  1. I am not sure if you will enjoy being Florence in a few hours only having to leave. It’s worthy of at least four days and better off as a land vacation mixed in with small Tuscan towns.

We are on the April 2019 Pursuit from Lisbon to Barcelona and are excited about seeing Lisbon.

I would agree to go on the cruise with the F1 race

  2. Florence is too far from the ports and a nice day in Lucca would be a great fit. Nice flat medieval city with a lot of charm.

You could rent a car or hire a car in Civitavecchia and drive to Orvieto which has a large parking lot and than a tram ride up into the town. We caught the tram and than caught the bus to the other side of the town and walked back towards the tram.

  3. It helps if we know your budget

The OP should look at what they want to see and do first before deciding where to stay. They need to figure out what is important to see and how far it is to travel.

For first timers that have i would suggest Soho. My wife and i like the Soho area because there are so manny places to eat and drink at night or during the day. We stayed at the Nadler Soho a yer ago and going back this spring.

Also suggest the OP goes to Trip Advsior and do some research.

  4. And I reserved an aft balcony - so I'm very excited!

First time ever travelling to Europe. First time on Jewel.

We are going September 9, 2018 on the Italy/Greek Islands 9 night. Any advice? Recommendations?

Advise - watch the rolls calls for May 2017 which there are 3 cruises [emoji568] which are doing the same ports of call. May give a you a good idea about tours

  5. what it "white night'? First I have heard of it. We are going in May for the Greek Isles Cruise on the Jewel. Also....we were scheduled for the 6:00 pm dinner option each night was this a good choice?

This was taken from the Luxury Sister Line "Azamara". But since Azamara is smaller more people participate and its the big BBQ night on deck

There are only 2, 650 person ships Azamara Quest and Journey

  6. Have been keeping an eye on an upcoming sailing on Anthem of the Seas. Noticed there was one DO stateroom available, but also the GTY. The day I jumped and bought in with the X GTY there were no more balconies in the inventory. It's been like this a few days now and no assignment. Has anyone had this before? I'm thinking maybe they upgrade D+ or Pinnacle and then slip us in somewhere? Or maybe they're shrouding available inventory to get suckers like me to book? Curious on thoughts/experiences out there.

So I am curious what happen to you and what cabin type you were assigned? We have the same circumstance as you did.

    Thanks

  7. good to hear about the Hangout app and great info Kingpin.

So my question is we get VOOM SURF + STREAM Voyage Package - 1 Device for each person are we allowed to switch off between a iphone and a ipad?

Say if I turn off (disable) my Ipad and switch to the IPhone will that work?

I rather not be caring a Ipad throughout the ship.

  8. The problem is most of the time the Azamara 7 day cruises leave on weekday and you have to use more vacation days. Also I rather spend a few extra days in Athens or Rome therefore it become 9 days. I could do a 9 day but the port departure would have to be a Friday.

We are booked next June for a 7 Greek cruise, and the ship leaves Wednesday you spend Monday or Tuesday traveling. And than the next week all day Wednesday traveling getting home on the following wed or Thursday. That's a lot of time for a 48 / 52 age couple to take off with two careers.

Also what if we get on the ship and do not like it? Never been on Azamara so if we hate it I rather it be a week instead of 9+ days. But I do like the concept of Azamara of long days in ports, since others line spend so little time just wanting to get you back on the ship to spend more money.

I guess its what your use to and I have so much experience planning my own travel using sites such as TA. We do travel on a budget so more days mean more expense. If you are able to spend more than 8 days on a ship I envy you that you are able to do this.

I am already looking at maybe doing a March 17, 2018 cruise out of San Juan, PR since that would be right on my 50th b-day! I am hoping next year on the Quest that some sort of real good deal can be found

  9. :)Hi -- anyone stayed here ?? What is the sq. footage ?-- is there a separate shower ? Thanks.

You need to click search this thread and type in the stateroom. If you look down 4-5 post from your ordinal question there is a pdf spread sheet and the cabin number is listed.

there is a review from Aug-2012 that does not recommend the stateroom

Also this thread is only for cabin reviews not questions, so please post on the main Azamara thread not this sticky

  10. Today as the ship had cancelled the excursion we wanted and as I was still suffering from yesterday's "little incident" we stayed in town. We noticed no tour or taxi providers on the pier so opted for a short walk. We are docked right at the bottom of the Main Street so five minutes walking (first right as you leave the port and first left) brought us to the lovely canals of Livorno and oh joy of joys the indoor market. We bought great dried pasta and olive oil gifts at a fraction of the souvenir shop prices (and probably far better) and loved walking around with the natives. This was a small consolation we had wanted the chefs tour here but they withdrew it (they have withdrawn all the chefs tours thus cruise which is a disappointment, the Chef had been expecting them to happen so no idea what's going on).

Anyway back to our walk out, I was so happy to find the market by chance and enjoyed my time ashore. It was not what we had planned or wanted, but it was good nevertheless

That's a nice surprise and so not touristy. Like the pictures!

  11. We were not able to have our first choice plans for either day in the port but went for compromises. Today it was the 10 hour trip that did Florence and Pisa but no lunch (great idea as included lunches never work for everyone). Well it was as well the ship did not sail that night, we were over an hour late back.

Would I do thus tour again?

Unless seeing the original David is a must I would say no, we arrived at Florence just after 10 and left around 1430, but over an hour was in a line to get into the Accademia. Even though the tour has prebooked tickets that does not guarantee the entry time. As a result the rest of the walk through was very rushed, not a lot if time for photos. We did have 90 mins for lunch - would have been less but we left the leather factory demo by not even joining it but telling the guide we would be back at the allotted time after lunch. We did not go to the restaurant the guide was encouraging us to book, I've no idea if it was better or not but we went into a lovely place on the same Santa Crocce Sqaure and had fab 8 euro made to order pizzas.

In Pisa they were using a little train to get you from the bus lot to the Tower. This does need a health advisory as it throws and bounces you a lot, not good for back sufferers. There was also a big safety issue which means my back and hip was further affected but I'm leaving that in the hands of the ship, it's not for here other than to say be careful getting off.

In summary I'd personally look for what we had originally planned - an in your own trip- if back in these two places but we did see what we set out to see.

I never understand why people do not take the advice of not doing a day trip to from Livorno to Florence or cruise ships offer this. Florence is city that needs at least 3 days, but even adding Pisa is insane. Lucca is a great choice and easy to get to and walk around. Other option is to rent a car and go to Volterra

  12. We are off the July 5th cruise, but hopefully getting on the one for June 21st for the Greek Islands. My only concern with the $500 OBC is it restricted only to Shore Excursions as our $300 is? Or can we use them for dinning, booze, spa, or shopping?

We still really want to go on Azamara!

Okay we moved to June 21, 2017 and we hope interior cabin 6011 is okay :)

Do not plan on spending so much time there, and we are good with the $500 extra OBC that we can use for anything , except for the casino which is understandable.

  13. 193 When you look for parking go to the northside of the wall (town) and there is more empty spots in Lucca. I would not drive to Florence with a car because your rental will be ticketed going through a ZTL zone or worse towed and left stranded. Ask the experts at tripadvisor. A alternate would be Vinci, Italy for Leonardo DaVinci. Good luck!

  14. Does that indicate another unhappy customer?

I love the added ports (Croatia), but this puts my wife in a tough place with work and family taking that many days off. I am upset because I would have swapped for the Equinox but that is being moved.

So how do they work it out when they extend the cruise and the price goes up? Are they expecting me to pay the difference of about $1000-1200? My TA checking on this and I am waiting to hear.

I swap out for the July 12th cruise, but 3 night in Venice seems to be a little excessive.
