  1. Isn't it odd Phil - we truly never felt anything in our cabin - apart from the usual creaks if it was a bit lumpy! We were on MDR on lower level - port side in the middle and again nothing at all.

I had gone expecting all sorts of mishaps from rolling etc to getting a cough from the air conditioning but thankfully all was well.

I hope you enjoyed the cruise.

Hi heywood, a few people by our table commented on the vibration, it was not the sort of vibration that had your seat bouncing over the floor, but it was noticeable. I also spoke to quite a few people who had developed a sore throat, and a couple with a cough, who put it down to the air conditioning, personally I wasn't affected by it. My only other experience of cruising was on the Queen Victoria last year, I have to admit the Arcadia did have a more noticeable roll in similar conditions than the QV, although again, that did not bother me. Although if pushed to make a comparison with the QV, I would much prefer the QV as I thought it had a far greater WOW factor, but having said that, there is nothing really that I could fault on the Arcadia, in her own way she is a fine ship and I would happily sail on her again. These of course are my own opinions, and I realise each will have different views, but I can only describe as I found it. Phil

  2. Hi, we were also on this cruise J215, we were in cabin C101 midships on deck 6, we had a noise when she rolled (most of the time!) that just sounded like a coat hanger hitting the side of a wardrobe, I am certain that this was not the cause as we removed them all to eliminate it, it seemed to come from behind the bulkhead or deckhead at the foot of the bed, we never did get to the bottom of it. Phil

p.s. We were seated in the upper Meridian MDR, deck 3 on the port side, there was a lot of vibration every time she rolled to port and the propeller dug deep in the water, it seemed as though the bearings rumbled when under load.

  3. Hi, can anyone let me know if it is possible to get something to eat at all times in the Buffet on Arcadia, I like a nibble (of food) on my way back to the cabin in the evening after a swift half of shandy? ;) Phil

  4. Barry, I wouldn't worry about "jokes" about Australians, on Merseyside we are the first to poke fun at ourselves, but no one takes it to heart, or very seriously.

    Phil

i.e. Did you hear about the two friends who got married on the same day, the first ones tells his wife he expects her to cook and clean. When he comes home the house is spotless and his meal is on the table.

The second one marries a Liverpool girl and tells her the same thing, on the first day he doesn't see anything, on the second day he doesn't see anything, but by the third day the swelling has gone down and he can see just enough out his left eye to make himself a sandwich and load the dishwasher.

  5. Hi, I think you kind of missed the point, our complaint is not about being charged for excess weight, we offered to pay whatever the excess charge would be, to increase our allowance! Our gripe was the number of formal/informal nights on a 14 night Caribbean cruise, with only a 20kg allowance was unreasonable, especially as we have upgraded our seats to premium. Having been before, we know it's difficult to squeeze it all in!

There is an easy way round this problem, "formal nights" wear a dark suit and tie, "semi formal" go for dark suit no tie, "casual" wear suit trousers and shirt, no problem, fill the rest of case with partners clothes!;)

  6. That is the best suggestion so far and is exactly what we did some years ago when touring Germany using public transport. It was actually quite cathartic to take off one's socks and put them straight in the bin.

    Shiny

I do hope the same didn't apply to your undergarments!

  7. That idea has some merit. Unless you live totally isolated there will be a market near you where you can purchase multi packs of socks (and pants). These may contain 5 or even 7 pairs of socks for less than the cost of having two pairs laundered on board. Of course they will not be the silk and cashmere mix to which one is accustomed but as the man said,'Twill suffice'.

Also if one does not mind rustling as one walks there is always the option of paper pants. A little thought and there are many stratagems one can adopt to keep one from the horrors of the laundry room. And if my personal observations from my last few trips are any criterion the daytime dress and general turnout of the passengers reveals that a great many of them have but a fleeting relationship with either washer or iron and in some cases shampoo and even deodorant. So if you are a little crumpled about the edges take heart, you will not stand out.

My Dear Shiny, I am afraid that I, even without clothes am "a bit crumpled about the edges". I have tried ironing myself, and even some starch, but gravity still takes over as soon as I stand up.:D:D:D

  8. Philayl - Always the possibility the person who does not respond is hard of hearing, is feeling queasy, or just has too much on his mind to notice a greeting. 95% of anything says it all in most studies and it seems to me you hit the jackpot in responses while on the QV. Jack Morris

My son is deaf but he still recognises a smile! But I must stress I don't worry about no responses, I just carry on. I remember saying Good Evening to a woman in the lift one day, whereupon she launched into a tirade of doom and gloom, and the only way things could possibly get worse is if the ship sank, which was just about the time I wished it would.

  9. When my wife and I were on QV in July I smiled and said good morning/afternoon/evening to everyone I passed or encountered at dinner, in bars, shops, etc; I got the same response back from 95% of the people I met, the ones that ignored me or just snorted or whatever I just ignored. I have found, not just on cruises, that you have to reach out to other people, some are shy and find it difficult to talk to others, so give them the opportunity by speaking first, works for me anyway. ;)

  10. Just a quick note because we just got back from sailing on QV in 8067, right next door to your 8065 coming up. Yes, you'll hear some deck noise above from Winter Garden chairs and even footsteps in hard-heeled shoes. Oddly, also smelled a lot of food odors coming, I guess, from Lido next to Winter Garden. Awakened out of sound sleep the first night at 3:30 am of overwhelming smell of garlic! Hard to get rid of!

Hi, we were in 8065 in July a few weeks back, I agree that there was some noise of chairs being moved above, but in my opinion it was not excessive and didn't spoil the experience in any way. There was definately no smell of food at all, at any time of the day or night.;)
