  1. Hi Steve,

Yes it's us. How are u?

Our sons had a pretty rough year again health wise and we are trying to get some further away destinations in whilst he is still allowed to fly.

If it doesn't work out this year we will be hoping to pick your brains.

Amanda and I are both fine thanks - sorry to hear about your son, hopefully 2015 will be better.

I think you also did the same eastern med cruise on the reflection albeit a year earlier than us. We had a year off cruising and did the West coast of America.

  2. We are doing the Alaska bit too this summer, we sailing on the Star Princess on the 15th August - Southbound from Seward to Vancouver and have 3 nights in Seattle and Vancouver also.

Some people prefer doing a land tour with the cruiseline into Denali however we decided to do the above as we didn't want to do too much cold!!:)

  3. Hi, Firstly I am almost certain we sailed together on the eclipse in 2012,. I was the big fella who arranged the tour in St Petersberg with Alla Tours and you also joined us on our self conducted walking tour in Bruge!!

forgive me if I am wrong!!

Hope you and the family are well!!

Do you know that they can be used to pay your on board account? There have been reports on Cruise Critic of pre-paid cards being refused.

There are still times when it is worth watching the OBC price. Celebrity change it very infrequently and there are times when the rate offered is extremely good. This is very likely to be at different times to when other exchange rates are particularly good. For example, the pound now seems to be falling again against the dollar. If this continues, anyone who did no purchase all the dollars they wanted before the rate went down may find it worthwhile buying OBC. Nothing is certain but I watch the dollar price daily and have a chart going back to early 2009. It helps us judge when to purchase what for our cruises.

    Sue,

You have got me wondering now, I will have to take a back up card

You make a good point regarding the fact that celebrity dont review their US$ rate that regulary so I can appreciate your comments

    Thanks

  5. Have had problems buying obc online in the past. Just rang Celebrity UK (08444932043) and bought some by phone. Online it shows 1 unit costs £15.20 for $25, however by phone they charged me £14.90. Just need to wait and see if it goes through the bank account - transactions online for obc in the past have sometimes gone through ( with a lot of follow up emails), and sometimes not.

Sent from my iPad using Forums

We have Caxton Visa Cards which you can pre load when you want.W have a card in € and a card in US$ and pre load the card when ever I want when the rates are favorable

They can be used in any outlet which accepts Visa and you can make cash withdrawals via ATMs. There are no charges providing you dont use them in the UK and they can be used for your onboard charges. There is a dual currency card which comes with charges which I avoid!!

  6. In keeping with British traditions to finish up with a "curry" after a night out on the town (ship) can you get an Indian Curry in the buffet? :)

If you are lucky like we were the chef at the station invited us back one evening to the buffet and prepared a special meal for us.:D

Got the impression that he was bored serving up the same food day in day out.

The meal was one one of the best Indian meals we have ever had and we eat Indian regularly.

  7. We are looking at booking the Voyage of the Glaciers (Southbound) Cruise on the Star Princess in Aug 2015

Very simple question - Would you choose a starboard or port stateroom and would you have any preference in terms where on the ship - forward/mid ship or Aft.

Any advise would be much appreciated

    Thanks

  8. Due to sail on the Constellation on the 12th February 2011. As a first time cruiser we have been labouring over the decision whether or not to buy a premium classic drinks package for the 14 day cruise. Being from the UK I priced the package up at £994 including 15% for two of us (US$1553!!) for 14 days.

According to a post on another thread it has been stated that this would cost US$788.94!!

My question is can you buy these packages on board? and would the price be similar to US$788.94. Seems that just for being British we are getting ripped off!!

Unless I have made a mistake!!

Just tried to price up the package on Celebrity's website but once again it appears to be unavailable yet again!!!!

  9. Guys,

Thanks to eveyone for the for their extremely useful hints and tips on this thread.

As first time cruisers the information has been invaluable. We will be sailing on the Constellation on the 12th Feb 2011 for our 25th Annivesary and can't wait.

I am sure we will get the cruising bug !!!! and are already planning our second

Whilst my wife is not a heavy drinker I have started getting her in training!! :D so that we can make use of the Preemium alcoholic Package. Just want to get value for money rather than come out on top!!!

I would like to get a copy of poolboycry's spreadsheet but do not want to post my e-mail address on this thread. Any suggestions.
