  1. Have gone on 8 cruises since 2000. Sadly probably my last was last month. Service has gone way done hill. THey have a new beverage package you can purchase. Think in June it was a free promotion if you booked in may, which i did not. THey have way less bar servers. Especially at the pool. They use to bug you every five minutes around the pool. How i so wished for that this cruise. The whole week got service at pool once. When I went to get a drink was always a twenty minute wait. Think with the beverage package they dont want to puch the drinks so no service and longer wait. Also hear daily service charge is going up again in august. Would not mind paying for this if service is up to par. Loved going out of Boston since that is where I am from. But looks like next cruise will be trying Royal caribean .

  2. To respnd to thiswillbefunnj I am not walking away over $3.00. If you read my post I said would not mind payiing if service was better. I have crusied with them eight times. In the past service was unbelievable. If i went to the same bar everynight bar server would come over, and address me by name and say are you having your usual. I was very impressed by this. This year would get a decaff coffee at least twice a day at the cafe bar. Same waiter would get mine drink order wrong eight out of 10 times. Saw him mess up constantly with other customers.

  3. Like I said would have no issue paying more service charge if service was like I had in th past. My last cruise in 2011 you would be bugged every five minutes, used to get bothered by that. Then this year I was like would rather be bugged then ignored.

Also think NCL has no real activities going on during the day especially sea days.

Think we are going to try Royal Caribean.

  4. Sad to say after sailing over 15yrs with NCl I am done. Sailed on the Dawn out of Boston last month. The service fees had gone up almost $3.00 since my last cruise 3yrs prior. The service fee on the drinks also increased to 18 percent when it use to be 15 percent. Would not mind it but service has dropped and is horrible. No bar service around the pool. Twenty minutes to get a drink at the pool bars. Only good bar service we had all week was at the Gabsy bar. If you did get service was at least half hour for your drink.

When I got home I wish I had taken part of the tips off and gave my room steward the money in cash himself. He was great best one I had in years.

  5. Cabin- Was on Deck 8 cabin 8166. Swiched to an ocean front week before when priced dropped. BUt was at very back of the ship. Was a little worried because usualy it can be rough going out of Boston. This was the calmest cruise I ever had going out of Boston. Was not rocky the whole week. Cabin had lots of drawer and closet space. Best room steward in over 20yrs of cruising Richard. Was always visable and friendly.

Entertainment- You have to see the Illusionist David Davinci he works with his wife in the show. Get there 30 minutes before if you want a seat. One night got there 15 minutes before and it was all filled up had to leave the show room. Think he is on board until November.

Newlywed game is always fun to watch, but they realy need to change their questions up. Have had the same questions for over 15yrs. We put are name in to play but did not get picked. If we did get picked we would of won since they were old questions.

Second City- Just saw one of the shows which was good.

Bermuda- This was my 12th trip to Bermuda and the best weather ever. Sunny and hot everyday. We got to Bermuda around 11:00 did not want to wait in line to get off , so just waited till the line cleared. Went and got are 2 day transportation pass. Just made it on the ferry to hamilton. Ferry was empty. Talked to a nice couple that have lived in Bermuda for 9 yrs. Found it interesting that even thought their two kids were born in Bermuda, they do not have citizenship. When they came over on their work visa they have to sign a form that states that if they have childeren born while in Bermuda, they do not have citizenship.

Most shops are closed on Sunday in hamilton. Had a drink at a bar then took the bus to the crystal caves. We had not seen these in awhile, and there are now 2 caves. Tours were very imformative. Second tour quide was better for the original cave went into more detail. The other tour guide to just be going through the motions of his job.

After the caves finially made it for the 1st time to the Swizzle Inn. Good drink and fun place. Then waited for a bus back to hamilton. Had a crazy bus driver that went very fast. But made are 4:00 ferry just in time back to the dockyard.

Next day to the ferry to St George. Get there early for ferry. Got there at 8:45 for 9:30 ferry was already a line. Did some shopping, then had a drink in the white horse tarven. Walked to tobacco bay, not croweded at all. Went swimming, got some sun. Had a good lunch there. Then took a walk over to St catherines.

Did not see horseshoe bay this trip. But heard from many people that it was very crowded on Sunday.

The last day we like to stick around dockyard. Saw people swim with dolphins, did some shopping. Had a drink at the Frog and Onion. This day was the hottest, so we decided to go back to ship around 1:00. Lots of people had the same idea.

Leaving Bermuda we love to watch over the deck for the late people coming back to the ship. You had to be back by 5:00. Which I believe is later then other years. I thought is was 3:00 in the past might be wrong. Well at 5:00 they start paging four names. Every trip there are always a couple. Never get it over 2000 people get back on time and there are always a few. I think they should wait ten minutes then leave. Well usually in past trips people are only a few minutes late. It is now over twenty minutes. Still paging them. We look down and see one of the officers with 4 passports in her hand. We are like wow they are going to miss there ship. Then you see a van pulling up with two people, it is now 5:25. Five minutes later a moped is coming up with a police escort and just makes it on board. I hope this people get some ramifications for holding up the ship.

Great trip pulled into Boston at 7:00. We walk off are luggage to get off first. Started letting people off at 8:00. Got a cab and was home at 8:45.

Please feel free to post any questions

  6. Just got back on Friday from Bermuda. Will do my review in parts. Got to the port around 10:45. Was on board by 12:00. We dont like to check luggage. Made an announcement rooms were not ready but could leave bags in rooms. Went to are room and met are room steward Richard. He was still cleaning so we dropped bags off and left.

Heading up on deck to the pool Bar and got a drink, they were making burgers and Fries had that for lunch. Walked around the ship it was still not that crowded yet. Made reservastions for Cagneys. Was already filling up. So if you want the specialty restaurants suggest you pre book them.

This was my 3rd time on the Dawn. Food seemed to be better. Only ate in Cagneys one night. The rest of are meals we ate at the buffet. They had a different selection each night.

Bar Service- This is my only complaint about the cruise. Bar service was horendus.

Don't know if because of the new drink packages offered, they don't want to push drinks that much (or not at all). Use to get upset when you were by the pool in past yrs and every five minutes were asked if you wanted a drink. Not this cruise we always had to go to the outside bars by the pool to get are drinks. Always took 15-20 minutes for a drink at the outside bars.

PERLY KINGS BAR- was also bad one night the waiter cleared the glasses off the table we sat down at. But he never came back to wiped the spilled beer off of it. Never came over to take are order. The other waitress was to busy singing karokee everynight, instead of taking peoples orders.

The coffee bar- Husband lucks decaf coffee, actually can't have caffine. Eight times out of 10 the same waiter would always get his order wrong. Miss the days on this cruise that if you went to the same place every day, they would actually address you buy name and ask if you were having your usual drink. I was always so impressed by this. Over 2000 people on ship and at night waitress would address me by name and know which wine I wanted.

Spinnager bar- If you got here early before a show and ordered it yourself was very fast. One night order a drink from waiter, was not that busy. Twenty minutes later brings my drink, tells me I will bring your card right back. Twenty minutes goes buy still dont have my card. Went to find him. Oh will bring it right over. I said NO would like it now, you have had it for twenty minutes.

Gatsbys- Best bar and services on the ship. LOved ELana was always smiling. Got your drink quickly and was always accurate.

    Will continue later

  7. Hope someone can help me. Have an inside cabin booked for my cruise next week. Just saw the ocean rooms dropped. If I call and ask to switch cabins and pay differece. Will I be eligible for the promotions they are offering now? Just have a $25.00 credit for inside cabin. Would I be able to get JUne promotion of the Alcohol package?

  8. Also just thought I read if I did get this upsell. I would not qualify for the promotion. Does anyone know if that is true? Booked an inside in May and just got $25.00 credit. If I go to a suite would I get the Promotion package of alcohol?

  9. Got e-mail yesterday from upsell dept. We are in a inside now paid $1700.00 all together. Could upgreat to a varity of suits. Lowest was the family suit $750.00pp. Dont know if I would also get the promotion of the free alcohol or not. Called today to see if they had an ocean view upgrade available. Really would like a suit but to much. They said no other upsells available. Might try calling next week again. Sailing on the Dawn on 06/19

  10. Well in all my yrs of cruising got my first upgrade e-mail. They said I could upgrade to a suite. Prices start for a family suite at $750pp. Think this is a good deal. Just two of us. We are on deck 9 now in a inside cabin.

  11. Marstaf Marina Bay in QUincy has a few seafood restaurants. The best one though in my opinon over there is called the Chantey. It is not on the waterfront like the other ones. But has the best seafood. Portions are great. Everytime I go there I have to laugh. We pass other people waiting to get into the other ones on the water. Never a wait mostly locals because it is kind of set back. But it is the best and always great service.

  12. Agree that they are not dropping prices like the past. Three yrs ago sailed on the dawn price dropped for an obstructed view three days after I booked by $350.00pp. Called and they upgraded me to a balcony. At the time paid $1,000.00. NOw they want $1200.00 for an obstructed room. Prices seem high. Was waiting to see if they would drop. Sailing June 19th. Saw sailings before mine did not drop. So ended up booking last week. Settled for an inside even though I would of loved some light. But ended up paying $1700.00 for the two of us. Porthole would of been $3100.00. All we do is sleep not in cabin at all. So I hope I will not miss my window to much.
