  1. Hello fellow cruisers, we've cruised Carnival and Holland.  Loved them both, Holland more so.  We are planning our next cruise, January 2023. We will book a suite and hopefully enjoy an adults only deck, swimming pool.  Does Holland have an adults only deck?   Has anyone cruised Celebrity and how would you compare Holland to Celebrity? Thank you to all who offer their opinion and time.

If you happen to stay near Little Italy, give Filippo's Pizza Grotto a try.

I had excellent meals there the many times I stayed in SD.

And it's not just pizza, lots of great Italian dishes abound!

Thank you so much! We love little Italy in SD.  This is a wonderful suggestion !

Aw.. Happy 40 year Anniversary! My sister and family have lived in San Diego for 40 years. We love downtown! How long are you staying prior to boarding?

The Oosterdam suites are beautiful and I'm sure you'll be so happy with it. You will not get a preboarding perk, but assume you'll board about 11:30 or so. Go to the main dining room for lunch. Relax and look around. Toast with a glass of champagne to your anniversary! I'm so happy for you. Enjoy your cruise. We will be on Oosterdam 6 weeks beginning March 7th. We will raise a glass to you, I promise!

Thank you very much!  Wonderful advice ! Have fun on your upcoming cruise as well.

  4. This will be our second cruise with Holland, so very glad to be back.  Our first cruise was in 2010 so my memories are a little foggy.  We're sailing on Oosterdam out of San Diego.  Does anyone know what time we can expect to board the ship and when will our Signature Suite (not sure if a booking a suite makes a difference in availability) be available?  First time having a suite, celebrating our 40 year anniversary! Any other tips about Oosterdam and San Diego cruise port would be welcome.

Others more familiar with San Diego port will be along to comment.  My experience there was to make sure you have your boarding pass out, drop your luggage with the stevedores, then enter the terminal. The assistants will direct you from there.

The normal boarding time begins at 11:30 am and, yes, you can go to your room right away.  Have a wonderful cruise and Happy Anniversary!!

    Thank you Miss G!

  6. Hello fellow sailors!  How does embarkation go in San Diego?  What time should we arrive at the port?  When can we expect to actually board the ship?  Once onboard, can you go to your room right away?  We're staying in a Signature Suite, not sure if that matters or not.  We are absolutely looking forward to sailing on Holland for our 40th anniversary!

  7. My heart is warmed by the kindness and generosity of the  Platinum and Diamond folks who offer help and gifts ( unneeded perk gifts) to new people on a cruise.  I'll always remember our first cruise.  We sat at a table on Lido deck wondering how to navigate it all.  Thank you for reminding me to pay it forward, all of the time!

  8. I generally wear clothing with no pockets while on cruises (dresses and skirts). And I dislike lanyards. So I carry a very small purse, usually a wristlet type, for my S&S card, tissues, cash for tips, Germ-X wipes, FunTimes tear-off (when this existed:rolleyes:), etc. Everybody is different, but this is the best option for me.:)

Do the FunTimes no longer have the tear off portion?

  9. If you play in the casino, I have a come up with a great way to practice. About a week before the cruise, while driving down the highway, every now and then I will roll the window down and throw a twenty out. It then hurts less when I lose in the casino.

This is absolutely hilarious! Thank you for the belly laugh!

  10. DH and I start taking Airborne a few days before a flight and throughout the travel days. I know some people say it doesn't work but it really seems to work for us.

On the cruise, it's mostly about washing hands, washing hands, and washing hands some more. We also don't go to the buffet--not because we are afraid of germs, just because we are not fans of buffets in general. But I'd imagine there's a bunch of germs hanging around in there so it probably helps.

Other than that, I'm following to see what other people suggest, because I've still come down with head colds while traveling on occasion. Never stomach issues though.

Thank you so much! We've never thought about Airborne. We'll start on that! And wash hands!

  11. We're sailing soon and thinking about the several times we have suffered poor health during a cruise. We've experienced stomach ailments to the sniffles on some of our cruises. Because of our location, we always have had to fly to our cruise port. (Except for our Alaskan cruise, we drove to the port, and... we didn't feel ill during the cruise!!) What do you do to keep your good health during a cruise?

  12. We usually get on and get a Funship Special for my wife, and a Thirsty Red Frog beer for me.

Go drop off our luggage and find a nice shaded spot to watch them load the ship. Its always fun to watch the pallets of things loaded onto the ship. Who would think we would need 3 pallets of just watermelons for a 5 day cruise!

I'm so glad you shared this! Where do you sit to watch? We're sailing in 6 months, our 9th cruise, and have never watched this before. I'm very excited to sit, wine in hand, and watch the food goings on! Thank you:)
