  1. It is a blast! We rented a small Boston Whaler from Somerset Watersports and they were great. We got the map and the bread, went to the Vixen and fed the fish, then went to several secluded beaches and snorkeled. They give you a cooler and ice, so we brought a bottle of wine and some plastic cups we brought from the ship. We ate lunch at Woody’s ️ tying right up at their dock, went under the Worlds Smallest Drawbridge, and whipped around Hamilton Harbour getting a good look at all the activity in preparation for the America’s Cup (which was the following year). It was worth every penny, and easy to get the hang of. My tip is to bring snorkel equipment from home, and we connected with friends we made in our roll call who remain friends and cruising buddies to this day. We rented for four hours, we might go for longer next time.

We also booked via Somerset for later this month. Are these placed you went to recommended via their map? Or did you do your own research before you got there?

  2. Hello. I grew up in Western NY, and now live outside of NYC. I made this drive on the regular for years. From Buffalo, I would highly recommend taking the 90 East, to the 690 south (just outside of Syracuse), to the 81 south, At Binghampton, take Rt 86 (former Rt 17).

From there I am not sure which way it will take you to get to Cape Liberty. I would highly recommend the Waze app from here. I use Waze (free traffic app) literally every day commuting in the NYC suburbs. It updates real time so if you're looking at traffic and weather, this will give you the shortest route. Lake effect snow is just around the lakes, so the further into NY you get, the less of a chance. It's all dependent on weather.

  3. My husband and I are sailing at the end of May. We'd like to do a Whale Watching tour and hike Mendenhall. We will be in Juneau 5/25, a Wednesday 12:30pm - 10:15pm.

I'm thinking of doing Mendenhall first, as I am assuming they aren't going to be open late. Then doing a Whale Watch that leaves late afternoon.

We'd like to book privately, not through the ship. I'm looking at Harv and Marv and M&M Tours. Anyone taken these? Any tips or recommendations. I'm also open to other suggestions! Thanks in advance!
