  1. Thank you both so much. You've cleared up my confusion. I read on a Valencia site that there was a bus 19 that could be caught close to the port, but when I finally found the street on a map, it was not very close to where I thought cruise ships came in. I also knew about the bus 4, but didn't know about the footprints to the bus - very helpful for us geographically challenged people! I also didn't know there were two different docking locations. There is a ship in town today according to marinetraffic.com and it is docked in the first area mentioned by mbeginner (and assume also by campoldady). I have read one post on CC that says that the cruise line I'm using (Oceania) provided a shuttle to a point close to the train station and tourist information center. I'm hoping that is the case, as that will help, but then I will also want to take a bus back to Oceanografic, Arts & Sciences, etc. so I was trying to figure out just what options I had.

Nope, not there on a Sunday. Our Sunday problem day is in Palma. I was hoping to rent a car there but nobody will do that unless I'm willing to pay almost $300, which I'm going to pass on.

I'd appreciate any information you guys can give me on Valencia. So far my plan is to concentrate on Arts & Sciences as I love modern architecture (and photography) but also to visit the old part of the city, too (Quart de Serranos, La Lonja, etc.)

At 200 meters walk from the cruise terminal (Manuel Soto Enginyer) you can take bus Nr. 4 to Plaça De L'Ayuntamient, right in the center of the city. The journey takes about 35 minutes.

The ticket costs € 1.50 per person (one way) and can be purchased on the bus Nr. 4 runs frequent every 15 minutes. You can consult the bus timetable in advance. Bus rute http://www.emtvalencia.es/geoportal/?lang=en_otp

Given the large distance between the port and the city center, most cruise lines provide a shuttle bus (whether or not complimentary). Most buses go to Plaça De L'Ayuntamient, right in the center of the historic city. From there you can explore everything on foot. Better check the price (if any) in advance. The public bus costs only € 1.50 per person (one way).

At the information desk of the Tourist Office in the cruise terminal you can buy a Valencia Cruise Card for € 10 per person. This includes a shuttle service, information about the city and some coupons ,etc .

  2. Thank you very much for the information. We will follow the advice posted here. My only question is what form of payment for the coach bus (cash, credit card) and can we buy a round trip? :)

Payment for the bus is only in domestic cash (HRK - kuna ) and You can not buy a round trip.

  3. My family (6 of us in total) are traveling on Seranade in October, calling on Slipt as a port. I have been doing some research about this port and what we should put on our list to see. I know Diocletian Palace and Trogir Town. Is this something we could do on our own? Should we hire a private tour excursion? Or, use the ship trip? We are docked at 8 am (probably clearing around 9:00 or so) and leave at 5 pm (have to be back by 4 PM). :)Thanks for any help.

Whether you dock at the cruise terminal or come ashore by tender boat, the center of Split is never far away. As soon as you arrive in the harbor you can already see the tower of the cathedral. Walk there and you are soon in the walled historic center, where you can also find the Tourist Office.A visit to the historic town of Split is an absolute must. In itself, the center is not very big, so expect 2-3 hours for your visit.

The historic center of Trogir, about 35 km from Split, is located on a small island between the mainland and the island of Ciovo. Trogir is the best-preserved Romanesque-Gothic complex in Europe. The city walls, mansions, Venetian towers and palaces make this city one of the richest cultural cities.

There is a regular public bus N° 37 between Split and Trogir, but the best option is a coach. You can take it at the bus terminal opposite the cruise terminal. The coach rides from Split and makes a stop in Trogir. The ride is much more comfortable then by public bus and it takes less than 30 minutes. A ticket can be purchased at the counter next to the bus station and costs 20-26 kn per person (one way). The buses run almost every 30 minutes.

  4. Has anyone been to Valencia on a cruise? I am having trouble finding out where the cruise ships dock, as there are a number of possibilities. I found the port web site, but there's nothing there to give me any clues. Does anyone know anything about Valencia??! If so, thanks!

If you dock at the cruise and ferry terminal in Valencia https://maps.google.hr/maps?saddr=39.455021,-0.32619&hl=hr&ll=39.455195,-0.325513&spn=0.002154,0.004646&sll=39.454901,-0.325293&sspn=0.002154,0.004646&t=m&mra=mift&mrsp=0&sz=18&z=18, it's easy to leave the port on foot. Close to the terminal you can find transport to the city center. If you dock more far away in the industrial area of the port https://maps.google.hr/maps?daddr=Nepoznata+cesta&hl=hr&ll=39.451206,-0.320578&spn=0.017232,0.037165&sll=39.451186,-0.326353&sspn=0.008616,0.018582&geocode=FUTrWQId7gj7_w&dirflg=w&mra=mr&t=m&z=15, it is not recommended to walk. It's far too busy and dangerous. In most cases you will be brought to the cruise and ferry terminal by shuttle bus. The port is located about 5 km from the city

  5. We will be docking in Cannes in June on the Epic. I have been looking at taking the ships excursion of Monaco & Monte Carlo. Part of me wants to do it but then again I keep thinking I can use public transportation and get there a whole lot cheaper.

    1. Has anyone ever taken the train or bus from Cannes to Monte Carlo?

    2. If you have ever done this what is the best way to get there?

    3. How long does it take?

    4. Should I just suck it up and take the ship excursion for a peace of mind?

Any advise would be great (Also I am sure this has been posted over and over on CC but I can't seem to find anything. If you know of any links or reviews please post those also).

Thanks guys! You all are the best!

Trains between Cannes and Monte-Carlo run 2-3 times per hour. The journey takes just over an hour and costs € 9,40 per person (one way, second class). It's best to check the train timetable before you go.

Monte-Carlo train station is situated at walking distance from the Casino. The palace and the Cathedral in Monaco Ville are easily reached by bus nr.2

Cannes train station is located in the north of the city on Place de l'étoile. From the tender boat station at Quai Croisière it's a pleasant 20 to 30 minutes walk. Walk along the harbor in the direction of Palais de Festivals. Once there turn left and take the Rue des Serbes. This street leads to the train station https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Quai+Max+Laubeuf&daddr=43.548476,7.0125259+to:43.551828,7.020596+to:Rue+Jean+Jaur%C3%A8s&hl=hr&ie=UTF8&ll=43.553556,7.018976&spn=0.015924,0.037165&sll=43.555049,7.019663&sspn=0.015924,0.037165&geocode=Fe96mAIdmgZrAA%3BFTx_mAIdrQBrACk1tOU1j4HOEjHSMZEt0dyKsw%3BFVSMmAIdNCBrACm3Q24pkoHOEjFhuRshFTkG3g%3BFWCTmAIdEB1rAA&dirflg=w&mra=dpe&mrsp=2&sz=15&via=1,2&t=m&z=15

Or take the bus (http://palmbus.fr/fiches-horaires-plans/ nr.1 , or 2 ,20 - ask the bus driver to go to the train station ) from Hotel De Ville https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Quai+Max+Laubeuf&daddr=Pl.+Bernard+Cornut+Gentille&hl=hr&ll=43.549155,7.014019&spn=0.007963,0.018582&sll=43.550951,7.012638&sspn=0.000995,0.002323&geocode=Fe96mAIdmgZrAA%3BFZaImAIdef9qAA&t=m&dirflg=w&mra=dme&mrsp=1&sz=19&z=16 to Gare SCNF (train station)

Pay the driver 1,5 € and then you will see a blue ticket validator just past driver that you put your ticket in to validate. Bus ride was about 10 minutes and stops right in front of station.

If you're in a hurry you can also take a taxi from the port. Expect to pay around €10 -15 per taxi (4 persons, one way).

    I hope that helps

  6. We are off on Costa Deliziosa next month and in addition to other ports of call we go to Turkey, Constanta and Bourgas.

Does anyone know how the changes to the Turkish visa system will now affect cruise passengers and what the visa arrangements are for Bulgaria and Rumania please.

    Many Thanks

    Clive

Those cruise passengers coming to a Turkish port of call by a cruise ship and thereafter leave Turkey by the same cruise ship for another country, are exempt from visa for a maximum period of 72 hours (with the permission given by the local security authorities).

The passengers of cruise ships are allowed to enter and stay overnight in the port cities of Turkey upon the permission given by local border police authorities. These passengers are not required to obtain an entry visa to Turkey.

If you are flying to or from Turkey (or spend the night in Turkey anywhere, except on the cruise ship) E-visa is required.

Cruise passengers who are boarding a cruise that starts in Turkey, or are disembarking a cruise that finishes in Turkey, E-visa is required.

Passengers holding a Schengen visa or residence card EU does not need VISA for Bulgaria and Romania

  7. Shoot this was supposed to be started in the Italy ports!!

Since we may not be able to rent a car on a Sunday (I need a back up plan) for our day docked in Catania. What would be the next best option for us "do-it- yourselfers? We want to go to Taormina and Mt Etna.

Also, I would LOVE a great Sicilian restaurant recommendation. I always use TripAdvisor, and I love the site. However, I recently looked up my own town, and was totally shocked about the restaurants made it in the top spots! Certainly none of the best places around. So it got me thinking….

    Thank you!!!!

From the cruise port of Catania it's easy to walk to the city center. As soon as you leave the cruise terminal, the center is indicated. There are also road markings. Follow this road and walk through the small gallery. There you will find the Tourist Office. Beyond the gallery you walk under the railway bridge and you'll arrive at V. Vittorio Emmanuele II. From there the center is just nearby.

    Landmarks and highlights in Catania

The Cathedral of the Archdiocese of Catania was dedicated to Saint Agatha of Sicily. It's dating from the 11th century and rebuilt in Sicilian baroque style.

It's a majestic palace located in the center of the city. Palazzo Biscari is dating from the 16th century.

Fontana dell'Elefante is the symbol of Catania. It's a big fountain with the statue of an elephant.

Roman amphitheater dating back from the 2nd century A.D.

Castello Ursino this castle was built around 1240 by Frederick II. It has four large towers and was used also as Museo Civico since 1934.

In Catania train station you can take a train to Taormina-Giardini. In Taormina itself is no train station. Depending on the number of stops, the journey takes between 40 minutes and 1 hour. A train ticket costsa bout € 4 per person (one way). It's good to check the train timetable in advance. If you take the train to Taormina, get off at station Taormina-Giardini. Just in front of the station you can then take the public bus (Interbus) to the center of Taormina. The journey takes about 20 minutes and costs € 1.80 per person (one way). There are 2-3 buses per hour. Taormina center is pedestrianized. The bus will park at a few minutes walk to the center. You can consult the Interbus timetable here.

Catania train station is located at Piazza Giovanni XXII, in the east of the city at about 1 km from the port. You can walk. https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Nepoznata+cesta&daddr=Nepoznata+cesta&hl=hr&ll=37.504126,15.09573&spn=0.008784,0.018582&sll=37.506928,15.099836&sspn=0.002196,0.004646&geocode=FU0xPAIdd1TmAA%3BFVtPPAIdimfmAA&mra=me&mrsp=1,0&sz=18&t=m&z=16

There is a direct bus service between Catania and Taormina provided by the Etna Trasporti bus company. In the morning and late afternoon there runs 1 bus per hour. Around noon and during the siesta, the frequency is lower. A ride from Catania to Taormina takes about 1h10min and costs € 4.90 per person (one way)

You can take the bus at the bus station on Via Liberta in Catania. The Taormina bus stop is a few minutes walk from the center. It's best to check the Interbus timetable in advance.

The bus station on Via Liberta is not far from the train station https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Nepoznata+cesta&daddr=Nepoznata+cesta&hl=hr&ll=37.507172,15.099176&spn=0.001553,0.002323&sll=37.506928,15.099836&sspn=0.002196,0.004646&geocode=FU0xPAIdd1TmAA%3BFVtPPAIdimfmAA&mra=me&mrsp=1,0&sz=18&t=h&z=19

Bus service between Catania and the highest car park at the summit of Etna. Unfortunately, there is only 1 bus per day and this option is not suitable for most cruise passengers.

The AST bus from Catania to Etna Sud (the car park at the cable car to the main crater) leaves at 08.h15. The bus back from Etna Sud starts at 16h30. The trip takes 2 hours (one way) and the bus makes a short stop in Nicolosi. Along the way you can enjoy some spectacular views along the flanks of the volcano. A ticket costs € 6.20 per person (return ticket). Better check the timetable in advance to see if it fits within your cruise schedule.

The AST bus leaves near the Catania train station

The Circumetnea is a local train that connects villages and towns at the foot of Mount Etna. The train runs every day from Catania (station Borgo) to Giarre-Risposto, except on Sundays and public holidays.

Randazzo is an interesting stop alon the trail and the town is worth a visit. This medieval city is closest to the top of Mount Etna and is completely built of lava stone. A trip from Catania to Randazzo takes 2 hours and costs € 8.20 per person (return). It's good to check the Circumetnea timetable in advance.

In Catania the Circumetnea train departs from the Borgo metro station. You can take the metro just outside the gates of the harbor at Porto station. The journey takes just a few minutes and you pay € 1 per person (valid for 90 minutes after valdiatie).

The metro runs only during the week a frequency of 15 minutes. A ticket is valid for 90 minutes after validation and costs € 1 per person. The metro network is managed by the same company as the Circumetnea. You can check the timetable in advance.

  8. I know, it doesn't sound exciting to me either, but by the time we get to Palma we're going to need to wash some clothes. We're sailing on the Epic and it seems there are no self-serve washers available. So, since we're just going to putz around in Palma anyway - is there somewhere convenient where we could do a couple load of laundry while we grab some lunch?

  11. I am looking at going to St. Paul's Bay in Lindos while on a port stop in Rhodes. How easy was it to get to the bus station from the pier? How long was the ride and was it easy to get back to the ship again? We will be there in June. Had thought to take a cab but it's prob a lot cheaper to go by local bus?

Lindos is about 50 kilometers south of Rhodes, St. Paul's Bay close to the ancient acropolis of Lindos (https://maps.google.com/maps?daddr=Nepoznata+cesta&hl=hr&ll=36.088818,28.090754&spn=0.017756,0.037165&sll=36.395309,28.22731&sspn=0.282987,0.594635&geocode=FYagJgId5pOsAQ&dirflg=w&mra=mr&t=m&z=15 ) . Public bus from Rhodes to Lindos, in the morning there runs a bus every half hour from Rhodes to Lindos. In the afternoon, the frequency is somewhat lower with 1 bus per hour. Along the route, the bus makes several stops at beach resorts. The travel time somewhat depends on the number of people getting on and off the bus. Expect 1 hour to 1 hour 20 minutes. The ticket costs € 5 per person (one way). The center of Lindos is pedestrianized. Buses (including tour buses of the cruise lines) have to park at Kranas Square. This is about 20 minutes walk from the city center at the foot of the hill. The first part of the road is downhill. The only way to get to the highest point of the city is on foot or on the back of a donkey. You can consult the bus timetable in advance. From Kranas Square you can take a shuttle bus to the foot of the hill for € 0.5 per person (one way). For a taxi you pay € 4 per taxi (4 persons one way). Rhodes bus terminal is located on Rimini Square (https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Averof%2F%CE%91%CE%B2%CE%AD%CF%81%CF%89%CF%86&hl=hr&ie=UTF8&ll=36.448593,28.2254&spn=0.008837,0.018582&sll=36.445521,28.227417&sspn=0.008838,0.018582&geocode=FbomLAIdnqyuAQ&dirflg=w&mra=mr&t=m&z=16 ) outside the city walls opposite the Tourist Office. The fastest way to get there is by taxi (€ 10, 4 persons, one way). You can also walk there. If you leave the dock, go right and stay on the waterfront. Enter the Old Town through the Arsenal Gate and leave it again via the Gate of Freedom. Now go left and left again. It will take about 15-20 minutes.

  13. Hi Everyone-

We are trying to figure out the easiest way to get to Cassis, France from the Toulon port on the Regal. I have checked the excursions, and it appears none of them go to Cassis. Does anyone know of a way to get to Cassis?

    Thank you,

    Iamlin

A train ride from Toulon to Cassis only takes 35 minutes and costs between € 8 and € 15 per person (one way). There runs a train every hour. From the station in Cassis, you can explore the city on foot. It's good to check the train timetable in advance. The only problem is that the train station in Cassis is 3.5 km and 40 minute walk(enjoy a long but pleasant walk along a tree-line pathway that runs along orchards and vineyards)

    to Cassis town center. https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Av.+de+la+Gare&daddr=Quai+des+Baux&hl=hr&ll=43.223316,5.548096&spn=0.032273,0.074329&sll=43.2147,5.537453&sspn=0.008069,0.018582&geocode=FUuykwIdq7pUAA%3BFSxnkwId9H5UAA&dirflg=w&mra=dme&mrsp=1&sz=16&t=m&z=14&layer=t

Take a cab or bus to the harbor http://www.ot-cassis.com/en/urban-bus-marcouline.html

Get to the train station from the cruise port in Toulon, depending on where you dock (Toulon or La Seyne-sur-Mer)

    From Toulon

Toulon train station it's located in the north of the city on Place Albert 1er https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=43.128536,5.929245&hl=hr&ll=43.128489,5.930986&spn=0.032072,0.074329&sll=43.128504,5.930965&sspn=0.008018,0.018582&doflg=ptk&mra=mift&mrsp=0&sz=16&t=m&z=14at about 20 minutes walk from the cruise port. You can also take bus N° 7. This brings you in a few minutes from the port to the train station for € 1.40 per person (one way).

If you dock at La Seyne-sur-Mer (mostly the case for larger cruise ships)

You can go there by taxi for about € 20 per taxi (4 persons one way) or you can take bus N° 8. This brings you from La Seyne N° 8 bus stop (within walking distance from your cruise ship) to Toulon for € 1.40 per person (one way). Get off at Vauban N° 8 bus stop in Toulon. From there it is a 5 minute walk to the train station. http://www.reseaumistral.com/plan/index.asp?rub_code=5&thm_id=1601&gpl_id=1603

The second option from La Seyne-sur-Mer is La Seyne-Six Fours train station, ( https://maps.google.hr/maps?saddr=43.117259,5.877296&hl=hr&ll=43.116366,5.877643&spn=0.00802,0.018582&sll=43.116335,5.877643&sspn=0.008082,0.018582&mra=mift&mrsp=0&sz=16&t=m&z=16 ) located halfway on the way to Toulon. There are some interesting connections to the west (Marseille, Aix-En-Provence, Bandol, ...). For eastbound connections you always have to switch trains in Toulon. You can reach La Seyne-Six Fours train station by taxi (€ 10, 4 persons, one way) from La Seyne cruise port. You can also take bus N° 8 or N° 82 making a stop near the cruise port. The trip takes about 15 minutes and costs € 1.40 per person (one way).

  15. Is it just the walk up to the monastery? Any other suggestions of a day in Patmos?

The most famous locations on Patmos are Skala and Chora. Saint John’s monastery is the most famous attraction on the island. The Holy Cave of the Apocalypse is another must see. Although the architecture is Dodecanese, it is comparable to Cycladic style of cubic whitewashed houses that have tiled or flat roofs with colored shutters.Skala is near the cruise port and can be explored on foot. However you will want to take a taxi or shuttle bus to Chora. In Chora you will visit the monastery of Saint John. Patmos is home to many religious relics that are a must see. Exploring Patmos can take from a few hours to a whole day, depending on your interests. Just in front of the docking are in Patmos is a bus stop for the local bus between Skala and Chora. The bus normally runs every hour, but on cruise days it seems to run more frequent and irregular. The good thing is you only pay € 1,5 per person one-way. The trip takes about 15 minutes.Taxis can be found in the parking lot in front of Patmos cruise port in Skala. A ride to St. Jonh’s Monastery will take about 15 minutes and costs around 10-15 € per taxi one-way.

A good option is to go up by public bus or taxis and come back on foot. From the Monastery of St. Johan in Chora there’s a paved walking path down to the Holy Cave of the Apocalypse which is about halfway down. It’s also possible to catch the public bus there for the last part down.

  18. I have some information about regular bus services from Ashdod to Jerusalem #438 & #448, leaving from the bus terminal 6km from port, however there is also mention of a stop at "HaNamal Junction" about 1km from the port.

Unfortunately, there is no way to locate this place on google or any other map, so I presume it is a local name for a junction of two, possibly major, roads.

If someone who knows the area could enlighten me as to the names of the streets that intersect at this junction, it would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Bus stop at the Ha-Namal Junction (https://maps.google.hr/maps?saddr=31.828,34.671841&hl=hr&ll=31.828383,34.670362&spn=0.018815,0.037165&sll=31.828,34.672444&sspn=0.004704,0.009291&mra=mift&mrsp=0&sz=17&t=m&z=15 ) about 1 km walk from the cruise terminal. It's good to check the bus timetable before you leave.

  19. Does anyone know of economical and efficient transportation from the port of Cadiz to Seville and return for a 6-8 hour day trip? Thanks.

A better option is by bus to Sevilla.A bus to Sevilla from Cadiz is a good option. It’s relatively fast (about 1 hour 40 minutes one-way and €13.45 per person one-way). They run every 2 hours. In Sevilla get off at the San Sebastian bus station. This is on walking distance from the historic center. Cadiz bus station is located in front of the train station, just across the street from the docking area exit. Down at the parking lot near the roundabout of Plaza Sevilla you will see the bus terminal. By the time we checked, the bus station office was located in some white containers close to the bus stop. Better check the bus timetable from Cadiz to Sevilla before you go.
