1. I am prone to getting seasick and I always take Nature’s Way Ginger Root 550 mg (1 in morning & 1 before bedtime) when I fly or cruise. Works like a charm with no side effects and it also helps soothe your tummy from all of the wonderful foods you will eat. I take Bonine as a backup but have never needed. Enjoy your cruise!

  2. Loved your story and it is great to hear what a wonderful time you both had. Thanks for taking time to share this wonderful memory with us. I hope that you continue to have many more years of happiness with your family. [emoji4]❤️

  3. Yes there is and it is quite wonderful. I would recommend going to the Greenhouse spa after you board the ship (and get settled) for options and specials. It allows you access to the heated loungers, hydro pool, and saunas. All spa services such as facials and massages are extra. It is pricey (around $150 pp for the week) but I used the spa daily so it was worth the splurge for me. Hope you enjoy the spa and the Oosterdam as much as I did.

  4. We have cruised to Alaska in September and had sunny weather and low to high 70s the whole time...cruised last month (July) back to Alaska and it was cool, windy, and drizzled most of the time. I enjoyed cruising in September most because it was less crowded on the ship and in the ports.

  5. Our 1st cruise to Alaska was 5 years ago with HAL the second week in September...we had excellent weather, great excursions, and everything was open and some shops had really good sales because it was preparing for the end of the cruise season. We cruised again 1 month ago (July2016) and it was high 50s to low 60s most of the time and drizzled a lot so you never know. I would not hesitate to recommend cruising to Alaska in September. Much less crowded as well.

  6. Something wrong here. No one else (including me) has ever reported seeing only a service charge posted. Also, doesn't matter when you booked the promo, it goes with the current rules (which is $8 and under right now). This is something you should have investigated while on the ship, but it's not too late to inquire now.

Thanks for the input and no one being critical. This was the first time having Explorer4 package and just thought this was how it worked. So every service charge ( the is one of the receipts that I have-kept them all) was on our final bill. I appreciate all of helpful suggestions and will look into this matter. Without you guys I would not have known. Thanks again.

  7. So.. you had a lot of little ~ $1 to $1.20 charges on your final bill? It should be easy to flag them and contact HAL's customer service to have them refunded.

Yes (that is correct) a lot of little service charges on our account from the beverage package. Our beverage package was from an explorer 4 that was offered almost a year prior to our cruise and our drink cost limit was $7.50 or under. We realized the charges to our account on the second day and kind of took the fun out of trying to go for 15 drinks a day because those charges add up quickly over a week. [emoji15]

  8. 15 drinks person is good. We don't drink a large amount of alcohol but we drink a lot of coffee, soda and bottled water. I am looking forward to trying some different cocktails, knowing that I can get something different if I don't like the first one. Is the 15% gratuity included in the explore 4 or will that be charged to our account?

Just off the Westerdam a couple of weeks ago and the 15% gratuity was not included on the Explorer 4 drink card but taken from OBC or charged to our account once OBC was used up.

  9. The reason I asked is that I live in a non cruising area, the idea of a cruise around here is a 5 ft rowboat in a creek. I get so excited when I book a cruise, I have no one to share my excitement with. So, participating in a roll call is very beneficial to me to gain insight and information on my specific cruise. I don't let non participants burst my balloon, as I have indeed met others on board to make a nice cruise, but it sure is nice getting information you can use or not!

I agree with you 100%. We sail 1 week from today on the Westerdam - I started a roll call about 9 months ago and we have about 6 people to join. I have seen people on our cruise (1st time cruisers) post a lot questions on multiple boards trying to find info on their cruise when it all could be answered in one place. No luck when they were asked to join the roll call. Also love the fact of sharing the excitement as you mentioned. Enjoy your cruise.

  10. We have cruised to Alaska in mid September and had fabulous weather (sunny & high 70s) but don't think that is the norm. We were in our late 40s at the time and were some of the youngest on the ship which was fine for us as we had a wonderful time.

I think you will meet many new friends if you have assigned seating or any time dining you will meet a lot of lovely new people.

I think HAL is a great choice for you and I hope you enjoy every moment.

We enjoyed our cruise to Alaska so much we are going back in 2 weeks on Ms Westerdam.

  11. This is a dressy tank top. IMO, Appropriate.
