Agree with those posting about paying in USD currency in Canada.  Major cities, especially near the border, often have this situation in touristic areas.  Anytime I have seen a card posted by a retailer as to the rate they are offering, it is a terrible ripoff and I am embarrassed to see American tourists being taken advantage of that way.  It's great for the retailer who can pocket the USD at end of the day and replace it with CAD for way less than they can purchase USD for travel south.

Thrak, this really isn't such a big deal.  That said, there are going to be places that might not have a posted rate and then a sales clerk is going to have to ask a manager and it becomes a bit of a "thing" to get it done.

My advice is to use credit card and limit acquiring cash.  Especially if you have one that doesn't charge a foreign currency surcharge.  They are accepted almost everywhere and for almost anything and everything - even small purchases.  Same as in USA.

But also look into ATM fees and rates.  Perhaps your bank in the US has a partnership of sorts with a Canadian bank.  TD Bank in the US (lots of presence up and down east coast) is owned by TD Canada Trust in Canada and might offer better rate for its customers.

We Canadians have it lucky as our banks offer USD credit cards as readily as CAD cards and we also have USD bank accounts - again just a prevalent as CAD accounts.

I agree with Steelers .. I'm from Niagara Falls, Ontario and a lot of tourist don't get the right discount .. we are at 38% to buy US.. try to change somewhere .. If you are going to a couple of ports take a couple of canadian dollars with you .. I do find also credit cards give the best exchange ..

  2. We were on Emerald Princess Oct. 4/2018 sailing .. they had the Voice .. My hubby and I got a cold so the last two days of our cruise we stayed in our room.. what I wanted to know who won the Voice plus is there a place where we can purchase the video if there is one .. I"ve look every where and gave up.. thanks in advance for the help...

  3. I am starting to research a Panama Canal cruise for spring of 2018 with either princess or NCL. We've had 3 cruises with NCL and one with RCI so far. I'm wondering what are the differences between Princess and NCL as far as service, food, crowding and passenger demographic. Our last two cruises on NCL have been very crowded and has affected our enjoyment, so I'm wondering it it would be different on Princess. Also, who do you think does better with the Panama Canal cruise? I'm sure I'll have more questions in the future, so please be patient with me. Thanks for and input.

We did NCL Pearl through the Panama Canal at Easter time.. the Pearl is our favourite ship so there was nothing wrong there.. I would say maybe about 40 kids and hardly saw them .. wasn't crowded at all.. now with the food was awful green beans and more green beans .. my husband got mad a few times in the dinning room cause the food was not up to par.. there was about 200 Aussies so we had a lot of fun with them ... I would do the cruise again cause it's quite a experiment going through the canal.. so my only beef was the food .. love the ship..

  4. May I asked my fellow casino players .. my brother in law love this machine called Good Vibrations.. it takes 3 quarters and the arms go back n fro hoping your 3 quarters pushes the other quarters out.. very common game.. He spent hours on this machine.. you don't win much but you can get a coin for a bottle of wine or a t-shirt.. thanks hope I explained right..

  5. Hi friends: I'm new to Princess and have lots of questions.. we booked Emerald Princess for Hawaii in Oct/18 .. mini suite . now my question is the cruise has gone down $500 from what we have paid in the beginning each.. we were offer in the beginning the drink pkg plus one free special dining.. now also its says come back and we don't pay gratuities .. does that mean for people who already sailed on Princess or is that for anyone sailing on princess.. My husband and I aren't big drinkers and just wonder would it be wise to take advantage of cheaper rite and don't pay gratuities if we are entitle to it.. thanks friends..
