  1. We were in the Ben & Jerry's Sweet for the Halloween Cruise 10/22/15. We went to Customer Service Deck 5 and exchanged our card for a gold card. You also need a second card to access the concierge lounge. Continental Breakfast in the morning and coffee 24 hrs. Appetizers and drinks from 5-8PM. DH & I had free ice cream from B&J's. Also, the gold card gets you access to Chops for Breakfast. Order the pancake with fruit, you won't be sorry. Also gold card area for the ice show and gold card area for sunbathers. I felt so special!

Forgot to mention, NO slamming doors!

  2. Just booked the Liberty of the Seas for September 4, 2016. I landed a PR cabin 6305, which is the Ben and Jerry Sweet. I've seen a video from 5 years ago on youtube, but has anyone had this cabin in the last year or two?

What perks should I expect to see?

  3. I hope they do this month too. Will be on the Explorer Aug. 28th. I need my daily dose of milk for breakfast.

Someone said that the "fridge" in the cabin didn't keep the milk cold....of course not, it isn't a fridge, it's just a cooler. Won't keep things cold for long.

    Gwen :)

A trick we have found helpful is to drape a hand towel on the outside door that hides the Fridge

(and tell your stateroom attendant not to remove the towel or close the otter door).

Reason being that any cooling device does not make cold- it transfer heat from one place to another.

It takes the heat from inside the Fridge and dumps it onto the grid in the back of the Fridge, and then into the air.

When the outer door is closed it traps the heat inside the cubicle and the transfer of heat is hampered.

Give it a try, I always felt that the Fridge got cooler and you are correct -too cold it will never get.

  4. Please can anyone that has stayed in a promenade stateroom give me a review of it? Was it noisy? Did you enjoy it? We are looking at this on Independence of the Seas for a short cruise. We have previously stayed in a balcony with Royal Caribbean but as the destination is not something we necessarily need to look at from a balcony, we are considering this. I get claustrophobic quite easily so are considering this as opposed to an inside with no window. The cost is certainly making it look more appealing :) All reviews appreciated.

The following is a cut and paste is from one of my previouse postings-(with a slight update)

"As you can tell from our signature, we have been on the explorer many times.

We have had a promenade on deck 6 mid ship (on all but the last cruise) for the following reasons

Equal distance to fore and aft elevators ( the walk does not bother us, work off some of the over eating).

Great for watching people and parades, Never had a noise problem.

1 flight down to Promenade for sales, shops or cafe for a quick cup of coffee.

The following is information gathered from others and personal observations-

Do NOT book over pub rooms ?575, ?577. ?579 some can hears music from the pub into the night.

Do NOT book over the Champaign Bar or Customer services , when we sailed last year, there was

a LOUD latin band playing on DECK 4 Aquarium loung and the music traveled up the open stairwells

late into the night. someone in our Meet and mingle group said it was terrible, trouble getting to sleep.

The higher up you are the closer to the window you have to get to see the promenade (Sharper angle to look down).

If you book toward the front it will be a long walk every time to the MDR and Windjammer.

Deck 6 is great as it is a few 1-3 deck down to the MDR, no need to wait for an elevator.

Our first cabin was 6283 and we have always booked it or directly across it (see pub warning above)

past and future sailings. We like this location because it is center (fore-aft) center (top to bottom)

where supposedly you have the least amount of rocking and rolling.

Hopefully this will help you choose."

Look over the deck plans for the ship you are sailing on and modify the room choice accordingly

The only reason that we were not in a Promanade room the last is-

They had a major price drop after the final payment and we opted to try a LARGE oceanview

Deck 7for no aditional money-We originally booked a Promenade Deck 6 Center.

We seldom looked out to the ocean an came to the conclusion that we prefer the Promenade cabin.

We spend very little time in the cabin, always up and about-so much to see, do and enjoy.

The one item I left off was "MAKE SURE YOU CLOSE THE DRAPES WHEN UNDRESSING OTHERWISE

YOUR NIEGHBORS ACROSS WILL BE TREATED TO A SHOW."

  5. What is the certificate you can purchase on board to receive on board booking bonus and do they have an expiry date?

We are cruising in May, and would like to book another cruise, but frankly, I do not see any that I really want to go on - would like to do the southern caribbean - but it is such a long flight from Toronto to San Juan, especially if you can not get a direct flight.

I am sort of hoping the open the Mexican Riviera again, but I do not want to buy a certificate if the expire.

    Thanks

You only need to put ONE name on the certificate - pay $100 and when you decide to book the cruise add the 2nd name and deposit.

If there is a C & A Savings certificate it can be conbined for additional savings.

I remember if friends or Family (2 max?) book within 30 days same cruise they also will get the OBC, but I do not see it now.

If you cruised RCCL and are a Gold or better C&A member, your good to go.

If this is your first cruise - see the Loyalty Rep to set up your C&A membership.

DO NOT WAIT TO SEE THE LOYALTY REP- they get very busy toward the end of the cruise. Go there the first day, they have an appointment book and you can schedule a time to your liking.

We always have 1 or 2 Nextcruise certificates waiting - so when the urge strikes we are ready.

  6. I was up on deck 11 early every morning, so I could see what the day looked like even though I had an inside cabin… but where’s the BRIDGE CAM?!?!? I always used to tune to that channel on my TV so I could see what the weather was like in my inside cabins, enjoy the sunrise – they don’t seem to have that on the Explorer. Harumph! C’mon, Disney is installing electronic portholes in their new builds; the TV screen in our cabin could provide the same function if the bridge cam were working.

When we were on the Explorer for the Thanksgiving cruise the cam was not working.

We questioned the (new & temp) CD and got a blank stare with the response that

the foward facing cam never existed.

However at the "ask the Captain session", we posed the question why is it not now

working and we know it exists as we have even seen an emergency airlift from the

helipad on the the TV cam.

He said he would check it out and by that afternoon the foward cam was on the TV.

We too book a Promenade cabin and the TV cam is a great way to check out whats doing outdoors.

It is my guess that when it goes off line they have to hit a reset button, but this

will only be done if they know its down.

If it happens again on our next cruise, I will address it quicker with hotel management.
