  1. I can’t imagine cruising without it anymore. It helps on various levels, but of the 16 cruises I’ve taken, I’ve gotten sick twice (norovirus caught on board) and the medical facility bills alone were worth it. I didn’t have it one time and the medical bills totaled over $750 from the ships doctor. I had to cancel at the last minute once due to the sudden death of my mother and I ended up getting back most of the cruise fare because I had insurance. It’s well worth the peace of mind.

  2. (bold is mine) It smelled like Lemon Pledge to me.

3.) They have packages of minutes. I believe I paid $55 for 100 minutes. I don't remember the other pacakges. Some ships have a new unlimited package, but it hasn't come to Oosterdam yet.

4.) I'm not aware of any packaging of specialty restaurants. There are only two upsell restaurants, the Pinnacle (steak house) and Canaletto (Italian). If you want to dine in one or both, you should pre-purchase online so that you can get the time of your choosing. Booking onboard may leave you with limited options.

LOL!!! Thanks. I will go purchase the dining now. I appreciate the heads up.

  3. I did a solo on Breakaway 3 months after her inaugural. Did the studio cabins and loved it. I, too, love just hopping on the subway to the port and not having to fly (I do fly, but don't like it). I met plenty of other solos and had a wonderful time. It's a beautiful ship and will do it again!!!

  4. Can't speak to the Oosterdam, but DH did the spa package on the Noordam. The steam was co-ed. They put some sort of essential oil in the steam and it was a strong scent. He is used to being able to steam naked at his venue at home and did not enjoy it as much with his bathing suit on.

    Thanks!

  5. I'm boarding Oosterdam on Monday (3/21/16) for a 13-day from FLL > Rome and have a few questions since this is my first time sailing HAL (16th cruise but first time on HAL)....

1.) I try and work out every day while on board and love to do a steam afterward. I know there's a paid spa, but wanted to know if there is a steam room in the men's locker room I can use without having the expense?

2.). I'm also traveling alone and wanted to know what, if any, kind of singles programs they have on board?

3.). Can anyone share what the prices are for their internet packages? Do they have an unlimited package for the entire cruise like other lines or is it just groups of minutes that can be purchased?

4.). Other lines have packages where you can buy groups of specialty dining restaurants at a discount. Does O have this type of thing?

    Thanks to anyone who help.

    Rick from NYC

  7. Thanks all for your comments. I'm boarding Oosterdam on Monday (3/21/16) for a 13-day Passage to Rome from Ft. Lauderdale. I'm sort of on the young side but still feel like I will wear a sport coat to dinner. It's my 16th cruise but 1st on HAL and I'm looking forward to a bit more upscale feeling than RCI. I'm also expecting her to be ready for dry dock but it's nice to hear that she's not showing signs of wear that will get in the way of enjoying the cruise. Thanks again.

  8. I just got off Oasis of the Seas transatlantic from Southampton to FLL. I booked a D8 GTY and that's what I got and it was assigned 5 days prior to boarding. Also, booked the same class cabin (GTY) on a 10-day Eastern Caribbean leaving Baltimore 3/3/15 and was just assigned my cabin #. Not sure what the methodology is but I've experienced both quick and last minute room assignment.
