  1. I did a search, but couldnt find anything. Are there cruises scheduled to leave from PR that are still leaving as scheduled? We are on the AOS in April, and I presume by then some order will be restored, but was curious as to cruises leaving now?

    thanks.

The Sept 23rd and 30th cruises have been cancelled. We were to be on the 30th trip from San Juan. They are using the ship for humanitarian relief and taking supplies to St. Thomas and St. Croix after dropping off residents in Puerto Rico from the previous cruise as well as taking some stranded people to Florida. They are acting like the October 7 trip is still a go, but I don't think that will happen. Check out the Roll Call for the 30th Sept cruise on Adventure of the Seas. There is a lot of posts and links to conditions in there towards page 35 of comments.

  2. They really do make us feel like we are hostage to the company. If the wife and I had a choice to merely cancel due to the circumstances for our Saturday trip, we could redo our flight with United and make an alternate plan for our vacation, but as of now, it's a sit and wait game with them. I don't see how a pier only a couple hundred yards away could be in good condition if the main piers there are a mess.

This is our first RCL cruise and honestly, it's probably the last with the games being played. They showed people in San Juan in a long line this morning on the Weather Channel waiting to buy $20 in rationed gas. Also was mentioned long lines at the only powered ATM to get a max of $500 if needed. A grocery store was open but only letting 5 people in at a time with security. Still out of power on the island and supplies limited. I just don't get the runaround, but then again I don't own a multi million dollar cruise company.

  3. Is there any chance that RCI could relocate the Adventure for the next few months to another port (FLL or MIA?) until San Juan is back on it's feet?

With no power, and many of the hotels closed (and damaged), how can 2500-3000 passengers converge on San Juan pre-cruise anytime soon? Not to mention the airport.....

I am sailing November 11th and I'm already in contingency mode......

Prayers first and foremost are with the people of Puerto Rico....

You have the same questions as us.. and we are supposed to sail on 30-Sept. Carnival has canceled all the way through 8-Oct apparently from San Juan. But sure, the pier a couple hundred yards away is good to go according to RCL.

  4. Ok folks please do not burn me at the stake for what I am about to say . First of ,yes I am loyal to RCL and have been for ten years , do they have things that can be improved , yeppers but on the whole they are a pretty good company .

However I think some are being way to harsh when it comes to how they are handling the storms situation . They are posting everyday, on changes they have figured out and plan to keep doing so . Yeah I understand our vacations are important to us but people are losing their lives , have no homes and are suffering !!!!Let's just think about them and have compassion and we will get the vacations we deserve <3<3<3<3

I fully believe we should be the least worry of PR and San Juan. I just don't get attempting to dump tourists onto the streets there when recovery and cleanup is happening. I've said it in other posts, but the logistics of just getting from the airport to the ship takes many taxis and shuttles. Can they even run these right now and have them in place? Makes no sense. I think the forcing of a 3-day altered cruise is the dumbest idea all in an attempt for RCL to keep money from people who choose not to take the change. I get it that you get a cruise credit, but really it should just be refunded. Why should your money be held hostage for their profit? Spare me the discourse on the terms too. Altered plans like this should not be included. The people on island have more to worry about than trying to pick up tourists to get them to the ships. Still think it will end up canceled. Still watching for our 30-Sept changes out of San Juan should it happen.

  5. That makes sense. I had to go find the other thread to find the part about the Fort Lauderdale stop. The next provision challenge will be for the Sept 30 cruise. That gives them about 8 days to get replacement provisions shipped from the mainland to San Juan.

That would be the cruise we are supposed to depart on from San Juan that you speak of. You would think that any food they have in port now that was supposed to be used for departing on the 23rd would be used for the people of PR as hurricane relief. The big question is did it stay refrigerated during the outages? Reports vary about San Juan itself and power. The airport has backup they are running on but it's limited from what I read. I can't see commercial flights resuming anytime soon, and why would they unless to get people off island. They really don't need tourists lugging bags around town or the worry of getting taxis around town. Were they not flooded out too? The cruise companies run on $$$ and they will do everything to keep what money you have given them. Shortening a cruise and making everyone jump around 2-3 days before it's supposed to leave is insane given the circumstances. How is it not a breach of contract when they shorten a cruise and don't refund the money to those that can not make the new sail date for any reason? That's what I'd like to know.

  6. Do you know, I just re-read the memo from RCL and I think if I were on the next sailing, I'd cancel. It all hinges on the one word, "anticipate." in the following sentence. They are not promising they will be going (which they cannot do until the pier is checked out).

<<Due to the uncertainty of the timing of the port re-opening in San Juan, we anticipate our new departure date will be Wednesday, September 27, sailing a 3-night itinerary to Antigua and St. Kitts.>>

Doesn't matter if the pier is checked out and the airport is still closed. The two go hand in hand.

  7. The airport sustained damages to the interior of the terminal from videos posted on Twitter yesterday. Looked like glass panes and roof leaks everywhere. Possibly broken pipes too in the ceiling with the water that was pouring in unless it was just the rain water. It amazes me that RCCL has not cancelled Saturday's trip out of that port. People should be arriving today through Saturday, but they are playing games again with the booked cruises. We are scheduled for next Saturday (30-Sept) for ours on RCL.

  8. Totally agree! Need to be proctive. I do think they should temporarily move AOS to FL

If this were to happen, we would need to know well before to change flights. Ours was direct to PR, so would definitely need changed. Hoping for the best.

Edit: Just saw on Twitter that they aren't announcing any changes for the 23-Sept AoS out of San Juan until Thursday morning?? Seriously? I doubt flights will be landing at SJU that soon after, but who knows.

  9. We are supposed to sail out on 30-Sept.. so a little closer to this hurricane. I hope for the best for San Juan, but also hope that RCL doesn't string along the possibility of a cruise happening if it's not going too. I saw too much of that happening during Irma with CCL on the FB postings. The major factor is any damage to the airport itself, seeing as almost everyone would need to fly into the island to depart on the cruise.

  10. I was reading over the same blog post and it's a little confusing on the pricing. I may be wrong, but the $13 prices listed might be from the Oasis class ships possibly. I had the same initial reservation that if there is $12 cap on the drinks, how can they make all the cocktails $13?? But it does state that prices are little more on the larger class ships. I think this is a great package for those that drink scotch and bourbons for sure. I'm not sure how easy it is to drink your daily average on a port day, but I can definitely put a dent in it on a sea day. Still though, for 2 people that's in the realm of $900+ on drinks. I'm not sure I could do that personally.

  11. We have been attempting to book some type of trip out to Stingray City for our trip the week of Oct 15 this year and it seems that we can not find an operator that can take us out there. They all say we are too late for the morning trip out and too early for the afternoon. Has anyone had a trip through a company outside of the ship? Does DCL offer one of these excursions? It's odd because our two Carnival trips there we never had a problem getting out there to snorkel. Any suggestions on companies to contact that maybe some of you have used?

  12. If you're debating on whether this is worth the $35, I can tell you it DEFINITELY is! You'd pay somewhere over $100+ for this type of dinner anywhere on land and it is excellent. Don't forget the free bottle of wine if you book the Steakhouse the first night of the cruise. We just had this dinner on the Carnival Pride and it was GREAT!

  13. All of the encouragement and concise directions from this thread makes me certain we could get to Trunk Bay on our own, but I would like to stop and take some of the typical tourist photos of the Bay. It looks like the taxis are multi-person safari type vehicles. I'm thinking they won't stop for photo ops, and I wouldn't expect them to just for me to take pictures.

I'm not looking for an island tour--I just want a few minutes to take a couple of pictures. The ship's excursion offers that. Is there some way I can still get to Trunk Bay on my own but also stop at the photo opportunities along the way?

If you're going to Trunk Bay for snorkeling, I'd like to just say it is one of the busiest stops for a beach day on St John. If you want a more quiet area with snorkeling, Cinnamon Bay is just as nice. You can snorkel out all the way around the island in the bay as well. It has showers, restrooms and a snack bar as well near the campground entrance and no fees to enter. Trunk Bay is nice, but the years of people snorkeling it have kind of destroyed the corals along the underwater trail.

Also for those that are interested, look up Francis Bay and the resident Manta Rays hanging out there since December. I plan on a trip to Maho and Francis Bay when we are in St Thomas in May to hopefully find these gentle giants and swim with them. That's just up the road from Cinnamon Bay, which is just up the road from Trunk Bay.

    Have a great trip!
