  1. True enough, but it is quite easy to know the difference between a ship that is GOING 20 knots vs. 23 knots.... as long as you have a GPS, and a clear view of the sky! :D

    Theron

Or look at the TV when it's up. If that's what really concerns you then spend your vacation time measuring the speed at which you are traveling.

    I just don't get it.

    It's a VACATION.

  2. Thanks for posting live from the ship! Your pictures are great. Enjoy the time you have remaining!

I hope someone who is getting on the March 10th cruise will post live! I am booked on the 12 day leaving when that one gets back on March 19th so will be anxiously waiting for news on the repairs-or lack thereof:)!

YOU WILL NEVER KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SHIP THAT CAN DO 20 kts VS A SHIP THAT CAN DO 23 kts.

    It's not an issue.

    They like 15.

    They do 16-17 normally. (nominally)

Watch their patterns at night when moving from port to port. (marine traffic dot com) They PLAN and usually do 10 or less.

It's all $$$$ (Casino open and saving fuel)

Enjoy your crui$e and forget about the rest!

Please send me your address so I know where to send the bill!

  3. I am still working on my review. Here is an excerpt from today ...

Royal Caribbean is upgrading its lifeboats in the hope that it will get more people to attend the muster drills ...

I tried to leave just one picture but guess that didn't work. The yachts!

Good one. Maybe Costa should consider this upgrade!

That "side-by-side" shot kinda reminds me of a giant subway! The ENOS and the Pride pass close in the Chesapeake sometimes. Let me see if I can't find that video.

  4. Sudsy - I probably live 'relatively' near you down by PAX. I also have a friend who is part owner in a helicopter company and they have helicopters down in St Thomas, coincidentally his last name is Jenson. I wonder if he is related to the fellow you mentioned.

    -Julie

I bet it is. I worked at Pax and met my friend when he and the Yahoo Dude (Roy)were here doing some testing for the Navy at Chesapeake Beach. I have lost track of him and I guess he has changed his email address. Hopefully he is ok and doing well.

    Sudsy:)

  5. At 7:35pm when I last checked the ship's information channel, we were headed NNE at 19.2 knots. We had traveled 1950 miles and had 1331 to go until we arrived in Baltimore. To make it on time we need to average 16.25 knots. We are supposed to pick up the pilot at 8:30pm on Friday, so I guess the captain plans on flying through the bay.

First, you have done an outstanding job with this thread. Especially the photo's. I got so excited about the photo's that I almost bought a DSLR on the QVC network Sunday night.

The trip from Norfolk to Baltimore is about 7.5 to 8.5 hours usually depending on the tides and wind. (150 miles) So you are right on schedule for an on time arrival.

Sorry to see your trip coming to an end but not as sorry as all of you must be.

    Sudsy:)

BTW YOU ARE IN THE BERMUDA TRIANGLE RIGHT NOW!!!!!

  6. So I see your underway to Baltimore. Currently at 17.2 kts. You will slip away into the Bermuda Triangle and out of range for the tracker. Make the best of it. It's suppose to be close to 70 deg in Baltimore on Thursday and maybe just a little cooler the following few days but not too much of a shock. The weather at sea also looks good so have a great time and enjoy it while you can.

    Sudsy:)

You have now settled in at a good 18.5 kts. Happy sailing

  7. It looked like you all left a little early. I guess everyone was back on-board and they took advantage of the opportunity. Your now reporting 17.5 kts and on schedule (marine traffic)

I used to work on helicopters until I retired, and several years ago (2008 maybe) while in St. Thomas I met up with a friend from there that I met while working on helicopters. His grandfather is the namesake of the Post Office building (last name Jenson was the first postmaster of St. Thomas)and he has spent his life there. He is a crewman on the Dark Blue helicopters that you may see in the area . He took us to his home to meet his family but then took us to Bolongo Bay [bolongobay.com]for lunch. (point is he is a local and this is where he took us) Food was very good and reasonable. I had a fish sandwich. I thought it was a nice place and very tropical. I'll send a picture from the website.

Just a suggestion. But if anyone visits this place I would like to get a report.

  8. they dont need to fix or replace the computers..they are fine..the problem is the SATELLITE...it's a ship, sailing at sea..they are not equipped with 3G or 4G service nor do they have high speed internet

I call the ship regularly on my regular landline phone and often canNOT get thru...its all the same thing - the satellite

On the Pride they have cellular service with most major carriers. I have a smart phone (although it's a lot like a smart car, not really so smart!) and I have Verizon (hate em) service. I had service through my phone which I has a wifi hotspot. I called Verizon long before I went on the cruise and they (customer service)said something like "you have unlimited data service so it really doesn't matter how you use it. You should see no additional charges." I Just paid an extra $75 this month for that service. (I cut it off after 2 days at sea when I started getting messages that I had used $25, then $50.) BUT THE SERVICE WAS GOOD. I measured a square 1.5 Mbps (up & down) at one point. There's really a lot more to it but that's the jest!

    Sudsy:)

  9. Thank you for clearing that up and also for talking with the two officers about the engine/propulsion problem.

I was on this ship back in November and the Internet was slow as molasses and it kicked you right out of whatever you were doing at the time. They really, really need to replace/fix/all those computers

Hopefully that is one of the things they will do when she goes into Dry-Dock.

Enjoy yourself on this cruise. ;)

I had the same kind of internet service on the Grandeur. I suspect it's the same with all ships in this class and yes hopefully they will install a new satellite link system and do a general upgrade of the service. I DID NOT have service in my aft Jr. Suite. I had to carry my laptop to the area of the internet lounge to use it. I found the Card Room next door was a good place to go if it wasn't crowded (never was). I had much better luck on the recent Carnival Pride cruise but that's the only thing I liked better than my RCI cruises.

Hey, did anyone notice all the wild chickens on Tortola? It was like the squirrels around my area.

  10. I will be watching too Sudsy!!! Come on over I have popcorn, we can watch together! lol

pretty boring tonite so far. See if you can see the gray vessel way north of St. Thomas. It's been showing 37.4 kts. That's fast for something out that far. may BE GONE NOW. toward Bermuda.

    TYPING IN BED ON NETBOOK

It's about 566 nm nne of Puerto Rico. Bet it's military

  11. I plan to watch the marinetracker web site closely tonight to see when the Enchantment comes into range. Probably won't be until late. I am fascinated by the movements of the ships in the Caribbean in the evenings and thru the night. I bet they negotiate with the various islands so everybody gets a little of the tourism money.

And I agree on the photos, they are great.
