  1. During the day it was functional as an area to sit and chill or have a drink, but at night it added a lot of congestion in the area and if you didn’t get there at least 30 minutes prior to a show, you’ll have a hard time finding available seating. Your attention will also be drawn to shows, whether you like it or not as the sound permeates throughout the atrium and the shops and eateries in that area.

This reminds me that it would be very nice is the cruise lines would provide a non-alcoholic drink menu at the bars.

I don't want to always drink a pepsi, water or juice, but I am also quite intimidated to walk up to a bar and explain I want something non-alcohol, sort of fruity, but not too fruity with a little spice....WHAT A PITA!!

    Menu would be nice

ive thought the same thing recently. It would be nice for those in recovery to have more choice when it comes to “mock tails” and the like.

  3. Frugal… not exactly. When it comes

to a cruise, i won’t go so far as splurging for a suite since i don’t spend so much time in the cabin, but I’ll always book a balcony. Ill also book specialty restaurants, soda packages, spa treatments, and excursions for every port. Where i do save money is airfare since I’ll use miles to pay for my significant other and myself as well as using points for hotels pre and post cruise.  I always like saving as much as possible, but not at the risk of losing out on experiences.

  4. The last cruise we did (two years ago) was barely memorable. For him, because of the drinking and me fixating on the drinking. I hadn’t yet learned how to give up trying to control the situation.  But this cruise he is sober and we are taking his mom, who has never been on a cruise or traveled anywhere. So both us are planning to show her all the fun things to do and just enjoy all the things we’ve been missing out on. Can’t get here soon enough!

  5. Thanks for your response! We will definitely be looking for the meeting times once we are onboard. Honestly,  I was hesitant at booking a cruise because of all the temptation, but realize that there’s always gonna be temptation no matter where you are. The program has been doing wonders for him so i sure hope there’s at least a couple others there for support. We’re looking forward to the winning some ships on a stick and stuffing our faces!

  6. Sailing the Horizon on Sept 4 which will be my significant other’s first cruise sober. I’ve seen the “Friends of Bill W” meetings listed in the Fun Times on previous cruises, but wondering if anyone has any experience attending these. What is attendance like on average? Just curious as AA has been a big part of his recovery.

  7. I always go to the FOD meetings, at least the very first few nights on ship. I can't say much for Carnival, since this is only my second cruise with the line and on the Paradise last year, I was the only FOD who showed up, but on NCL, Celebrity, and Royal Caribbean, the events were popular and you could normally tell who was part of the group.

So, if there's a large FOD on this sailing, it should be apparent who is part of it. If not then, I say, just strike up conversation with whoever is present at the bar. You should have an idea soon there-after. If it turns out that person isn't part of the group, well at least you were social and that's part of the fun in cruising.

  8. I had initially planned on booking NCL Breakaway this summer, but with plans to relocate in August/September, I decided to conserve money and save it for next year. However, a friend conned me into booking a 5 night on Carnival with her... So April 15, we depart on the Paradise for Grand Cayman and Cozumel. It's been over 20 years since I've sailed with Carnival, so not too sure what to expect...
