  1. Thanks for the latest responses ... and POA1, I'm following your cruise, just on page 17, can't wait till I get spare time to read on. You are a hoot! Love those laugh-out-loud names - Mr. Hugh Jass :') Thank you so much for all the helpful info - really helping me plan my cruise days!

Regarding the early am flight...this just dawned on me... I am going to call the airline to see what their policy is on a missed flight. (I guess I'm still willing to live a little dangerously.) Also, there are 2 non stops out of FLL. One is around 7 pm and is only $88! Would have to get a day room.

Regarding your flight. Unless you are on a full fare ticket you will have issues with a missed flight and the ticket could have no value if you miss it. I suggest you look at what kind of ticket you are buying. A cheap non-refundable ticket has a lot of restrictions, a full fare ticket does not have the same restrictions but will cost 2-3-4 times as much. Buying a same day ticket is not a cheap option.

  2. I would strongly suggest that you rent wheelchair from Care Vacations . They are around 125 for a week. It will be delivered to your stateroom. These ships are long. NCL has them for embarkation, but not for daily use.

Another option is Amazon. I bought a lightweight wheelchair for my mother and it is shipping to our hotel in Miami this Friday, $97, I have Amazon Prime. If we feel like dragging it home we will, otherwise we will just leave it behind at the airport. I have done this many times with strollers for my son, I just hate having to check a cheap stroller when flying.

  3. You can also call NCL and have wheelchair assist added to her e-docs. I did that for my mother who is traveling with us this weekend. My mother does not need a wheelchair all the time but she is 95 and it helps with getting her through the airport and cruise crowds.

We also have an issue with the check-in, out of our party of 11 she is in term C and the rest of us are in term B. NCL will not change that but did tell us to inform the agents at the terminal and she would be allowed in with us in term B.

  4. I know this is a bit of a smart a$$ answer.

Every cabin can be a single, just because NCL sells cabins that hold 2-3-4-5-6 does not mean you have to go with the clown car model that they sell. You know putting 4 people in a room that is 220 sq ft. I just booked my mother on a cruise, yes it was a late booking but she has a 7 day cruise with a balcony cabin for herself, $745.

  5. Sure picking your room is the way to go. BUT, no one here has said anything about the price point on each. We just added someone to our sailing next week and the sail-away balcony was 1/2 the price of choosing a room. $750 vs $1300. The balcony that was assigned when we booked this last week is in a great spot. Yes we got lucky but money talks and only you can decide if it is worth it to you.

  6. You are entitled to your opinion but it does not matter to me if NCL profits from this. What matters is that more people will be able to enjoy their cruise by eating at times they prefer.

This will continue in other ways to increase revenue for NCL. Airline ancillary revenue is in the multi-billion dollar range each year now for all airlines, excluding Southwest. NCL is going to jump on this bandwagon and make money. I think NCL Latitudes Platinum members will get a break and others will pay just like airline frequent flyer programs. I think you will see baggage charges, fees for preferred group numbers at boarding, reservation charges for dinners and show. Just look at how the airlines have gone out and done it. Do you know what kind of benefits high level frequent flyers get, upgrades for free, best seating in coach for free, airline club access, free food and drink on the plane. All things most people pay for. Ancillary revenue is the new trend.

Senior corporate leaders are all about making Wall Street happy, the stock price, not the customer. It is the trend within the travel industry and it will continue.

  7. For something like Sling TV you will need to set up a VPN. Sling TV will block access from IP addresses outside of the USA. I have not tried from a ship yet but I will let you know in a few weeks how it goes for me.

VPN's are easy to set up and some software is free but for better performance you will need to spend a little money on a VPN.

  8. I stayed in one on the Getaway last year.

The second thing is that the rooms right above you are the extended balcony rooms so the rooms are a bit shorter then yours and as a result their extended balcony (which is smaller then yours) is right above where you sleep so in the morning all we heard is the people on top of us moving their table and chairs etc...VERY loud and annoying.

Not so sure about this, the outside doors are all lined up in the same place looking at this picture.

  9. When my wife was a Green Card holder we always checked with the country we were visiting on the rules for passport/visa. I would bet money if you call NCL 5 times and ask the same question 5 times you will get at least 3 answers that are not the same. You have multiple parties involved here, the USA, the home country passport, the country visited and NCL can set there own rules. You need to check with each before you travel.

Never leave the USA without your Green Card. Traveling on an expired Passport, not sure about that but it would seem that it is expired and has no use or value, that is why it has an expiration date.

I know many people on a cruise travel without a Passport but I think this is very risky to do. If you ever need to return to the USA, emergency/health via a 3rd country it will be a very expensive and delayed trip without that Passport. The chances are small that this will happen but it can and does happen. For adults Passport fees average less than $13 a year for the life of the Passport, 10, years and a little more cost per year for under age 16. Many think they do not need this and they spend thousands on cruises.

Do you want to trust others or do good research for yourself?

This is just my opinion, everyone is free to do what they think is best.
