  1. This is one of my points as well. Some of the "strict constructionists" complain that a blazer and tie doesn't meet the Celebrity definition of formal. But for women, the Celebrity dress code says "cocktail dress, gown or dressy pantsuit." To many women, "dressy pantsuit" seems to mean any black pants and any "nice" or sparkly top. That is not what I consider a "dressy pantsuit." But do you EVER hear of a woman being busted by the Maitre D' for failing to meet the dress code?
I take it that you have never felt the wrath of a woman scorned lol......

Anyone who says to a lady that they are not dressed adequately doesnt expect to live long afterwards lol.

  2. I understand the propblem with aircraft luggage limits, however the easy way around this is to pay for the extra luggage. If you pre-pay for extra luggage it is cheaper and saves the problems of 'shall I take this, shall I take that, or rushing to the bathroom scales to check the luggage weight.

    Enjoy your upcoming cruises...

  3. I heard the title was going to be 'Domnica, my part in her downfall' :):) He did have alternative titles, Barnacle scrapping for fools and Navigation for plonkers !!!

(Maybe that should be 'Donmica, her part in my downfall') lol

  4. This is dated the 18th Mar and is from one of the companies who has put forward a bid to deal with the Costa Concordia.

They believe that they can lift her complete however it is going to cost in the region of $100m, as yet Costa are still undecided how to proceed.

Smit, who are presently removing the fuel from the Costa Concordia is a subsiduary of this company.

  5. Get rid of whom ?

You came onboard a little late, Davey. The captain's, officer's, dancer's and cruise lines' guilt or innocence had already pretty much been DECIDED and argued to death by the end of January on these threads.(and the ones that are now gone)

I sense you may be a little disappointed that Carnival/Costa is recovering from this tragedy very well. Learning from the 1Q report, that Carnival's bookings are UP from the same period last year and that most of the huge losses predicted by this catatastrophe were covered by insurance may be unsettling to you, but most cruisers are happy for both lines and wish this incident to be resolved in a fair and equitable manner for all parties.:)

Thanks but I was in it from the beginning if you check the back files. I am not upset in any recovery, far from it. As a round tabler I discussed the ins and outs of the whole disaster with others from this board. What I find hard to understand is why some people do not believe that Costa management are in any way liable for the actions of their capt, either directly or indirectly.

I, like many others, await the outcome of the trial, for me the Capt is guilty, its a case of seeing if they go for others who appear to be complacent in this incident.

My first posting on the Costa Concordia was on the 14th Jan at 07:35 number 10 so you cant say I wasnt in from the start.

  7. I'll wonder if it was an inside job, and how much other loot has been removed by the "official" divers?
Having received inside information I have been informed that it was definately an inside job......two individuals were seen lugging the bell across the field. One was described as having a tight bum and blonde hair, the other was a dark haired pot bellied man, shouting I tripped honest I tripped !!!!

  9. A recent press release regarding the Cruise Industry......

The last paragraph is Carnivals, bookings down in Europe and ok in USA.....

While European bookings have lagged, those among U.S. passengers have picked up again, said Carnival Cruise Lines President and Chief Executive Gerald Cahill.

"If you look at the volume of our bookings we had taken since the beginning of January through the end of February, we actually had more bookings this year than we did last year, and those bookings we took are at slightly higher prices than we did last year," Cahill said.

"It really has not been draconian at all ... I think the industry will weather this in the United States. I don't think we will get back as much pricing probably as we otherwise would have if this hadn't occurred and I think as we move into the future here we will continue to get stronger."

This needs to be a constant reminder of the Concordia until at least the end of the legal action, we must not let them off lightly

  10. Its now two months since the Costa Concordia hit the shoreline of Giglio after the rogue Captain tried to perform a 'sail-by' which culminated in the death of 32 persons.

We have seen some work being done on her, the removal of the fuel, however there is still a lot to be done to remove her from her present position. As yet there is still no concrete word on what is intending to happen to her, various speculation, but it is looking more and more like 'disposal'

I have noticed that there has been a marked decrease in the postings over the incident , the abandoning of the ship and the various aspects afterward. I for one do not wish to leg it cool down for Costa/Carnival as I feel they need to have a constant reminder of what they are responsible for, this should be maintained until the final outcome of the court action against, the Captain, any other officers and that of the Costa Management who I feel may be just as responsible for this disaster.

We should not forget those who lost their lives, especially the 5 year old child, we should make sure that all those responsible are aware that we have not forgotten

    Regards

    :)

  11. We need to await the 'release' of information from Carnival, not doubting your credibility but the press that reported it could have picked it up from anywhere, they might even have seen it discussed here and decided to go with it.

With so mething as big this I would expect Carnival to confirm it very quickly otherwise it could damage their 'profit' margins (Not that itsnt hasnt been hit already). Speculators could end up losing through their shares too !!

  12. This takes the Buscuit............How can Costa stoop so low !!!

Crew members who survived the deadly wreck of the Costa Concordia cruise ship in January have felt pressure to accept cash settlements quickly in order to return to their jobs, lawyers advising on possible claims against the ship’s owners have told the Financial Times.

Costa Crociere, the Carnival subsidiary that operated the Concordia, and Cruise Ships Catering International, a subsidiary that hired food and beverage workers, have offered crew members a payout for losses that also requires them to forfeit their right to claim psychological and physical distress from the wreck.

According to a copy of the settlement contract seen by the FT, the offer would cover personal money lost on board, personal items lost – up to a maximum of $3,750 – and pay for the remainder of their contracts.

“Most of the ones who have signed did not have the opportunity to review the terms or have the assistance of counsel,” says Monica Kelly, who represents crew member Gary Lobaton. Mr Lobaton has filed a suit in Chicago federal court against Carnival Corp and seeks class-action status to represent Concordia victims, crew and passengers. The suit seeks compensation for alleged breach of contract, negligence and unjust enrichment as well as punitive damages.

Ms Kelly, of Ribbeck Law, said some crew in Indonesia reported being told that if they hired a lawyer, they might no longer be rehired. “Our strategy is to challenge the validity of the release,’’ she said. She said she was planning to file further individual suits for crew members.

Costa Cruises and Cruise Ships Catering International said no crew were under pressure to accept a settlement. “On the contrary, we’re receiving requests from the majority of them to shortly return onboard our ships,’’ Costa Crociere said in a statement.

A statement from the company said that “issues relating to settlements are private between Costa, its customers, and crew”. No one from Costa had threatened or pressurised any member of crew, who were being treated fairly, the company said.

The company declined to say whether any crew who had not signed the release had been rehired and whether they had received their compensation.

More than 4,200 people were aboard when the ship hit rocks off the coast of Italy. Thirty-two people are reported dead or still missing.

One Indonesian crew member from the Concordia spoke to the FT on condition of anonymity and said he signed papers from the company but was not sure what he had agreed to. “My monthly salary of about $600 is a lot of money. I have to go back to work. But I am still traumatised.”

Marc Bern, a lawyer who has joined with Italian consumer association Codacons in pursuing negligence claims against Carnival in the US for at least $528m in damages, said his firm had been retained by about a dozen crew.

“These are individuals with some limited skill and are intimidated by a multi-million dollar multinational corporation. It’s David vs Goliath,’’ said Mr Bern, a senior partner at Napoli Bern Ripka Shkolnik.

Im sorry but I feel that Costa have gone beyond a joke on this one, its nothing more thank blackmail.

As the people who take the cruises onboard this companies ship it is up to us to make our voices known to Carnival and Costa of our disapproval and make them reconsider their actions regarding the pay towards the crew from the Costa Concordia. Why should the lower staff be penalised due to actions of the rogue Captain and mismanagement at Costa

Do you agree with telling Costa you dont agree !!!

  13. Is it within the realm of possibilities that the officers are simply telling the truth??
I never said they werent telling the truth, just that they are all watching out for themselves now. Its a case of everyone for themselves and dont worry about the flak or fallout...

Costa Concordia: Pre-trial hearing begins in Italy

Key information about the capsizing of the Costa Concordia cruise ship is being handed over to a panel of experts during a pre-trial hearing in Italy.

At least 30 people are believed to have died when the ship struck rocks off the Tuscan coast on 13 January.

Captain Francesco Schettino denies accusations of manslaughter, causing a shipwreck and abandoning ship before all those aboard were evacuated.

He will not attend the hearing, in the town of Grosseto, his lawyer says.

Bruno Leporatti said it would be "unnecessary" for Mr Schettino to leave his home in the town of Meta di Sorrento, near Naples - where he is under house arrest - to attend the hearing.

"Perhaps with this climate that has been created around him, [it would be] also a little dangerous for him," he said.

Panel of experts Mr Schettino's brother-in-law has said that the captain is feeling both depressed and scared as he watches the inquiry unfold, and that the deaths of those who did not survive are weighing heavily upon him.

His lawyer added that Mr Schettino was "stunned" by the accident.

He is a man who has feelings, who is pained over what happened”

    Bruno Leporatti Mr Schettino's lawyer

"He is a man who has feelings, who is pained over what happened," he said.

Some 250 people have gathered in a theatre in Grosseto that has become the venue for the hearing, according to Italy's La Repubblica newspaper.

The number is expected to swell further as 70 lawyers and their teams, representing survivors and relatives of victims, continue to arrive.

No journalists or members of the public are allowed to attend.

During the hearing, judges will question experts about the wrecking of the 114,500-tonne liner.

Investigators who have been amassing evidence and testimony since the crash will hand it over to a court-appointed panel of experts made up of two naval experts and two academics.

The BBC's Alan Johnston, in Rome, says these four will have the task of trying to reconstruct what happened and apportion degrees of culpability and blame. He says the process will probably take months.

The ship, carrying 4,200 passengers and crew, had its hull ripped open when it hit rocks in darkness, just hours into a Mediterranean cruise.

'I messed up' The company, part of the world's largest cruise operator Carnival Corp, has blamed Mr Schettino for the accident.

_58852716_013836603-1.jpg The ship's first officer, Ciro Ambrosio, is one of those under investigation

Costa Cruises has said it has "complete faith in the judicial system" and has offered its "fullest collaboration" with the Italian authorities.

The investigation will also look at the decisions and actions of Costa's vice-president, Manfred Ursprunger, and the head of its crisis unit, Roberto Ferrarini, with whom Mr Schettino was in contact during the evacuation.

The ship's first officer, Ciro Ambrosio, is also under investigation. An Italian newspaper, Il Fatto Quotidiano, has published a leak of an account said to have been given by the second-in-command to the inquiry.

In it, he says that Capt Schettino had explicitly taken sole command of the ship on the approach to the island. At the last moment, he realised he was too close and ordered a sharp turn away but it was too late and the ship hit the rocks.

Speaking in Neapolitan dialect, the captain is then reported to have said: "I messed up", according to the newspaper.

It reports that, according to Mr Ambrosio, Mr Schettino was reluctant to acknowledge the gravity of the crisis and was not truthful when the coastguard began demanding information.

  15. Many of the original posters that truly wanted to find verifiable information with sources and post this information for ALL TO DISCUSS,(several ship captains and maritime experts) have long since left these threads and topic alone. :(
The reason these left was because of the 'deleting of posts' by the moderators. The whole concept of a forum is for discussion and even though people dont agree they should let it continue.

The experts were putting their views over, some of these view did not meet the 'criteria' of CC and hence the post was removed.

CC along with other sites is run through the funding of the cruise lines and the bottom line is the 'buck pays here'
