  1. Just an update regarding my claim. I sent my claim and attached the Medicare portion that show that they don't pay for outside the US and I received an email that the $95.00 will be sent to me in the next 2 days. So all is well. Thanks for the idea to add Medicare rules it worked for me.

  2. Hank, I just wonder since you work with Medicare and any of you who submitted a claim to Medicare how long does it take for Medicare to reply whether it is for cruise ship or personal matter. We never had to do that and going back on this matter we are lucky it is small amount so it doesn't matter but what if it was $1,000.00 or more how long is the process to get decided also in personal matters how log it take to get an answer from Medicare. Just for education. Thanks

  3. This whiz what I found under Medicare:

    • pay for medically necessary health care services I
      get on a cruise ship?
Medicare may cover medically necessary health care services you get on a cruise ship inthese situations:

      • e doctor is allowed under certain laws to provide medical services on the cruise ship.

      • e ship is in a U.S. port or no more than 6 hours away from a U.S. port when youget the services, regardless of whether it’s an emergency.
Medicare doesn’t cover health care services you get when the ship is more than 6 hours

      2 away from a U.S. port.

  4. When submitting a claim to Medicare how does it take to get an answer pay or denial? With all this what would be a good insurance to buy that would be reasonable? For it to be pay as primary insurance and cover the expenses one can encounter? We usually but the cruise line insurance thinking of needing to cancel after final payment date. I see now this is not enough

  5. I have Medicare as my primary and a supplement with United Healthcare thru AARP. I opted for the supplement that does provide some coverage when outside of theUS. Plus I always take the Princess insurance.

I have required medical services twice during cruises. The first time was when I fell while touring the Vatican on a private tour and did a face-plant. My upper lip was split and had a few facial abrasions. Staff on the grounds of the Vatican scooped me up into a wheelchair and took me to the infirmary on the grounds. The doc there wanted me to go to the ER at a hospital in Rome, which I flatly refused. I insisted that he clean up the lip and apply butterfly bandages to it, and went on my merry way, finishing the all-day tour. Upon return to the ship, I went to the medical center, where the ship’s doc sutured my lip, and obtained facial x-rays, as well as x-raying one wrist that was painful. Fortunately, there were no facial fractures, and the wrist was only sprained, and she applied a splint to that. That care added up to a bit over $600, and when I got home I filed a claim with the supplemental insurance, which paid a small amount of the total. I sent in the documentation to the Princess insurance of that filing, and received a check for 100% of the remainder of the costs.

The second time, I had somehow goofed when I packed my daily prescription medications and did not bring along enough of one necessary med to last thru the entire cruise. The onboard physician was able to provide a prescription for enough to get me thru, which was for a med that is fairly common, and it was able to be filled from the supply in the medical center. Between the charge for seeing the doc and the cost of the med, my bill was about $130. Again, I filed with the supplement, and then with Princess insurance, and it was 100% paid between the two.

In both instances, I did not bother to file with Medicare before submitting it to the supplement.

Well, this is what we thought to do. We crossed we're it asked for the primary doctor's name and wrote that that princess is the primary insurance at the question why we didn't submit it to Medicare care. We were thinking it is to small and they should pay, but now after talking to all of you we have second thought weather to send it or just forget all about it.

  6. I don't know but I once looked into buying insurance outside the cruise line with pre existing conditions and cancel for any reason. It goes by age and if you are on the older side it is VERY VERY expensive. Any of you know of any insurance like that but reasonable price?

  7. I have a question please. We just returned from a cruise. We bought the gold insurance. My household had to see the doctor and we paid the $95.00 doctor visit. We called the insurance so we can get the $95.00 when we received the claim it said that we had to send it to Medicare first and then to the insurance. So my first question is if there are any medical bills because sometimes they could be large if an accident happened during the cruise do Medicare pay? What if a person have HMO? While our bill was small it's not always the case. My second question is do we need to send the bill to Medicare? If yes than why do we get insurance other than able to cancel before the cruise. Thanks

  8. By "gold" I mean I bought the platinum one for cancel for any reason before the cruise. We would have received credit to use for further cruise. Again we did this thinking that if we can not cruise after final payment date we would not have to bother with insurance. I'm so happy I asked the question because I was going to it any way without sending it to Medicare because of the small amount but we could have got in trouble I think I'm to forget it much easier. I will post the same in CC travel.

  10. we need some input and help. We were thinking of cruising the Panama Canal next year for 19 days round trip from Los Angeles it is with the Island princess. In looking at the deck plan and reading cruise critics reviews and comments this ship was on dry dock and part of deck 7 bars/entertainment area is not there also deck 5 does not have the Piazza. We love watching people dance on deck 5 and the many different thing going on on that area. Also we love having a drink and having different bars with different things going on at night. So we are not sure about this ship. So we thought of may be taking the princess star round trip to Hawaii for 15 night. Again in reading cruises critics auditor review it say that the ship is lacking entertainment especially in the theater. So we would truly appreciate any input to help us decide. We looking for a ship close to the crown or the Ruby. The entertainment is important to us especially having many sea days. Please help. Thanks

  11. Thanks, you so kind. I can't begin to describe how much they looked, stared, laugh. I'm used to people to look at me but not the way they did and they way they made me feel as if I just fallen out of the sky. I'm writting so may be people like you will give me their feed back so I can get the nerve to go back. I'm very friendly and very out going so I have no problem with people it is the other way around.

  12. This is hard for me to write but I fell that this sight is so good and helpful that I just might get my answerers. About 10 years ago I went to trip to China (with a group and was not a cruise). I'm a disable person I'm 4'1 tall and when I was in China the people were very mean to me. Made fun of me.........every were I went to a point that I promised my self never again to visit their. Now 10 years went by and some family trying to talk me into taking a cruise same distention. I'm scared but I think people might change after 10 years plus a cruise is much less time in land. My question is mamly for people that may be disable if they felt the same lately when visiting or did the people change for the better? I don't know were else to post this question any help will be appreciated.

  14. I wondered the same thing when looking at Oasis cabins. The thing you don't really appreciate until you get on the ship is how incredibly wide the ship is! It's also really well sound proofed. In reality, the balcony rooms aren't really that close to Dazzles at all because of how wide it is.

Although I didn't take the cabin near Dazzles, I doubt you'll have an issue. I did have a cabin by the stairs / elevators on the other end and was very pleased with that decision. It's a very long ship with a long walk between elevator banks, I really enjoyed being so close to one.

    Dave

I picked cabin 8662 I was told it's Ok. I wonder if your cabin was near it as this one close to the stair. It is next to a JS so I think it can't be bad.

I was offered a cabin near the elevator and I was worried if it is right by the elevators open hallway. So cabin near the elevator is OK. Thanks so much. You are not the first one who had a cabin by the stairs and loved it.

  16. Hi

I'm trying to make a cabin selection I was thinking of deck 8 Aft to be close to the elevators. I noticed that Dazes bar is on deck 8 I wonder if it is this bar has a lot of loud music until late at night? Would deck 7,8.or 9 around the bar be a bad selection of cabin. Can any one tell me how loud is this bar and if any one stayed on deck 7 under the bar or deck 9 above it or near it on deck 8 was it OK or should I try different deck. I wanted to be close to everything so deck 8 seems great but now I'm not so sure. Please help Thanks

  17. Thanks so very much for all of your help.I'm happy you told me about the area as it will be my mom and my self and I need a safe area.By any chance do you have any other motel/hotel to recomend please that will be close to every thing? The Riverside is more than what I want to spend but great location for me.

  18. We booked to stay at the Hampton Inn post cruise for 3 days. Is it in a safe and good location to be? Is it close to Las Olas and public transportation, water taxi....We are 2 females and unable to rent a car so we need to stay close to everything... If this is not a good one can you sagest any other one. We are trying to stay in budget.

  19. I need an advice. We planning a B2B, since we need to fly out of LA so we are trying to save that way. I'm looking to stay 3 nights in FLL but due to the price of the cruise we may just do the cruise only. Is their is a way to take a city tour at the end of cruise 1. The cruise line only have tours that end at the air port and we need to get back to the ship. If not can we do something on our own to see a little bit of this beautiful city? I'm also thinking of the time we would need to spend to get off the ship since everyone will be leaving to go home.

    Thanks so much Lannie

  20. I was recommended the Hampton Inn also. Is it by Las Alos? The river walk and the water taxi? I never been to FLL so I'm kind of at a lost. Also how is the price at that hotel? Did any of you booked thru Priceline.com I tried going to the web site and was not sure about it. When I called them they said they have no one to help. What happen if you want to cancel a reservations?

  21. I'm not sure if I' am on the right area of cruise critic and if not please let me know. We will be in For Lauderdale for 3 nights next April, before our cruise. I'm not sure what hotel to choose. I was suggested of the Riverside in Las Alos but when I look at the map I see many hotels on 17th St. Are Las Alos and 17th St. close by? I'm trying to stay in the tourist area. We are NOT looking for swimming but love city tours and looking around but foot or bus if possible. We are looking for budget hotel/motel any advice would be appreciate it. Would love to have transfer to hotel and port included if possible.

Also any point of intrest or things to do?

    Thanks for all the help
