  1. We are sailing the Getaway in a couple of weeks. This is our first time on the new Bigger NCL ships. I reserved dining each night in one of the restaurants. My questions center around the 3 MDR Tropicana, Savor, and Taste -

    1) Do they serve the same menu in each of those restaurants on the same night? Meaning, I assume the change the menu each day, but is the menu the same in all 3 places on that particular night?

    2) If we happen to like the atmosphere in the Tropicana for example, can we just dine there each night instead of going to Taste or Savor where we reserved ahead of time?

    3) I left 1 evening open without booking or reserving a time slot - Can I just show up at one of the main places and get on a list or ask to be seated if the have the availability?

    Thanks for the help.

  2. That has been discontinued.

Are you sure? I read in another Post recently that it happened on their Getaway Cruise. I was looking forward to this on our cruise coming up at the end of this month.

  3. Harvest Caye replaces Belize City, not Roatan. You will still dock in Roatan and have full access to the island.

Dang - I completely got mixed up on my questions. Thanks for the catch - You are correct and the original question I needed answered was can I find another provided to get me to a dive site, which apparently is not going to happen with Harvest Caye. As for Roatan, if I understand you - I will still be able to get a taxi to other parts of the island for Diving. Thanks - sorry about the confusion

  4. Need to get some questioned answered about Harvest Caye. We have always cruised to Roatan with Carnival in the past. (Mahogany Bay) I normally book a Scuba Diving excursion off ship with a local dive resort (Barefoot Divers) - Will I still be able to do this with porting on Harvest Caye? Can I get a Taxi from Harvest Caye to a different part of the Island? What can you tell me about Harvest Caye?

  5. Quick question regarding carrying on 2 bottles of Wine. I know in the past you were allowed to carry on 2 bottles of wine. Has this changed? We were on a Disney cruise a few weeks back and it was not a issue, and we have done this in the past on NCL, RC, and Carnival. We are not huge drinkers but do enjoy a glass in the room before dinner. Has anyone had issues recently?

  6. Yes, It is important that you educate yourself about the cruise using resources available like tips and tricks stickies on boards, research other social media sources and use the Disney Cruise Line website to gather information about your cruise first.

These boards exist to provide a resource to discuss and ask for more information about certain intricacies and experiences, not to provide information that is openly available to the cruiser or replace a good TA, as opinions on here, by their nature, are biased by the opinion of the author.

The cruiser needs to be knowledgeable about the product and form their own opinion first and ask questions afterwards as otherwise they may be lead to believe that they will have the same experience as another poster.

Just a quick glance at the review section can show how one cruiser found so many deficiencies and problems on their cruise, yet another on the same cruise had the best vacation of their lifetime.

Some read too much into the Pixie Dust on Disney cruises and then are disappointed when something special they read about happened to another poster, but not them. Those that didn't read the small print or realize about a policy.

Everyone here hopes to help and inform, but not mislead, because their opinion is just that. Their opinion. And the better informed you are from research first and questions later, the better set up and prepared for your cruise IMO.

Yes - Thanks Ex-Techie, as mentioned, We have cruised over 20 times and have been on Cruise Critics boards for many years, so we understand what we are asking for and the information we get back. We also explore as you mentioned, other available information. We like the info we get back from CC, because we are getting in many cases people's opinion or experiences, which we can then choose to take what we need from that information.

  7. Hi,

My Wife and I are avid cruisers. We have been on over 20 Cruises, but none on Disney. We are 40 / 50 without kids. We are traveling with her family for this mini vacay, and that is what brings us to sail the Dream in January on DCL. We are pretty simple, in that we like a good meal / snack, we like to lounge on deck with a book and some music, and once in a while take in some live music at night. What I am looking for is any information I can get about what make DCL special or different, and any tips, tricks, or do not miss. I heard they have Fireworks off the boat at night? Awesome!! What else?

  8. Looking for info on how to handle Rome for a pre-cruise. My wife and I are taking a 7 day cruise out of Rome in August. We have both been to Rome before and Love it. We have done the major Tour things back in 2012 (Vatican City, Colosseum, Etc. - This time around we should have about a day and a half to explore. We will fly into Rome early morning and if memory serves me, the port is not close to Rome city center, so in a perfect world I would love to go from the Airport to Rome, and stay in a hotel near the action, and then find our way to the port the following day. Can anyone advise of their thoughts or experiences please. Looking for feedback and Ideas.

  9. Wouldn't you know that we forgot our duct tape? We just got back from our Eastern sail on the Sun! We had 2 chimney's for neighbors...and their smoke poured through our connecting door. It was almost like they were sitting in our room with us! Sun staff came and duct taped the connecting door and left us an air purifier! It really helped a lot but our thoughts of sleeping with the balcony door (aft balcony) were immediately dashed. Everytime we opened our balcony door, all the smoky smell from the hallway was sucked into our room. I will admit we are awful smoke snobs (ex-smokers)..but to pay good money for an aft balcony and then to be continually compromised by our neighbors smoking. Why do they not have non-smoking ships or at least non-smoking cabins?

All in all the cruise was great. The passengers were very old..70's and 80's...maybe only 10 kids on board! Breakfasts were good (though the Sun mueslix is not the same mueslix on the POA), lunches were almost mediocre, dinners ok...Moderno was great, Teppanaki was great. Juggler was good, dropped a lot...Elvy the singer was outrageously loud...the NCl singers/dancers were very good...better than most cruise ship groups. Weather was cold on just 2 of the days...The ports of St. Thomas and St. Maarten were wonderful but busy. We got a great deal on a wedding ring for my husband at Cardows in St. Thomas. Snorkeling at Sapphire Beach was great. Bernards tour in St. Maarten was a great time...lots of fun and lots of drinks! Walking tour in Nassau was very nice, Queens staircase was amazing! I wish I had brought my own blow dryer....the Sun has really old dryers...whereas the Jewel and POA have great dryers.

Anybody have any questions I can answer? So sad it is over so soon!

We leave next weekend so I would love to see any pictures of the ship you have and tell us more about St. Thomas and St. Maarten. I would like to know more about Moderno.
