  1. I'll definitely be giving them a call.  I should have mentioned that we've got a decent amount of experience cruising with NCL and having special needs.  We regularly get an accessible room and rent a scooter for my wife.  Her needs are changing.   Thanks for the quick response, hallux.

  2. It definitely is after final payment...Ok, waiting to hear back from my agent...

You could try a room upgrade instead but it's the luck of the draw I'm afraid. If the price went up they wouldn't expect you to ring and offer to pay more. If it's after final payment you may not have any chance.

  3. So, I'm sailing soon and got an email from NCL that lists the cabin category I'm in and the price is about half of what I've paid.

Has anyone had any luck getting NCL to honor the cheaper price? My roommate called and they said, sorry, it's policy, we can't do anything about it.

Anyone know any better way to approach this?

  4. So, yeah, I will first confess I haven't read this whole thread since I just got back from the Dawn.

The ONLY downside to the whole reef event(from a passenger's perspective) was that the media blew it out of proportion. I was on one of the fore facing verandas at a sail away party when this all went down.

The ship looked like it was going to hit the buoy that was defining the reef boundary. Apparently, there was a steerage problem. The captain apparently threw the ship into reverse in order to "soften the blow" which it did. It was as calm a stop as I've ever felt.

We had debated not telling anyone back home in order not to worry them. That got thrown away because the media blew it out of proportion. Here was Norwegian's response:

    A) Provide free phone call home to tell loved ones.

    B) Give us an extra morning in Bermuda (they didn't need to let us off the ship)

    C) Give us a 15% discount on a future cruise

    D) Give us free rum punch and beer yesterday (not ALL day, but a good portion of the afternoon)

    E) Get us home in time.

On top of all that, the president of NCL flew to Bermuda to get on the ship and address concerns. Bottom line - it was, from a passenger's perspective, no big deal.

  5. What we've done in the past is to forward all our calls to a Google Voice account and then check that using the internet on the ship. If anyone leaves a voicemail, it tries to transcribe it, but you can also listen to the audio over the computer.

  6. I don't believe that'll be a big deal as my wife is able to walk, just not for long periods of time and very slowly. So, if she had to get out of the scooter so we could better maneuver it into the stateroom, I'm fine with that.

The bigger question is whether or not we'd be able to put it somewhere in the stateroom that's not blocking the bathroom! :)

  7. We know we can rent one up here at home and bring it with us, but we want to do that as a last resort. We don't own one, but with the amount of walking, my wife is WAY better off with a wheelchair.

To the first reply, we KNOW we can call medical supply companies, but I was hoping that someone had already had some experience with a reputable one and could recommend one.

  8. We've got an upcoming cruise out of Tampa in early March and my plan is to rent a wheelchair in Tampa for our cruise and then return it in Tampa when we get back.

Anyone have a good resource that would preferably deliver and pick up from an area hotel? Scope of cost?
