True, but I believe that that is an attitude that develops over time, and is certainly itinerary-dependent.  If I were in the Caribbean and the ship missed St. Thomas, Nassau and Princess Cay, I'd 100% agree with this.  If I booked a cruise to cultural and historic places where I expected to go to Delos (Mykonos), Pompeii (Naples),  Akrotiri (Santorini) or the Acropolis (Athens) and the ship never made these ports, the "even if they cancel my ports" philosophy would be hard to bring to the surface.  For many, the Alaska itinerary is such an cruise.

I had the same attitude on our 14-day med cruise.  We had some itinerary changes due to weather and we rolled with it.  We missed the 2 days in Israel that triggered the initial purchase for us.... but we still went, we still had a grand time, and I'd have still been happy floating for 2 weeks (esp with that level of compensation)

...there was angst, anger and uncertainty, and that surely eats into the overall enjoyment...

We can't control our circumstances, only the way we choose to react to them.  You can have an angry outburst, or you can make lemonade.  I walk on to every cruise with the attitude "even if they cancel my ports and I have 14 sea days... I'm being waited on, entertained, and I don't have to work.  How bad can it really be?"  🙂   First world problems.  heh.

So are you missing something else on the way to Whittier?

    Original Itinerary was:

    5/11 Vancouver

    5/12 At Sea

    5/13 Ketchikan (skipped)

    5/14 Juneau (late)

    5/15 Skagway

    5/16 Glacier Bay (cancelled)

    5/17 College Fjord (cancelled)

    5/18 Whittier

So looks like they cancelled Glacier Bay & College Fjord (last I heard) to let them get to Whittier on time....

They are not far from each other so getting into Skagway should not be a problem.

Skagway may still be tough; they're scheduled to dock at broadway which isn't possible in windy conditions (especially if they're having propulsion issues to start with).  Maybe they'll tender (been there, done that after the rock slide), or let them swap berths with another ship given the circumstances.

I do hope future passengers have cancel for any reason insurance.

We opted to forego CFAW this time, unfortunately.  Even if there are issues, I'll board that ship.  I'm mostly looking forward to 2 weeks of being unplugged and not having to work.  We've all been to Alaska except 1 of my daughters, and we're doing a 14-day b2b so odds are good she'll still get to see some decent scenery, make a stop or two, etc.

I'm just concerned about our upcoming cruise and if Princess thought they had a handle on the repairs they wouldn't need to play it cautious. I hope we get notice in a timely manner if more changes are needed.

We're hauling the whole family (including 15-mo old) up to Vancouver from Kansas City for the 6/8 bwb 14-day, so also keeping an eye on things.  Hopefully they'll figure it out with several weeks between now and then, so I'm not terribly concerned.

Chances are you’d be on the water looking for whales for 2 hours with the whale watch/salmon bake and 3 hours with Harv n Marv.  If two hours is enough, do that one. I wouldn’t touch a salmon bake and would put the whale watching as the priority. Depends on your priorities.

What's wrong with the salmon bake?  or do you just not like fish?  🙂

  8. When booking the private transfer with Rome Cabs, how do you know what time to tell them to pick you up at the port?  E.g. ship arrives 6am (scheduled).  I don't know if we'll be able to get off by 7, or 8, or 9am.... never taken an EU cruise; all our US cruises they have "group number" and they announce when each group is allowed to disembark, etc.  So I really don't have much control (other than saying I'll carry my own luggage off to get in the first group).. but we still have to clear customs, etc.

I wouldn't worry about it. I doubt anyone is sailing out of the US in December 2020.

Yep, cancelled.  Too bad you don't the the +$600 OBC each time they cancel on you.  This is the 2nd in a row.  😞

Rich, I think you have an incorrect assumption there.  The cruise lines are selling cabins still because they are cash starved.  I hope you get to go on your cruise but as things stand right now the odds of that are slim to none and Slim just left the building.

    Worst case, I get another $1800 in OBC I guess ($600/room x 3 rooms).

  11. We booked a cruise in December 2020 with stops in Nassau, Freeport, & Princess Cays... I assumed if they're selling cabins they already had permission to port there?  If they're the only one porting there, you'd think that would be reflected on CruiseTT (or wherever they get the data feed from)...

  12. Does anyone know where to find current/future port schedules?  I used to use CruiseTT to see which other ships would be with us on a given day, to help plan excursions and avoid crowds, but they haven't updated schedules past May 2020.  I'm looking in December 2020....

    Thanks!
    Rich

  13. Has anyone used Pura Baja tours in Cabo?  They're offering whale watching tours for nearly half the other providers, which makes me a little nervous... .but I see a handful of good reviews on Help and Facebook for them, and a few small positive reviews on Trip Advisor as well.  I'm hoping someone here's actually used them and could pass on their experience...

    Thanks!

  14. Glad it worked out for you, but honestly, your situation is one of the reasons we always book direct.

I've taken 4 Carnival cruises, all booked through the same TA. He's ALWAYS beaten the best fares I can get from any other TA, or from Carnival directly. Never had any issues.... I'd be paying more booking directly with Carnival. No idea how that works, but it's always more when I check.
