  1. My partner and I were on Connie over Christmas and had a great time. Our ports were Ft Lauderdale-Key West-Cozumel-Ft. Lauderdale. We have previously sailed on Equinox and Silhouette, and are doing Reflection in a few weeks. The Constellation is smaller, but has been "Solsticized" with all new interiors, venues and amenities that you would see on the traditional Solstice class ships. We liked the more classic cruise ship style of Connie, including the outer decks that you could walk along without obstructing views from the lifeboats. Gavin called this the "Molly Brown deck" as I I think he imagined himself in a hoop skirt and hat strolling the Titanic.

Another thing we enjoyed more on Connie was the inside therapy pool which is a mineral pool with several spa-like features that the larger ships do not have. The main pool outside was deeper than the other "kiddie" pool, which kept thrashing children at a minimum if you wanted to take a dip. The rear top deck does not have the lawn or large seating areas that the Solstice ships have, but we didn't miss it much. Liked the theatre better too, as they had light up tables at each seat, which seemed classier than a bunch of chairs jammed together.

The only negative was the layout of our cabin that had the closet door right outside the bathroom door, so you could not open both at the same time. Guess that's what we get for not doing Aqua Class this time, as we had on previous cruises. Look at your room layout if this bothers you. In August, we were in Silhouette in Aqua, deck 11, room 1502, Starboard / Fore, which was right under the gym, and pretty noisy. Check out what is above you before booking. On our upcoming cruise, we are under the acupuncture rooms on deck 11, so probably only noisy if someone screams in pain, and only open during the day. Mid ship is best if the seas are rough.

Each night, the ship had an official "LGBT meeting" at the martini bar at 5:15 and 7:45 (see the events sign at guest relations). We went to the later one and met a lot of fellow gays, and basically took over the martini bar each night. Several other passengers seemed to recognize that we had made it a party spot, and it got busier each night, with a younger straight crowd who wanted to escape their families and "...hang with the gay guys, because you are cooler."

    Hope this helps!

  2. I recommend checking into a bike rental for the day - a great way to see the island and explore, and quicker than walking. Many rental places will deliver your rental bikes right to the pier if you arrange a time and location in advance. If you have time, we love the BluQ gay catamaran which does "Sandbar Sunday" which I think is the day you are there. http://www.bluqkeywest.com. About 5 hours, check the weather.

Many places to go for lunch...if you want to check out the gay scene, I also recommend Island House for lunch. Food is not bad, better than you might expect for a gay guest house with a disco ball-accented pool. We are going on "Connie" the week before you, same itinerary, and plan on spending the day at Island House by the pool, as we have been to Key West many times. Enjoy!
