  1. On our E Med trip in July 99% of the kids were polite and well behaved.

The only exception was one family with 4 kids (2 boys and 2 girls, ages 8-12ish) when they were ALWAYS in the Haven pool most of the time unsupervised.

When their parents weren't around they ran around...played tag on the wet pool deck, jumping from the side of the hot tub into the pool...I finally said something to them, and they did stop, at least while I was around. The pool attendant nor the consierge (who could clearly see them from his desk) ever said a thing...all it would have taken was a wet spot and slip to crack a head open.

  2. Okay

We just got back from a Barcelona city tour...you CAN wear shorts and tanks in La Sagrada.

You CANNOT wear shorts or tanks inside the other city Cathedrals. There were many women selling light scarves and wraps right outside the entrances...I did not see how much they were.

  3. I can care less if someone is wearing shorts. Is has more to do with the kind, there are dress shorts, gym shorts, and too short shorts and too tight tights...and don't get me started on speedos and tongs.

I am more bothered by obnoxious drunks, loud hormonal teenagers.

I have seen all of this on DCL and RCCL...this will be my first NCL, and I expect it here as well.

I think it has more to do with

-time of year cruising, summer, spring, school breaks, etc

-intinerary, bahamas vs virgin islands, Med vs TA, etc

-length of cruise, the shorter ones tend to be have more "party" type atmosphere...I have noticed this on DCL, having sailed with them many times

  4. Yes, your phone needs to be in airplane mode to be sure you don't get charges from your cell carrier, then you turn the wifi back on. You will pay a one-time activation fee of $9.95 per device to activate the texting and calling features, then you can message each other through the app itself. There are also many other things you can do with the app that don't require the fee.

It's not available on all ships.

    What they said.

You have to activate it on board. The pay features are Texting and Calling on board. The rest like making dining reservations, showtimes, etc are free.

Think of it as an INTRANET...a closed internet system for onboard the ship.

  5. An upgrade is sometimes discounted when the going rate for a certain category has decreased, and is done through the general NCL number, by you or TA...it can happen anytime after final payment or even before.

Upsell is a special department at NCL that ONLY does upsells. They were traditionally only offered to a select few and you had to wait for a call or email. This usually occurred a month or so out from sail date.

Now, the NCL Upsell line is open to anyone to call and enquire about an Upsell offer...based on currant category booked and unsold higher categories.

The price for an Upsell is significantly discounted. I got and Upsell from aft facing balcony to deluxe owners suite for less then half the going rate.

It is sort of like winning the lottery when you know half the numbers they are going to be drawn...no guarantee, but possible to increase you odds a bit.

  6. Some have reported getting upsells as far as 30 days out. Have not heard of anyone getting an upsell further out then that.

I called the first time 6 weeks out, was told (very nicely) to call back the end of the week as nothing was released yet. I had to work that Thur and Fri so didn't get a chance to call until Monday.

When I called, all the H4 suites were sold out...but, she offered the H2. I booked the last one. If I had waited it would have been gone. SO, it really just depends on how the cabins are selling for that particular cruise. Keep an eye on the dates and don't hesitate to call, and don't wait.

Some people freak out when others seem to get something they don't. But, how many people REALLY spend the time doing the research? Not many. I know people at work who just take someones suggestion for a vacation (coworker or TA) book it and show up. It blows my mind that people are will hand over that kind of cash and not do any research.

I wonder what the numbers are of people who book a cruise compared to the number who even check out CC before hand?

  7. What are the suite perks that you do get? We got 2 upsell offers on our first cruise, but at $500pp, with 3 of us in the room (KSF) we would have been almost doubling our cruise fare (originally $1600 or so, not including taxes and fees). All of the suites obviously are nicer/bigger than the balcony rooms, but until you get into the multi-bedroom "garden villas" and such, they aren't that impressive, compared to an average hotel room, for instance.

The upsell price is for the first two people only...so would have been $1000, still a lot. It depends on what suite you are talking about.

I got an up-sell from BA to H2 for $500pp, so $1000 for three of us. We are going from just over to 200 Sq.ft. to 850 Sq.ft. If you compute price per sq.ft. per person, this is a STEAL!

  8. Beautiful Pictures...thank you for the review.

We are in the Haven on the Epic in a couple of weeks and find all the reports so helpful.

I would have just enjoyed the meal and dealt with all the hassle later, probably would have just mentioned it to the concierge and they would have taken care of it in a snap.

I hope my DD (13) find some cool kids to hang out with for the week.

  10. I really don't think that many people travel with multiple parties staying in separate tiered categories or feel compelled to invite strangers back to the Haven area. Most of this is applying to immediate family and close friends vacationing together. So no I don't think it will be overrun if they visit for a bit and have a drink.

  11. Honestly, I can care less is someone brings a friend or family member into the Haven. As long as it is not a party and still have my space. We can all be adults and respectful. A large loud drunk or obnoxious group would be a problem whether they have paid for the Haven experience or not.

  12. This may be a silly question but what is the difference between an "upsell" and an "upgrade"? And, what do I say when I call? My sailing is three weeks out. I booked through a TA and currently have a balcony cabin. Thanks.

    To add...

You can not always get an Upsell...they are based in numbers of cabins/categories available close to sail date. They are only available close to sail dates...sometimes up to 6 weeks out...keep an eye on how full the ship is with mock bookings or cruise fish. There is a special phone number that only deals with upsells. If they are available they are waaaaaaayyyyy cheaper then the full price...I payed less than of the advertised price for my H2. But, again I got lucky and kept an eye on my sailing...and would have been perfectly happy with my aft facing balcony if I failed to get the Upsell.

You can upgrade whenever you want if not sold out.
