We are jumping ship in Warnermunde, have rented a car, and driving to Schwerin via autobahn, then after seeing the castle, heading back towards coast via Wismar.

Would Ludwigslust be too far out of the way from Schwerin? It was on our list to go their first then make our way west towards Schwerin.

I've read that the Schwerin castle really doesn't have much inside, a wee bit is restored, but the beauty is the outside?? Any thoughts?

rostocker.....Is Rostock in the area from which Catherine the Great came? Thank You for so much information.:)

Stettin was a German town, but now in Poland. A bit east of Rostock:)

Very true about Minnesota.:) Finns & Swedes & Hockey Players:) And the snow........ duh, we shovel it, roll in it, throw it, melt it, ride on it, ski thru it, and most of all......... curse it:) All tho this winter????? What happened to it?????

Do you know off hand if there is a tram service from Hernesaari port that goes to Market Square area? We are looking at purchasing a Helsinki Card and rather than paying the 12E to have mailed to the house, we would pick up at Helsinki Expert office (near Market Square??)

We're going to take ferry to Suomenlinna too and hoping for a little visit to Stockmanns:)

As to Canada..... huge. You could take a train across, but much faster if you fly. Save your Euros and break the cross country tour into segments. From coast to coast it is spectacular. ( must see ... Niagara Falls, Vancouver, The Rockies, Banff, the east coast will probably be much like Finland??, but it is spectacular too)

If your ship is berthed at West Harbour Melki Quay, can you suggest 1).how we get into town, and to the Rock Church 2).ideas of what to do that day (Only in port from 08-1700) 3).family beach and how to get to it. 4). Estimated taxi charges into town from port. 5). something unique to buy to remember my time in Helsinki :)

I am a bit confused re Warnermunde' port vs Rostock, but have checked port site, and our ship berths at P7.

I think we are going to rent a car and head out to Schwerin via Rostock and then loop back the scenic way by the coast.

My questions:

-is there a better web site for the Stasis Prison in Rostock? I'm trying to find which days they have an English speaking tour. Are there 2 prisons or am I confused with the vs the old?

-how is parking near the Marienkirsche in Rostock? (want to time it correctly for the hour mark :)

-We berth on a Sunday, and I've read that shops in Rostock will be closed. Do you think that will be the same for Schwerin?
