ok.

Also one of the entertainers onboard posted in FB that last night they threw a party for the crew, so everything has a positive vibe so far.

Let's hope for no setbacks !!!

The Pearl is not in dry dock, it is still in a standard berth in the Port of Barcelona. NCL have only said she has had propulsion problems.  There is a great deal of the propulsion system inside the hull, not just in the pods, so it is very possible the fault is there, not outside underwater. I would doubt if NCL would just park her there doing nothing, so inside work is highly probable.  Also we have not yet heard from anyone getting the deaded emails if the cruises on 18 or 28 July will also be affected,  so let's hope not.

I have every sympathy for anyone who has lost their holiday, but I cannot see what part of 100% refund of the cost of the cruise would not cover "out-of-pocket expenses". It could well cover a 10 day holiday round Europe for example, so that you would get a great holiday and use the flights you already booked home from Rome on the 18th.

I wonder who would buy holiday travel insurance from anyone that doesn't cover you if the holiday breaks down? - looks like someone might have done.  Not reading the small print when you buy something is rarely successful in legal cases, so I seriously doubt that NCL legals are too concerned at this stage.  Life is too short to hold grudges, so better to look on the bright side - you are still alive and starting your holiday in one of the most beatiful and interesting cities in the world, so better to make the most of the new adventure and roll with it.

So true that the Pearl never went into dry dock.  I'm on the 18th sailing and keeping fingers crossed.  As of now, and according to one of the cruise tracking sites, the Pearl is sailing and testing the engine, which is something we were told yesterday in our roll call, that it would happen late last night or today.  I hope the issue has been resolved.

Yeah, I had that smell as well in addition to a filthy room. I walked into it first day with a large brown wet stain on the carpet that the steward attempted to put the stool over to hide, mirrors had hand prints on it all over, sheets were stained in 3 places, couch was stained. Had to deal with them replacing a square of carpet 3 days into the trip as well as re-cleaning everything before we embarked. They never dealt with the couch. Shower door fell off the track. And that was all just the tip of the iceberg with the trip.

Do you remember your cabin # ?

Norwegian Jade will dock in Naples on July 26th, from 8:00 to 17:00 (actually 9 hours).  Given that I have one more hour than originally thought, maybe the trip up Vesuvio looks like a winner.

We were in Naples once, and walked the city and did the Blue Grotto and trip to Capri, that's the reason we are looking to do something different.

    Thanks for your input !!!

    I meant Norwegian Pearl

If you were to try this by public transit the most efficient routing would be Trenitalia from Naples to Salerno (40 minutes, 4,70 euro) followed by a short walk (about a half mile) to the Concordia dock where you'd get a ferry to either Amalfi or Positano (Amalfi is 35 minutes, 8 euro; Positano is 70 minutes, 12 euro).

From there (Amalfi or Positano) you could take a ferry to Sorrento and then get the Circumvesuviana train to Ercolano Scavi (for Herculeneum) and then again from there back to Naples.

Euro cruiser how much time do you think this proposed schedule will take ?

  8. Ok so I'm bumping this up to share my experience,

We had a 10:00 am flight out of FLL. Was worried about not being on time.

I followed some suggestions from this and other threads and this is how it went:

Checked In our flight the night before and printed the boarding passes.

Oasis made it on time at Port Everglades, even thou 4 hours after leaving St. Marteen the ship had to turn back because of a medical emergency.

Family had breakfast at Windjammer at 6 am while I was near Bolero´s, close to the gangway, saving a spot to be among the first disembarking (did it ourselves carrying our luggage).

Disembarking opened at 6:45 am. We were among the first groups to exit.

Reached costums and I figure there were 100 people in front. 2 lines running smooth, at around 7 am they opened 2 more lines.

Catched a cab and directly to airport. Went to airline counter just to drop luggage (avoided the check in procedure).

Went through security check and we were at the gate at 7:50.

ONE TIP: When you check in online, Jet Blue offers the option of something called like a "more speed", meaning you cut through the security check line and you go faster, for $10.00 (I didn't get it, found out at the airport).

  9. Has anyone tried the BAGS service offered by JetBlue ? Will be disembarking the Oasis at Port Evergaldes.

Here´s the description of the service on JB's website:

    Remote Check-in

JetBlue has paired with a dedicated airline service company called BAGS, Inc. to offer our customers the service at hotels, convention centers, on-airport and off-airport parking areas, rental car areas, and onboard cruise ships in a growing number of cities.

To use Remote Check-in, simply visit a JetBlue Remote Check-in property at least two to four hours before your flight (depending on the location). For prices ranging from $0 to $20 (also depending on location), you can check in for your flight and drop your baggage to be tagged and taken directly to the airport to be boarded on your flight. The BAGS representative will issue a boarding pass and bagtags, then collect your bags and deliver them to the airport. It’s quick, easy and secure.

    Onboard Cruise Ship Check-in

With the increasing success and popularity of the Remote Check-In Program, we have expanded the program to allow customers to take advantage of this service onboard cruise ships. Onboard cruise ship check-in is an expansion of our current Remote Check-in Program. We are currently serving Port Canaveral in MCO, FLL (Port Everglades and Port of Miami) and SAN (Port of San Diego).
