  1. Sadly, it's a thing!

Maybe not on all sailings, but on ours in July to the Greek Isles.

Some days were worse than others. We were walking most mornings and saw residue every day. Not only on our balcony but on the rear of the ship as well.

Never leave your clothes out there to dry without checking first and leaving a towel in between air and lounger.

It seemed worse overnight/early morning ?

We worked around it by going to the upper levels and/or by standing only on our balcony. Thankfully it was a 4 of 7 day excursion week for us so it was less impactful.

    Still sad though.

  2. We booked a santorini excursion mainly to get us off the ship quick and easy. Our Port time is 1-10 but our excursion start time is 230. Does that sound right?

Might we be better served to cancel and take our chances for an earlier tender and then do our own thing with water taxis and taxis?

At the airport now and cruise leaves Sunday. Thank you.

  3. We will be there middle of July on RC. I've booked the 4 hour Perivolos Beach Excursion mostly to get the tender off the ship and get moving...Once in Perivolos for a bit I'm thinking we may do alternate plans as to those of the ship's excursion tour. Grab a taxi to other areas... I think we should be fine as long as we arrive back at the ship on time

** Question; my excursion indicates we start at 230 but ship has 1-10 in port? Do ALL booked ship excursions get priority tenders? or will we be delayed ?

How likely am I to follow the tout/timing in my head? Lots of waiting time?

    Pat

  4. We are booked on JOTS Greek Isles cruise for July. I've read so many articles/posts regarding tendering in Santorini. Not many were positive.

To ensure getting off the boat quickly and maximizing the time we have there, we are thinking of booking the excursion to Perivolos. It's a 4 hour excursion with 2.5 hours spent at the beach. Transfer back to Fira with a walk past the church and then to the cable car (ticket included in excursion price).

Is it possible for us to go off on our own once we leave the beach. Take a bus up to Oia, or a water taxi (if that's possible). Hang around there then make our own way to Fira and back to the boat?

Many thanks for any help you can provide.

  5. Thanks for the suggestions! This is why I love CC and TripAdvisor. :) What did we do before these sites and the net?

Question- Is the morning before we embark enough time to enjoy Stanley Park? The ship leaves at 4pm - so we probably need to be boarding around 2pm. Our hotel is at the cruise dock.

There's as much to do in Stanley Park as you have time for. We spent most of the day. 9 to 4 I think.

The Trip Advisor site was of great value for our Vancouver choices. We chose most of our destinations in Vancouver/Seattle/Portland from there with NO regrets.

Stanley Park has a website as well. You can walk it, bike it, bus it....or combo

  6. What is VIJ's and where is it? :)

It's an Indian restaurant on W. 11th St. Checked TripAdvisor just now and its #3 favorite in Vancouver. 18 months ago it was #1 and deservedly so. We took a bus from the Granville Market area. I think the #10, but not sure. My husband's the transportion guy. My job's picking the places we eat. This one was a winner. Although I love all kinds of spicy and different foods, had never had Indian, so wanted to give it a try. Now I don't want to go to any other Indian restaurant for fear I'll be disappointed.

Can't speak to the AK destinations since we will be going on our first Alaskan Cruise in August, but your Seattle/Vancouver choices are great.

We did a tour of the market w/Seattle Bites, led by Jan, 1 1/2 years ago. It was excellent. If you like chowder, you MUST go to Duke's on Lake Union! Also visited a great jazz bar downtown, Pioneer Square, can't remember their name though.

Stanley Park was great, great, great.....As was Granville Market, and ALL the brewtubs scattered among Yale Town, GasTown, Stanley Park.

If you like Indian, VIJ's is the place to go. Can't wait to go back before or after our cruise. Traveling around the city was easy on light rail and buses. AND I got all of these great tips from Trip Advisor, where everyone was so giving with information.

Hope you have a great trip!
