  1. Good on you, Being the mother of a disabled child I understand your situation. I haven't been on the Dawn for 2 years but hopefully I can give you some hints.

Just as an idea could you take them to Portside a couple of times pre cruise to see how they react and to give them an idea what goes on.

Ask for boarding assistance using cruise control. You do get to to pick your time so you might be better later when it may not be so busy.

Go to reception explain your situation and hopefully they will give you a quieter area to muster.

If you would like to eat at the Waterfront again have a chat to the Front of house staff who might be able to give you a quieter table.

If the Pantry you could always get their food and take it back to the room of find a quieter place to sit.

Take some activities that can be done in the room, DVDs, IPads etc if that is their thing. Advise your room stewards of your situation.

I honestly don't think Kids Club would be suitable for the younger one and maybe not the older one either.

If you contained their activities to say the pool area and the Dome you should be fairly safe but play it be ear.

You won't be the only one on board with special needs children.

Hopefully you have a nice time, Good Luck!

Agree with above. We got off the Pacific Dawn on the 16th March - after the re-fit. The Dome would not be an option now - it gets utilised a lot more now. The Splash Pool on Deck 12 would be about the only place, or perhaps on Deck 7 outside. Although the railings on Deck 7 and Deck 14 are open and would not be very safe if the child has issues. The Kids club can get very crowded and could also pose a problem if they do not like crowds.

  2. Crewe, we were on the same cruise and also so disappointed with the hotel P&O put us in - Hotel Re. It was an older hotel that had been sort of refurbished to be a 'retro' hotel - a lot of pink. The lobby looked OK for a 1 night stay but things got worse at the lift. I looked like we were entering a brothel - a pink cut-out of Marilyn Munroe in her famous pose on the lift window and a filthy carpet with holes. The room was tiny (our balcony cabin on the ship was bigger). There was no running hot water without putting on a switch 15 minutes before and the wall behind our beds had 8 cut-out people profiles looking down on us. Totally unacceptable.

I tried to complain on the ship after waiting in a queue for almost an hour, but no one would listen. After a few days all on board were $150 for the delay and a refund of 1 day of what we paid for the cruise. Yet it cost us more to stay basically 2 days in Singapore (as we boarded around 11pm on day 2). Singapore is a very expensive place for food and drink.

We had stayed in the Peninsula Hotel (21st floor) overlooking the Padang and the Marina Sands Casino Hotel prior to the scheduled departure date and ended up in this dump. Not happy. I've written a detailed letter to P&O on pre-cruise and other issues, and hope to get some response.

I would be interested to hear if you receive a reply. I think nearly all of us onboard where looking forward to the cancelled port of Dili. Who cares about Bali - it is very over-rated and not pleasant if you just want to do your own 'thing'. We walked off the ship and walked out onto the street and walked straight inside and back onto the ship - horrible.

In our opinion the compensation was adequate. $150.00 pp + the day refund (although we technically lost nearly two days of not being on the ship), but the accommodation some of us got was not satisfactory at all. We were previously in the Grand Mecure Roxy in an Executive Room and were put into The Links Hotel (on their website it says 4-Star, but in reality wouldn't even rate it as 2-Star). Not sure if it was the Singapore agent or P&O management who booked the hotels - but they need to check out the standard of accommodation, in person, before putting people in them.

It was not a 'good look' when their representative from P&O was picked up in a white limousine at the hotel door! Heard they were put up in the Novatel Clarke Quay????

Have you completed their on-line survey??

  3. Sorry to hear of the lengthy delay in your departure time. Do you know what caused the delay after a fortnight refit?

I hope you end up having an enjoyable cruise.

They say unforeseen technical issues. Don't mind that, but the issue was the standard of accommodation they put some of us in. Mould on breakfast ceiling, dirty a/c water dripping on the tables, inedible food for breakfast, roll of toilet paper next to breakfast food, the list goes on........ We had one of 12 Suites onboard and we get out into the above.

  4. Due to technical issues the Pacific Dawn is leaving Singapore a day later than scheduled, after a two week refit. Because of this "they" have decided to cancel our visit to Dili. NOT HAPPY We are supposed to be accommodated in a hotel for the first night in Singapore. Need to wait and see what arrangements have been made! Of the two ports of call that we booked this particular cruise for (Komodo & East Timor), one has been cancelled. Why not cancel Bali instead?? More to come.......

  5. No self laundry available on Divina Crewe.

Thanks. That's the answer I was afraid of! We have 20 nights on board next April. No laundry might be OK for 7-10 days, but nearly 3 weeks!

  6. From what I can see on other forums and TripAdvisor a taxi is about $US150.00, a private car with tour included is from $US300. I have been looking into this as we need to get from Santiago to Valparaiso to embark the Queen Victoria on the 9 February.

Anyone want to share a private car from Santiago to Valparaiso on the 7th February???

o Pick up at the Hotel at 9:00 a.m.

    o Transfer to Valparaíso

o Stop in winery (CasaBlanca Valley, Indomita or Santa Emiliana, max 15 Min.) on the route. (not. incl. tasting US$ 8 p/pax). Option.

    o Tour Valparaiso

    o Tour Viña del Mar

  7. Would like to take this offer up by you Ravenclaw - as time is also running out for us. My email address is mjhazlehurst@gmail.com if you would like to send me your email and I can then send you details of booking etc.

Just booked an early Seabourn cruise for early January and awaiting referral coupon via mail from Seabourn Club any day now. Window is short but doable. Seeking a first time Seabourn cruiser that has paid in full or about to pay by December 31, 2010 in order we both receive the $400 onboard credit.

Due to the short time frame was advised by the Seabourn Club Desk, (extremely helpful), that the transaction could be completed by me, (mailed by me), if a new cruiser would provide me with their Booking number and name/ address & email address. I would then overnight the completed referral coupon to the Seabourn Desk thus not having to mail the coupon to the new cruiser who would have to fill it out and then mail it themslves to the Seabourn Club desk.

New cruiser would not provide Booking details until I have referral coupon in hand, (hopefully by early next week, the latest).

Thanks for your consideration of this offer.
