  1. Friday, Cinco de mayo

This is our fourth sea day after leaving Hilo

The sky is cloudy this morning, and the temperature will only get to 64 today. The seas will get progressively rougher through the day.

You can say that again. I had told my wife earlier, that the Pacific was as calm as being on a lake. That all changed these last few days of the cruise.

Thanks for a such a detailed review and filling in the gaps of my photo album:-)

  2. Come on Guys and Gals.

Just giving information that some wanted to know.

Why all the talk. Hate to say it some of you are a pain

in the ***. This is why some people don't ask questions

    or post about their cruise!

On Grand now.... Butter Is On The Table..soft. No Blue Bags

Not reporting it again. Know some like the information and all

    others just laugh away!

Thanks Belle, we will be boarding the Grand Sunday and my DW has packed an old blue bag in her suit case for old times sake:). Hope the seas have been calm for you and thanks for posting. I believe the phrase "social media" is a misnomer sometimes and it seems CC has changed over the years, IMHO

  3. We are on Grand with you in April and also will try the CC dining. Normally we also prefer a table for 2, however that said I am not opposed to trying a 4 top with another couple if we are seated at or around the same time. I agree it would be odd and uncomfortable to have someone join you half way thru your meal.

Hello Nvadav. Since you joined our roll call back in January '16 and assuming you are in a CC mini as are we, things worked well (price wise) for booking so early.:) if you read my intro on the roll call, we had to cancel a day before departure for this identical cruise in April '16 so we have been waiting a while too. Final payment coming up next week so won't be long now

  4. Since the closing rams are what support the tender platform when extended, actually the best time to renew the rams is when the platform is closed, and the lock bars and hinges are supporting the weight, not the hinges and the closing rams. These rams may have been due for overhaul based on service life, and they waited until after the tender port, but wanted to get a jump on the job before drydock, and started the job on the way back.

Your reasoning sounds the most plausible so far that I have seen here. Probably we will never know for sure but I bet you are right.

  5. What I wonder is if they still need to stop in SF (if they were planning to pick up workers and/or material for the dry dock there) or if they can go directly to Portland.

My bet is that once they patch/repair the tender door and after all passengers have disembarked, the captain will head straight for Portland at full ahead speed with the stabilizers stowed:). Since they will be late in getting into Portland and another cruise starting on Dec 20 time will be of the essence. I am pretty sure workers/material will be flown/trucked up to meet the ship when it comes in. I for one will be waiting for the Bridge Cam views of the Columbia river as she sails towards Portland:)

Looks like you will get a nice view of Waikiki as you pass by Diamond Head. Safe travels home to you and all other passengers.

  7. On our cruise a few years back, Malta's port of Valletta was substituted for Tunisa and it was one of the highlights of our cruise (along with Crete). We were treated with a real cannon salute when we departed in the late afternoon which was really amazing.

  8. Got to go on board the RMS Queen Mary in South Hampton while the France (which we had sailed from NY) was tied up at an adjoining pier. Tells you how old I am:-). Saw the QM sail into LB back in '67 and visited it a few times again while we lived in So Cal. Glad it wasn't scuttled, unlike the SS France (later to be NCL's Norway).

  9. Haven't been following my own post, but yes, we did receive the same e-mail regarding our cabin being upgraded to CC with no increase in fare. I too have checked the the current price of these cabins and the price has increased a full $1k PP from what we paid back on the 1st of April prior to the introduction of CC.

  10. We booked our Grand midship mini the first of April. The price was about $800 higher then the identical cabin/cruise we had booked for an April '16 which we had to cancel at the last minute (trip insurance saved the day on that one). That cabin is now one of Club Class and we received our email yesterday from princess saying no price increase and my thinking is that they had already factored in an increase before the announcement. In checking the Princess web site today ,those remaining cabins are "NA" again, so we will see if a further increase might be coming. Since this cruise has a lot of sea days over what can be a rocky Pacific, midship is our preferred location.
