We were in the MDR, not the specialty restaurant. I do see your point about the advent of specialty restaurants impacting the MDR food. I don't mind paying maybe one night for a well known restaurant that is on board, but it would still be nice for those that aren't interested in these restaurants to have the same cruising experience as before. :rolleyes:

Ok, this was our first cruise with RCCL (on AOS) and I was shocked to find out that I would have to pay an extra $19.95 for filet mignon! The last time we cruised was 3 years ago on Carnival and this was not the case. Is this something that RCCL does or is this now standard across the board for all cruise lines due to rising costs?

They also placed a laminated picture/price board with 3 choices, filet, lobster or filet and lobster ( which was around $45!) on each table in the dining room which looked like Chinese take out menu- very tacky! Used to be that surf and turf were standard fare. We paid a lot of money for this cruise and was very disappointed in the food overall.

This was our first cruise on RCL also and I must agree that I was definitely "underwhelmed". Seems like all ever hear about is how wonderful RCL is, so I had to give it a try. Honestly, we chose the ship for the itinerary, which did not disappoint. The staff of AOS was wonderful, given what they have to work with. But as you stated, there were very few, if any things that I found better than any other cruise line I have been on.

I'm quite sure that all the new ships in any cruise line are "better" but for $2600 for 2 people, I was really disappointed with the quality of the food and the layout of the ship in general, not to mention that the toilets on our deck (7) keep backing up!

Next cruise will hopefully be to Europe as well. I too am surprised you took the leap of faith to stay with RCL for such a big trip! Personally I'll be going with another line!
