On formal, called gala nights, the only venue that is somewhat restricted/enforced on clothing is the mdr. If you do not want to dress up, the lido is the alternative unrestricted restaurant. Since you aim for that anyway you are fine for all nights. You will be missing out of more food choises. The lido used to echo the mdr menu, but alas no more.
I generally take a couple of nice black pants and 2 or 3 sparkly tops and I've always been good. I loved looking at the really dressed up people but like my sparkly tops and black pants. Just have fun.

We have never won a prize (pin or anything) but we go for the fun of it. It is now taken too serious. We do not join another group because we feel put down when cannot help them, so just enjoy ourselves alone, sort of. Sometimes we get as many 5 points WOW.
Join other people just for the fun of meeting them. We have met several wonderful couples playing trivia. We win some, we lose some. Just enjoy yourself. If you don't like the group you are with, try to find another one. We always try to fine a Canadian or someone from England, cause there's usually quite a bit of questions in those categories.
Yes, pins seem to be the prizes nowadays!

Prinsendam tub sides are as high as those on the S- & R-class ships. Those are all much higher than those on the Vista/Signature ships.
When I was involuntarily upgraded on the Prinsendam I was given a cabin with a tub. I had to enter it as if I were mounting a horse. And this was before my knees got even worse than they eventually got!
Getting out was tougher since the floor of the bathroom is lower than the bottom of the tub.
If I were you, I would seriously consider switching to a shower-only cabin. I expect the 10' difference is the territory where the second nightstand can't fit.
In the tub cabins there are two nightstands. In the shower-only cabin next door, there is no nightstand next to the couch.
At least that's how it was in my A-category cabin. My memory of the outside cabins is that they are the same, except no balcony.
You can also request a shower chair. The ones I have used will not fit with the shower chair from side to side in the tub, but I just sit on the end of the chair. Haven't had any problems doing that.

You really lucked out ... Jimmy Maddox just got on the Zaandam this week. One of the best, enjoy !
Will he be on it in March as well?

I have a fool proof (so far) but if I told you I would probably have to kill ya! Joking of course! About the killing!

We often share and have never had a problem getting a table for two if that is what we ask for.
-
Thanks for all the advice. Called my TA yesterday and have the forms via email already! Hope it will be easy peasy!

I'm going to have to cancel a cruise for next week. How do I get started? Sorry, for not knowing the steps. Thanks for any advice.

On our last cruise in September, we found the perfect table and crew we loved. We reserved it after 2 nights, for the rest of the cruise. So, I think it depends on a lot of factors. Mainly, the young guy working at the podium, who seemed to enjoy talking and cutting up with us!

We were told by the front office if we did not use all of our OBC that it would just disappear. So, when we left we had a little over $10 left and lo and behold, we did get a credit for that. We also got the #24.17 X 2 for port charges.
-
TA first told me it couldn't happen and I told him I read all the time about people getting more OBC, etc. So apparently, he got on the ball. Happy camper here.
-
Don't really know how I did it but my OBC went from $350 to $650 due to cruise being lowered in price. First, my TA said it could not be done, but then came back and said he was wrong! My husband said being a capital B pays off every now and then. This does include my $100 OBC for shares.
-
Thank you very much. Looking forward to it.

I submitted paper work for a cruise in September. They noticed I had one in March and went ahead and gave me the credit for that one too.

Thanks for all the advice, etc. I hope tomorrow will have some answers, one way or the other. I can pretty much do well with the walker and will be bringing it with me if I do get to do the cruise.. I may throw in the placard, just in case.
Wish I had made a You Tube of today's almost disaster. We purchased a new set of washer/dryer appliances and was trying to get the old stuff out in preparation for the new ones to be delivered on Thursday. We have a counter on one wall in the computer room that can be moved in the event we did need new appliances. Well, my husband got it on two rollers and into the kitchen,. But, he could not get it into the dining room by himself. He asked me to sit on the floor and move the wheeled thingy so he could move the counter. Well, I got down there and could not get up. I have no strength in my right leg and nothing we did worked. Finally, I scooted on my hinny to the living room as was able to get myself up on the sofa. I was kinda like humpty dumpty.
So, he will have to get the appliance guys to help him get it back into the computer room.
Getting old is not for sissies. Need to find the non-emergency number for assistance if this happens again!

Will definitely bring a list of meds. But most of them are not for my problem at the time. I have a ruptured disc and my right leg is numb from the knee down. The walker is to keep me from falling down (as I did frequently before getting the walker) and breaking a hip of something. I do not look disabled, and don't want to be perceived that I'm trying to get away with something.
Hopefully, Wednesday will be the day for a decision. We are flying into Boston, taking a transfer to the ship and flying from Montreal to Atlanta after the cruise.
Many thanks.
-
If you are using a walker and have a handicap placard, do you need to bring that or do you get a letter from your doctor stating your disability. Hopefully, mine will be limited. But I do have a cruise planned for Sept 12th and I don't see it getting any better without surgery!

There was a lady with a therapy dog on our transatlantic cruise last year. She would literally push him/her right into people's faces for them to pet her. Very nasty. True service dogs, I can understand. But, in my very own humble opinion, if you are that bad off, you and your therapy animal should both stay off the ship!

Thanks for the phone number! I'll keep it with the share statement, so I won't have to ask again! It will be easier for us to fax it rather than sending it to our travel person and getting him to fax it.
I do not have HAL insurance but do have a policy that is supposed to be very good thru BJ's (like Sam's and Costco) if you are not familiar with them.
-
1. I know someone posted the fax number for HAL to send the share letter to, but as usual I did not write it down. Please help!
2. Have you ever had to cancel a cruise and how did it go with the Travel Insurance policy? have a doctor's appointment on Wed which will determine if I will have to cancel or not.
Thanks in advance.

We were on her last year and will be on her again September 12th. Loved the ship, the crew and really everything about her!
