  1. Now that deployment has started for 2018 and such. I'm curious, how does everyone check out the new deployments and cruises as they are released. Are you simply refreshing the royal Caribbean cruise search website looking for 2018 bookings or is there a chart or something?

I'm getting the feeling that its a good idea to book early but how do we know exactly what was released and what to look at to book?

  2. Jeff, thanks for the great post! Had some additional questions...

We are on Navigator on August 30th! I have a 15 month old son who LOVES playing in the water. When you say "Toddlers" aren't allowed are you speaking to kids say 1 year and less or anyone under 5? My son walks, runs, everywhere I'm hoping they won't say something!

Also, I'm hearing a lot about (its not as formal as other cruises) in general did you find people dressing down a lot?

  3. This is Fantastic News! Whether or not you think this is an embarrassment for Royal in the end they listened to their guests!

I think its great to offer it on Quantum, giving us a choice of a ship with DD (if you want to try it or like it) and for everyone else the dining room and ambiance that we love stays the same!

I do agree that they need to update MDR menus big time.

  4. My first cruise with Royal was on Freedom in 2008 and it was the most amazing experience of my life.

The fare wasn't too bad, policies were more lax, the excitement of the 70's dance party and amazing theater shows, great food everywhere, friendly not overworked staff, and the cherry on top was the poolside buffet/dance party under the stars.

I've loved Royal ever since but have definitely noticed some depressing changes since 2008. No poolside buffet, same exact dance party and songs as back in 2008 (would it be that hard to switch it up every year or so?) Same shows year after year, new pizza recipe for Sorrentos that (saves money on ingredients) = HORRIBLE PIZZA. Staff pushing to book onboard restaurants, less staff and automatic gratuities means worse service.

I think people want an unparalleled experience thats mostly all inclusive, simple dinner choices that have excellent food, beautiful and well maintained ships, friendly, relaxed and professional staff, variety in shows and cruise compass events (there are a hundred other things we can do than a belly flop contest and a 70's dance party) When we went to Haiti in 2008 it was mostly undeveloped and tenders to the shore, I appreciate all the recent development there but Falmouth is 1 big mistake. The port sucks, especially if you just want to get off and hang out for free, you almost have to do an excursion or stay on the boat.

  5. A major reason some people LOVE cruising is that its easy, relaxing, entertaining and there is no agenda. Its pure freedom from the hectic scheduling of normal life. Dynamic dying forces people to plan ahead, schedule every meal and when you add that onto already scheduling entertainment (oasis class) and a horrible new website design that makes it extremely frustrating for even experienced cruisers to book excursions and dinners you end up with not the best customer experience.

Royal needs to keep it super simple and be king of the Customer experience.

They have the best ships, lets make sure we offer the easiest experience onboard as well.

  6. I think Classic dining is a poor solution to a bigger problem (dynamic dining)

I think people A. like having formal nights for the whole ship and B. don't want to have to plan out every dinner for every night of the cruise. Classic Dining is somewhat of a solution to this but it just adds to the options for dining, complicates things and forces you to stay with a group moving to different restaurants even if you don't like the group.

I think a better solution would be: Instead of getting rid of the MDR, just make it smaller and put everyone on mytime dining. Then add 1 or 2 new free to eat specialty restaurants.
