  1. I pre-paid my gratuities to save approx $25 on the price of my cruise. I booked early saver so as the price of my cruise went down I applied for the lower price. This was granted but I now have to pay the higher gratuity price.

I was told that if you change your booking in any way you are no longer able to get the lower price for the gratuities. Hope this information is helpful to others.

  2. I don't see that there's anything wrong in expecting special treatment on a milestone cruise. After all how many can one person have?

Thanks to the good people on this board I knew not to expect anything special and they were right.

Worst possible guarantee balcony assignment. No special mention of it from guest services or anyone else. Nothing at the past guest party. This was from Long Beach.

  3. No. Just commenting on the fact that you were shocked that you'd have to pay the difference from a 7A to an (at least) 8A.

But when booking a guarantee that's the chance you take. Now, I wouldn't have expected a charge if you wanted to switch to another 7A.

If this cruise had been my 24th or 26th cruise I wouldn't have been disappointed in what I got. But as its my Milestone, I think they at least could have given me a regular balcony. I'm not asking for a suite for my balcony guarantee.

I wasn't shocked at what happened. I just tried what one previous poster suggested.

  4. I read on Carnival's FAQ page that I will receive a special Milestone Sail & Sign card. "We want to distinguish guests on their Milestone sailing with a unique card so that we can make his/her Milestone experience extra special and memorable."

I would be interested to hear from previous Milestone cruisers what Carnival did to make this experience extra special and memorable.

I booked a balcony guarantee for my 25th cruise. Just received my cabin assignment. Its an obstructed view balcony. Well that's a disappointing start.

  6. I phoned Carnival yesterday (Wednesday) for a 13 day cruise leaving on Sunday. I asked to be put on a list to be contacted if the price went down. I was told they don't have lists for that.

I didn't book the cruise as the price seemed high to me even though they are still showing rooms in all categories.

  7. Any guesses as to how this will affect the passengers getting off the ship that day? Do I need to book a later flight?

I am thinking it will have more impact on the people trying to board for the next cruise.

Sorry, just realised I get back on the 3rd.

  8. Yes, but his post looked like it was copied and pasted from somewhere.

I have a photo of the card that was in my cabin on Freedom, which I've posted here several times in many of the threads about the subject.

I hadn't seen anything, anywhere stating the price for the duration of the cruise had increased.

Didn't know if this was for JUST the longer cruises. And at what number of days you jump from being a "regular" cruise (mine was 8 nights and was $25 for the week) to being a "longer" cruise and $40?

Sorry. I thought we were talking about the 1st Journeys cruise.

  9. Where did this internet package pricing come from? Last I saw, the Social package was only $25 for the week. Carnival's site gives daily price but not for the entire sailing.

Did you copy and paste? A link would be nice (site your source so people can bookmark it if they wish).

Caribill's pricing is correct. One place to find it is on a flyer in your room when you board.

  10. One related comment on the shows, curious to hear if the other Allure 5/11s agree with me:

The number of seats they reserve in the Amber Theater for suite guests is asinine. Let me quickly add that I have no problem at all with them offering this perk for suite guests, I think it's a great benefit. However, the number of seats they're blocking off needs to be reasonable in consideration of the number of suite guests likely to attend. This was not so on the Allure. They were blocking off basically the entire middle section of the balcony in Amber theater, when, at most, 1 or 2 rows of suite guests (and usually fewer) were showing up to take advantage of these seats. They would then "release" this entirely empty section of seats at almost the exact same time that the standby folks were waltzing in, allowing all of them to take advantage of this prime seating.

IMHO this ridiculous situation penalized non-suite guests who made reservations and showed up as directed. Again, I have absolutely no objection with them offering this perk, but it needs to be executed better in the Amber Theater. I do not recall this issue on either of my Oasis sailings, where I think the amount of reserved seating in the Opal Theater was far more reasonable.

I totally agree with this. We arrived half an hour before the show started but were not allowed to sit there. One couple who arrived about 15 minutes before the show started sat there and were asked to move as they did not have gold cards. They refused. As it was only a few minutes before anyone could sit there nothing was done.

  11. Your TA should know that there is an upgrade option to only accept an upgrade to the next type cabin. With that option checked, you would not get an upgrade from an inside to an inside.

That's good to know. Thank you. I hope I get a different agent next time I phone as I did ask her if that was an option.

  12. I was looking at the cabins available on line for the cruise I booked a week ago and noticed that my inside cabin was showing as available. I got excited because I thought I had received an up-grade. I did in fact receive one but it was from category IC to IB. As I had spent a good amount of time picking out my original cabin I was not happy. Especially since the new cabin doesn't have cabins above it.

Although this will be my 22nd cruise (first one with Princess) it didn't occur to me that by saying I would like any upgrade I could also get upgraded within the same category I already had.

I have been in touch with my travel agent (first time I have used one) and she tells me that Princess have said it will be at least 48 hours before the paperwork will be done and I will know if I have my original cabin back. I have also had to state no upgrades which is a shame because an oceanview on a 28 day cruise would have been nice.

  13. We booked this cruise 2 weeks before the sailing date. Received an upsell call 8 days before sailing and went to a Grand Suite. It was my 20th cruise with Carnival.

Boarding was slow. Even though we were one of the first on the ship it was still 1.30 before we were sitting down and eating at the buffet.

I enjoyed the Epic Rock show. No live orchestra band but the 8 dancers/singers were very high energy.

Didn't think the Hasbro show was very entertaining. Left before it ended.

    Enjoyed the piano bar.

I didn't go on any Carnival excursions in the ports but went to the spa and had the Ionithermie treatment.

We had 6pm dining. The waiters did an excellent job even though some of our table mates were always late. It was gone 7pm one evening before they arrived.

For debarkation we put our luggage outside the room the night before. We went to the Xanadu Lounge the next morning as we were told to be there before 8.15 and a Carnival Team Member would escort us to the gangway. Well this didn't happen. The first we knew we could leave the ship was when we heard an announcement for zones 1-5. So now we are at the back of the ship, 2 floors up from where we are supposed to leave the ship and now behind non-platinum guests. When are you going to get this simple thing right Carnival? It certainly doesn't want to make us sail with you for the Platinum perks.

Overall it was a good cruise but I think I prefer the longer ones.

  14. What a great review. I have just had a spa cabin on the Splendor. I wish I had read your review before I left because I didn't know the relaxation room was for our use. I thought it was for people waiting for treatments. I also didn't know about the spa locker rooms and showers that were for our use only. I think I must have used the regular ones because the showers didn't look very different from the cabin except there was more room.

The layout looked very similar to the Splendor. I too thought it was strange that they gave us private access to the Spa but then we had to go to the front and wait in line to receive the wristband.

Luckily we did not have the problem with the doors. It was one handle only.

We also received 4 extra Elemis products in the room. A shampoo, conditioner, soap and a linen spray. These products were also not replaced although I only ran out of the body wash. I was the only one using them as my husband used the regular soap and shampoo that was in the shower.
