  1. At the same time, the prizes for winning need to be upgraded. You could have 50 people participating and the two or four winners would each receive a pen, keychain or luggage tag. C'mon RCCL, you can do a little better than that. Carnival offers their "ship on a stick." A butt of jokes, sure, but also a nicer souvenir than a pen. NCL offers points which can be redeemed for t-shirts or other nicer prizes.

Here's a plea for RCCL to upgrade their trivia experience with more trivia and better prizes!

Carnival also has bottles of champagne as a prize :D

I sailed Carnival Spirit May of last year and played the "Pub Style Trivia" every night after dinner. I won a bottle of champagne every night except one  ... funny thing, I hardly drink. I got to share with my table-mates and gave some away. I did also win a few "ship on a stick" from other trivia contests.

I've been sharpening my trivia skills for my upcoming cruise ... I understand what you are saying, but it isn't so much about the prizes. It is just about knowing you are smarter than everyone else ;) JUST KIDDING! I do enjoy it a lot. It is fun ... and a pen isn't such a bad souvenir

  2. We reserved this for the Allure in Sept, however, I didn't realize there was so many beef options. I am good with the chicken, lamb chops, pork loin, sausage even the filet mignon. My question is can you skip the meats you don't want? If not, we will cancel.

No, they put it on your plate and stand there making sure you eat it! ;)

    Sorry, couldn't resist. :D

Of course you can skip what you don't want. They come around with the meat on the stick (if the lite on your table is turned to green) If it is something you don't want, just say "no thanks" and wait for the next offering to come around.

The Brazillian restaurant where I live has chicken hearts as an offering. Now I am a pretty adventurous eater ... but I draw the line! When the hearts come around, I just tell them to keep on walking :)

Any veggies offered with that meat?

This is a ""Brazillian Steakhouse" meat is brought on a skewer and carved on to your plate. All the veg will come from the salad/ appetizer bar.

  3. Can you please tell me about what time the ship reaches Hubbard Glacier? I am just trying to figure out what time I need to finish breakfast and grab a spot on the helipad ... I will have aft 1104. I was hoping I could just stay out on my balcony :( but I think I will do what you did (and just head back when the ship turns)

  4. we were up on deck going into the glacier and as soon as they started to turn we ran back to our room and i have to say that was better open view and no heads to look over ( I'm not the tallest girl on the block :))

About what time does the ship get to the glacier? I was just wondering if I have time to go to the MDR for breakfast or if I should just order room service :)

  5. I have to say this was by far the easiest debarkation we have EVER had. They assigned everyone a time and place to meet. We had 7:20 in the schooner bar. We were down there by 7am and walking off the ship by 7:20.

    Jenn,

Did you request early departure? I was just wondering if they let you eat breakfast in the MDR (or if it changed since I last sailed RCI) I am spending 2 nights in Seward (2nd day I am also going on the MM boat tour :)) so I won't be in such a hurry to get off.

  6. Okay all you Bowzer groupies. Here is a little something to tie (or is it tide?) you over.

    IMG_1785.jpg

We were out watching the sunset....It was 11pm at this point. That is Bowzer in the green with the vest and one of his dancers behind him.

    IMG_1541.jpg

He is a nice guy. That is one thing I loved about this size ship. Everyone is more accessible and it is more intimate. Like I mentioned before with the cruise director and with Bowzer, we ran into each other and chatted a couple of times. Just like any normal passenger.

He did do a complimentary photo signing (of his old self). Our friends got one.

"His old self" ... That made me laugh!! :p Not exactly how he looked in the late 70's (or even when he was an original VJ on VH1) ... but I still love him :D (even though it looks like he should be wearing black knee high socks, sandles and shorts - if you know what I mean ;))

  7. I think the Grease sing a long is the original film with the lyrics shown on the screen. Sort of the old "follow the bouncing ball" films I can remember as a kid.

That's what I thought ... the Compass says it was out by the pool. Don't know how many people went to that (it might have been too cold) but it sure seems like FUN!

Now if Bowzar hosted the sing a long .... that would really make it! (He is in that movie too) :D

  8. Jenn,

Just saw that Bowzer was on your cruise!! :D Did you go??

I know that it is the cheesiest ... but I LOVE that kind of entertainer!! If I saw Bowzer in person, that would be one of the highlights of my life :o (My dream is to see Charro live, so that tells a little something of me LOL)

Don't judge me! LOL ... I am late 30's and grew up watching Bowzer (ShaNaNa) on tv :p

Oh, and there was a Grease sing a long too!!!!

I sure hope they have entertainment like this when I board in September!!! :D

  9. Thanks for the kind words!! :)

There was an idiot group that disgusted all of us Vancouverites and we hope a riot never ever happens again!! It was a 1 night crazy and we are back to normal now and welcome everyone to come see our beautiful friendly city!!!:)

    I can't wait!!

A cab would be $35+ CA from YVR but a cab can be better with more people. As $8 per adult adds up......and the cab takes you right to the check in area, which is a walk from the Waterfront Station with luggage, to the garage area under Canada Place.

    Hi CVU

I HATE to hijack this thread but your comment got me thinking about my own cruise I will be taking ... I will be staying in a B&B right next to Granville Island. The Sky Train doesn't really go there ... would it be cheaper to take the closest Train and then Taxi or just a taxi from YVR? I usually stay in the West End (last time was when they still had the airport shuttle bus)

Jennat, if it isn't too much trouble, could you please post the rest of the Compasses? I love looking at them. THANKS

  10. Don't be too excited!

I don't think we used many of our coupons. It is nice to be recognized, but the perks are just so-so IMHO. :o

While your opinion is perfectly valid ... isn't it nice to get anything at all? I am sure there are first time cruisers who are not eligible for any perks that would love to have a BOGO beverage! (especially with the prices that are charged!) 25% off a coffee drink isn't that bad either.

Sure, it may be a little thing, but let's not look a gift horse in the mouth ... anything is better than nothing! :)

  11. Silly question ... but has anyone tried using their BOGO beverage coupon for "fresh squeezed juice"? It would probably be cheaper for them, but not sure if they would be a stickler on this or not.

I am traveling solo and would much rather have 2 juices than 2 alcoholic drinks (and I have been doing real well on drastically reducing my soda intake)

  12. mbjonsn[/left];24761789]I carry a Vera Bradley backpack. I love it! It works for everything and its easy to wash when you get back home again. :)

I am also a fan of the Vera Bradley :D But I like the totes for cruises. My cruise last month I carried a Betsy and the cruise before that I used a curvey tote.

You can't beat the functionality of a VB ... PLUS they are gorgeous (Great deals can be had on Ebay too.)

  13. I had a filet and a lobster tail in the main dining room on the Spirit for NO extra fee! We had a res at the steakhouse but we ended up canceling it cause I saw no reason to pay for what I could get for free.

 I am sure these people realize they have options. No one on this thread asked if it was worth it. They asked a specific question.
