  1. Had the same thing happen with Alaska Airlines - LAX to FLL. Two departure time changes from good to terrible and then perfectly awful.

We grabbed their first flight at 11am which got us into FLL the night before the cruise- and made it a reasonable departure for us since LAX is a two hour drive away. Then they changed it to 8am - which made it a lot less convenient for us.

Then they changed it to 7am - which means having to leave home around 3am. Nothing else worked for us on the RT ticket we purchased. Half the fun is getting there? Not any longer.

There are plenty of red-eyes for this route which we tried in the past and hated - leave you stuck in FLL around 5am killing time to get to the ship much later. You would think there would be money to be made just taking care of the cruise passenger traffic to FLL. But airline schedules do not reflect this from LAX.

So now we have a red-eye flight in reverse - getting little sleep before we depart, instead of getting no sleep on the plane.

What about staying at a hotel at LAX the night before. We do that often at PHX (We live south if Tucson). We stay at a Hilton that has a Park and Fly package. The extra cost is worth the peace of mind of knowing you're right at the airport.

  2. We always stay at the San Diego Hilton Airport/Harbor Island. Rooms facing the Harbor have beautiful views, balconies, there is a nice casual restaurant, nice bar and the employees are great. Their bus will pick you up at the airport and take you to the cruise ship. They don't, however, pick you up after the cruise, if you're planning on staying after the cruise. There are plenty of cabs at the terminal following a cruise, and the airport is just a few miles away. We live south of Tucson, and drive to San Diego when we're cruising from there. The hotel charges $10 per night to leave your car in the hotel parking lot. Very convenient.

  3. It is on the travel portal web page of the big box retailer, toward the bottom of the page.

Found it, thanks! And it actually says "For Executive Member purchases made directly from "Big Box" Travel departing on or after September 1, 2017, a 2% Reward will be earned and applied after travel is completed. Must be an Executive Member when travel starts. Excludes taxes, fees, surcharges, gratuities, trip protection, and portions of travel purchased through a third party such as activities, tours, baggage fees, upgrades, rental car equipment, resort charges, port charges, resort and cruise line fees and similar extras. Other terms, conditions and exclusions applicable to the 2% Reward apply.

  4. And I strongly suggest you NOT plan to fly on the same day that you sail. Do you really trust the airline to get you there when they say they will? What if the weather is bad and they don't fly? Is it worth the anxiety of dealing with the airlines?

I absolutely agree with that. There are lots of hotels at SeaTac. Peace of mind and a good night's sleep before your cruise makes for a great beginning!
