By what standard? Their names are certainly not Nordic in origin. Captain James McDonald is a native of New Brunswick, Canada and now lives in Florida. If he ever lived in Norway, I doubt he would qualify as being Norwegian.:)
Bill Wright's mother is Norwegian and his wife and children live in Norway .Remo lives in Aalesund Norway and was born there.Sverre Ryan is Norwegian or Swedish
Okwill give you Mcdonald .

Haven't done an actual breakdown by nationality, but while Norwegians seem to be predominant, Norwegian ancestry doesn't seem to be a requirement. Certainly Captains Wright, Zinni, MacDonald,Remo, Sullivan, Ryan, Kasselas, Hempstead, and Lauritzen are not.:)
Captain Wright, McDonald ,Ryan and Remo are Norwegian

The captains usually rotate 10 weeks on/10 weeks off, although they can make arrangements between each other as long as they are not on longer than 14 weeks or less than 8 weeks. **Note** the info is only as accurate as people post who their master was. It may be off by weeks, even months
Who's coming to Radiance?
We will be on the Radiance in Sept to Sydney. Does anyone know if they will have a different master by then? I am so disappointed that Captain Claus won't be on board for that crossing!

correction Captain Bang is still on the Liberty till the 27 of Febuary

Captain Faevelen was "start up captain" for the whole Voyger class, which does not mean he was in first command on any but MA.
The first EX Master was Olav Nyseter.

Capt. Johnny grew up in Sandnessjoen, a small town off the coast of northern Norway. After completing his military service in the Royal Norwegian Navy, he joined RCI's Song of Norway as an Ordinary Seaman. He later joined the Norwegian Naval Academy to study navigation and ship's handling. After spending time sailing around the globe as a Navigation Officer and Captain on oil, ore, car, and lumber carriers, he returned to RCI and was ultimately promoted to Captain in 1994. In 1998 he was appointed to the position of Start-Up Captain for all of the Voyager class ships. (taken from an earlier "Behind the Name Tags".
Captain Johnny was not the start up Captain for all Voyager class ships .Captain Svein Pettersen was the Captain for the Voyager. Captain Arnolf Remo was Captain for Adventure ,Captain Leif Otto Bang for the Navigator and Captain Johnney for the Mariner. So it was only one of the voyager class ships. It slips my mind who the Captain was for the Explorer.

Hope Captain Bang is on the Liberty of the Seas for the TA October 27, 2012. We really would love to sail with him again.

According to his wife, they leave Voyager 10-8-11. They should return around 12-18-11. Capt Bang has hinted to the guests at his Captain's Table that the December rotation is his last. But you know guys, when the time comes, they start dragging their feet. Capt Bang is 62 yrs old.
He has said he is retiring but no plans for the next year at least
