  1. The original intent was to be non-smoking. There was significant backlash and loss of casino revenue as well as pressure from their casino partners. So they changed it.[/quote

I meant they (NCL) resolved the smoke in the casino issue on Epic by putting a few air purifiers (normal store bought air purifiers) in there....worked great!! I don't know if they still have them on Epic but it sure would be worth the couple of $$$ to place a few on all the ship's casinos :D

  2. The smoke/smell was a huge issue when the Epic first sailed as well, don't forget smoking WAS allowed on the balconies then so disbursing the smokers all over the ship isn't the way to resolve this issue. NCL put air purifiers all around the casino area and I thought it worked! I wonder why they don't do that again...

  3. Where does it say that the dividers (partitions) be closed?

This speaks only of the materials that the dividers (and other balcony furnishing) are composed of, not how they should be arranged.

SOLAS, like most laws and conventions, is dated and sometimes lags behind the development of the industry. The idea that there could be large external areas that run along the sides of ships (rows and rows of balconies), and consequently outside of the fire zone divisions, developed fairly recently. Star Princess demonstrated that having combustable materials on balconies, without adequate fire control measures, was extremely dangerous. Changes were made to the materials, but, again, where does it say that "partitions must be closed at sea"?

Could all of this been in effect when they allowed smoking on the balcony? personally, I can't see how that divider would deter any sort of fire! I honestly thought they were just a privacy screen

  4. Ok...just went back to the Plan and Explore site and found the regular price for the Supper Club is $35.39/pp. By using one of our SDP meals, with upcharge, we are paying $40.40/pp-- extra $5.01!!! I am thinking about calling Customer Service and having them remove it, book Cagney's under the SDP then pay the regular amount for the dinner show.

Lesson for anyone else booking with SDP, book your restaurants first if you don't want to use one of your SDP meals and pay more for the Supper Club!!

That's what I thought! Thanks for the info!

  5. We paid $17.20/pp on top of 1 day of our 3 day SDP so comes to about $40/pp. I don't know what the cost would be if you don't have UDP/SDP

I don't have a problem paying an up charge for the Supper Club if I use it as one of my SDP nights, my question is : what type of seating do you get for the up charge? if its entry level seats ($10-$15pp) wouldn't it be more economical to just book it separately? now if its VIP seating that you get for the up charge, that's a different story :D
