  1. We didn't take shorts on our last Alaskan cruise in 2013. We regretted that choice on more than one occasion. We will NOT make that mistake when we sail in 40 days! Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

  2. Thank you so much for posting the menus. We are trying to decide when we want to go to the Tamarind and PG on our upcoming cruise. We haven't gone on a cruise in four years.

I am also vey excited to see guava juice is still offered in the morning! It is one of my favorite parts of the cruise.

  3. We bought ours from Salmon ETC. in Ketchikan. The shop is small but they offered samples of just about everything. They shipped it home for us for no additional charge and even held the order a day or so to be sure we would be home to receive it! They also carry a reindeer sausage and salami that is delicious.

  4. And ships lights in general drown out the starlight. You typically do not see more that you would on the suburbs.

  5. We always go early to enjoy the embarkation port but the point of arriving early hit hard a few years ago. Our flight from New York to Barcelona was rerouted to Gander, Newfoundland due to mechanical issues with the plane. 12 hours in Gander before we were on our way again. We lost a day in Barcelona but made it there a full day before getting on the ship!

Now we plan at least two days just in case.

  6. Ok, so this may be a charter thing or misinformation from my charter. The information provided by the charter company claiming to be per HAL says one bottle of wine per person, no beer, spirits, liquor, and bottled water/soda.

I have looked all over HAL site and mention of the water/soda. I am curious to know the real deal because I don't drink soda and getting enough juice for mixers in my stateroom is a challenge. I was hoping to bring my own cranberry juice to go with the vodka we will order for the room.

Kazu: are you planning to take water/soda on board? If so, when you return will you let me know the truth?! I really like to sip a cosmo or cape cod on my balcony and I am traveling with a very large group -- we have all of the aft cabins on the Navigation deck booked so we will spend more time on the balcony than most folks.

Sorry if I panicked anyone with false info!

  7. You can preorder but you have to be closer to your cruise. We usually do order bottles for the rooms since we tend to travel in a large group booked together. We make a drink and travel from room to room or hang out on our "extended" deck.

I just haven't ordered this particular bottle so I was curious to know of it was a choice.

  8. I tried searching but nothing came up! Does anyone have a menu for the in room beverages you can order? Specifically, we want to know if we can order a bottle of Baileys for our Alaska cruise in August. We usually just order vodka but thought the Baileys would be nice for Glacier Bay.

Yes, I know the lido deck is the place to be but we are going with a large group of folks and have all of the 8th deck cabins booked between us. The nice room stewards will open up all the balcony doors so we can go from one end to the other. We did the last time and had a blast!

    Thanks!

  9. Great list. We are planning a Medi cruise in July 2011 and this will come in handy.

We go on charter cruises and if you brought a walkie talkie you might find yourself in the bottom of the pool! We travel in a group of at least 25 and are fortunate enough to travel WITH our travel agent. TO keep track of who is where, we pick up one of those small dry erase boards they make for school lockers and the 3M sticky stuff that you can put it up with. We put it up on the outside of our doors and leave notes as to who is where. It is also fun to see what kinds of crazy, silly messages our friends leave us! It is also helpful for the friends you make on board.
