Sad and silly to hear about the bathing suit required signs posted on the Jade.  I will stick to wrapping a towel around when I walk and sit on it in sauna, maybe one covering my lap just to satisfy the prudes.

My last cruise on the Gem there were no signs but will see if they are on her as well my next Gem cruise in November.

Last Gem cruise there were no signs but 90% of all guys wore trunks anyway.  Me and one other guy sat on towels, another couple guys would wrap towels tightly,  everyone dressed for the pool!

I got several odd looks walking from shower area to the sauna nude while carrying a towel to sit on and one around my neck for perspiration.  I am used to gym locker where everyone is nude (or maybe has a towel) from the moment they head from locker to shower to sauna/steam and back again

The Gem sauna was nice but boring, great place to just think in silence as rarely anyone there and when there was another guest(s) using the facility there was no chatting/small talk etc over the entire 11 or 12 day cruise.  Guys would keep to themselves in awkward silence. Wasn't until the final night, in the free steam room in the gym locker did I bump into a nice gent and finally got to relax and enjoy a friendly chat.

Hoping for the best for next Gem cruise!

When are your next cruises? Would love to cruise when others that love the steam and sauna are as well.

I was on the Legend back in 2017 and will be on her this September to Hawaii/Los Angeles and next June on her Transatlantic voyage.  The men's steam and sauna are not huge but there was never that many in there to take up much space.  I remember a window looking out in the from the sauna but not in the steam room but could be mistaken on the steam.  The steam room, at that time, did seem to shut itself off and it didn't seem like it was that much of a priority for the attendant to get it back in steamy order.  The sauna did seem to put out a decent amount of heat.  I rather enjoyed the spaces.

I’ll also be on the Legend September 26 from Vancouver to Hawaii to LA and the Transatlantic next June as well. My favorite thing on the Legend is the Steam and Sauna so I look forward to seeing you there!

  3. Many years ago I decided to take my parents on a Princess Cruises Panama canal cruise from Acapulco to San Juan, PR. Prior to this we had only gone on Summer 7-day Caribbean cruise on RCI which we thoroughly enjoyed. Well, about two months prior to the Panama cruise my mother got sick and she couldn't go and my dad didn't want to leave her, but they encouraged me to go ahead without them. So I flew down to Acapulco and boarded the ship to find out most of passengers were 65+. I was 29 years old. I stuck out like a snore thumb. It was nothing like the Caribbean cruises and I wasn't aware that Panama cruise catered to mostly older people. I was devastated. I was so depressed I considered getting off in Costa Rica and flying home. Well, I was fortunate to sit at a nice dining room table with lovely people who sort of took me under their wing. A retired British couple from California, a 40 something tour leader from a travel agency who was hosting a large group onboard and two older sisters from Orlando Fl who were a complete hoot! I don't think we all laugh so hard. During the cruise I did meet a gay couple in the casino which I ended up hang with in port. I also hooked up with one of the entertainments onboard...I'll say nothing further on that. LOL ;) Going through the Panama Canal is really a bucket list items and the ship and food as I recall were fabulous. Top notch. Moral of the story: It ended up as one of my most memorable cruises. You just need to understand what you are getting yourself into. The longer more exotic cruises tend to catered to a very mature crowd. Yes, you might find a few people your age...but not many. Don't expect a packed disco and by 10-11PM the ship get pretty quiet. But who knows you might end up having a great time. As far as booking a cruise & fares...best to find a good travel agent that specializes in cruises. You can search for authorized HAL travel agents in your area thru HAL's website. Given them a call and see what they say. Doesn't cost you anything. Hope this helps.

I am going on my first HAL on the Premiere Voyage of the Nieuw Statendam from Rome to Fort Lauderdale in December. It's been quite a long time since we've chatted, send me a message. Still in Orlando here :cool::cool:

  4. Said Id never sail carnival again but got a killer deal on a spa cabin on the Dream.... anybody have any details about her facilities???

I had a Spa Cabin last year on the Dream and the amenities were nice. The Steam Room is single sex and is located in the Men's locker room. Quite small and the steam is unpredictable at times. It has 3 benches and holds about 6-7 guys.

The Sauna is co-ed and while ok, not very convenient if you like to just wear a towel.

The Cloud Nine Spa area has a second mens bathroom with plenty of lockers and a couple private showers. There is a relaxation room with ice water with lemon and fresh fruit throughout the day. The Persian garden has 2 co-ed steam rooms, one with benches and one with heated tile loungers. There is also a common area with about 8 heated loungers. Being in a spa cabin is the best as they give you a rubber type wrist band to wear for the week like the LiveStrong bands.

    Enjoy!

  5. The Steam Room is my favorite place on the ship to relax and get some release from the stress of the day. I have booked the Spa cabins on the Dream and Magic and cannot wait. There is no better pleasure than being in the sauna and steam room and getting away from it all. Great company as well! ;)
